So its a weight thing why Ive got to fly from OGG to HNL on a 717 to catch a 777 to ORD? Yet I fly from ORD into OGG on a 777?

@dwags59 I dont understand why you would do that and not take the 777 from OGG-KOA-ORD...(It has to go to KOA because the runway isnt long enough to go OGG-ORD nonstop)

I guess the 777 can land @ ogg but it makes a short hop to koa to get passangers and fuel. You can check my flight from ord to ogg its United Flight 3. Its kinda crazy that they do it that way but i stay in maui so its e-z to get to maui and a all nite flight home on UAL 2 we get to ord at like 5:15 and catch a CRJ to northern Michigan TVC at 10am. I just wish united would update the 1st class cabin so we can sleep better!!!!

UAL 777s out of OGG fly to the west coast. To go to ORD they make a stop in KOA and are then able to load up and continue onto ORD.

Sorta..... its also to make it worth while. ORD-OGG-ORD and ORD-KOA-ORD would not have good load factors but combine the 2 are you get 90%+ load factors.

777 can take off and land in OGG its just that doesint united usele use 767 or 757 on that route

I thougt the 767 was the biggest passenger plane that land/take off from maui.

I live here (on maui) and I've never seen a 777 at the airport.....I fly a lot

Took the UA 777 non-stop from ORD-OGG in March, 2006. They definitely fly 777s to and from Maui.

I was on an American Airlines 777-223ER plane from DFW-OGG when our 767-323ER plane was grounded. We landed with a full load. Kahului Airport can even fit a 747-400ER plane too.

UA does operate 777s to Maui, but it can only take off with minimum fuel. That's why it stops in Kona to fuel up and fly back to the Midwest.

The 777 is the safest plane to fly on overwater, it has an excellent safety record and united being the largest 777 operator in the US i believe the fleet # is 53 777's

last year i flew to san Francisco from maui the flight only took 4 hours and 10 minutes, we had a huge tailwind, most times it's less then 5 hours.

Kahului can stand the weight up to dc10s. But on my 29 min. inter island trip to maui,i saw nothing like a b777

Maui's runway is very short and yes I was surprised a triple seven could do that I would have thought the biggest thing you could fly into Maui would be a 757 but I was wrong.

i lived in maui for 5 years and the 777 flew into kahului from sfo and seattle daliy with united airlines.
