  • Joyce is so sassy and Juan-Diego is so adorable, they're absolutely charming!

  • 2:42; that was a straight up lyric coloratura noise. Joyce is really like a soprano, except creamier and richer. such a lovely voice to relax to =)

  • @raigekimaru That part always cracks me up. I think JDF just hit the right place, if you know what I mean ;)

  • I should have edited the previous comment. I feel ashamed of my poor display of writing, but I hope everyone gets what I am trying to convey about this song and these singers. I have the feeling that the grooves in my brain are getting wired anew.

  • I have watched this video and Teresa Berganza almost continually since I first became aware of this opera and this song. I love the echo of 18th century Italian love songs at the beginning of the aria. But at the end Rossini discards these slow songs of an earlier century and this beautiful area reaches for the sublime. I heard echoes of this glory last week when I first heard a 17 year old girl sing this. DiDonato and Berganza truly brought out its glory of this song. Brilliant!!!

  • Bella Voce. Fabulous passage work! Wonderful in everyway!

  • How could Bartolo fall asleep with this singing?

  • @olympicfreak678

actually, he fell asleep because it was beautiful singing. a beautiful female voice is one of the most soothing sounds in the world and would put many people asleep. if someone fell asleep while I was singing, I would take it as a compliment

  • i find that Florez is singing in a lower transponed version here, compared with his 97 performance with Grubeorva. Why'd be that?

  • maybe this is period instrumentation, so that the whole orchestra and singers are singing a bit lower ;-)

  • This is the original version, which calls for a mezzo/contralto rosina. When Rosina is sung by a soprano (i.e., Gruberova) a number of arias are transposed up into high keys, uncluding this one, this is in D originally, as sing here, sopranos usually transpose it up a third in F. Florez is only singing lower because its in a lwoer key for Joyce, and the other version is only higher because its higher for gruberova

  • I saw this video for the first time, and it's wonderful. She has a very beauty voice and is so natural charming. The acting with Florez is so amazing, especially the comic of Florez is so great...

  • She is like a hybrid between Susan Graham and Cecilia Bartoli, a perfect velvety voice with brilliant coloratura. Her Handel is just as great as her Rossini. I just can't get enough of her...

  • Great! I have heard recordings where she is even more amazing, actually in the league of the best coloratura mezzos of all recorded times!

Her style, technique and musicianship are all superb. And she has a voice that one can recognize after 3 seconds! I hope she keeps improving and making great surprises to us.

  • Gorgeous singing, this is in the Horne tradition if you ask me. Love it.

  • do you have lawrence brownlee's production, and if you do can you post it.

  • I saw his debut at the Met with her. They made an announcement at the start of the show that she was not in good voice. I swear it was the most amazing production I have ever seen. I prefer a soprano Rosina when they are not showing off....at least I use to until DiDonato. Brownlee was AMAZING. I swear that guy hit soprano notes during this scene. They were so great together. The coloratura was impeccable and on point. I saw Damarau as well. DiDonato made me see why Rossini wanted a mezzo.

  • I love when The Count gives her a squeeze and she shrieks!

  • This production by Bartlett Sher was so fantastic that I saw it twice and if they had shown it in the theater a 3rd time, I would have gone back again. Her Una Voce Poca Fa was sensational.

  • I saw it twice in the theater too! Then I taped it when it was on PBS and watched it a few more times! Wish I knew someone who TIVOed it and could make a DVD.

  • Beautiful voice and beautifully sang!

  • Simply WOW!!! What a great voice.

  • Watch out Cecilia!! Here comes Joyce!!!

  • two different singers, don't say that.

  • You can love them both. I do!!!!

  • As well as I do!
