Was going to buy a Blue Mikey, but looks like this won't work with iPhone 4/4S...
Will take a look at the GuitarJack2 instead
My FiRe2.1.0 currently has a mono interface (level meter & gain control) when using the iPhone4s built-in mic - I'm guessing that this automatically turns into a stereo interface when a suitable stereo mic is connected via the dock?
Many thanks for your really helpful & well-researched series of videos - great work!
I've recently bought an iPhone 4S and am running FiRe 2.1.0 which is a fantastic Field Recorder app.
I've seen conflicting reports about whether the 4S can be made to work with stereo mic input; either using the iDock connector or via the plug-in headphones/mic jack.
Is stereo recording possible with my set-up, and if so, what is the best way to do this?
@P0STALBL0WFISH - The only way to get stereo audio into either a 4 or 4S is to use a Dock connection. There are currently a few ways to do this: the GuitarJack model 2, the AR-4i, and the iM2. I outline all the possibilities on my website, which is linked in the description (search for it on my website's search box).
@pureprecisionchiro - If you plug in a different microphone (one that's not the actual white headset), you need an adapter - see the website in the description, under 'Articles' for more info.
Thank you :) same prob here, audio, just getting into this stuff with the iphone and your info is a great help.. never even thought about an external mic untill I got home and couldn't hear what I had recoreded :) Thanks
Many thanks for your expert advice.
Will subscribe to your videos & look forward to seeing your reviews of other 4s recording products & options in future.
Best wishes

@P0STALBL0WFISH - Yes - it automatically switches to stereo (two channel) if a stereo sound source is being used.

I plug in my mic and it doesn't record. Are you sure there isn't a special adapter needed?

@RhinestoneRhino - Make sure you have the jack plugged in all the way - if not, the mic won't work.
