  • the great thing about this goal too was that some reporter had challenged him to score off a faceoff and said that he couldn't do it. 66000$ later said the reporter.

  • 10 people are capitals fans

  • I am a gretz fan but darn I have to admit Lemieux at his best is better than all the rest.

  • na, Shaun Avery #1

  • @kelln12 Trolling just like Avery

  • Everybody's so hung up on who's the best at what. Why don't you just appreciate them all and enjoy some fucking hockey?

  • @monstergummybears thats not a good word to describe his playing style at all. you must 17.

  • @monstergummybears Why? :S

  • Lets all make sure when we say "best player ever" we add 'in the NHL in modern times'. There are so many players with skill exceeding that of Gretzky and Lemieux that either played a long time ago or never played in the NHL.

  • @kpwillson Uh, no. Gretzky was literally the best player to play the game.

  • @xxCancerBats Give Maurice Richard a curved stick, an 82 game season, and modern rules and I beg to differ... He was the best offensive player ever.

  • @kpwillson Richard was an incredible player, especially considering his time. But he never won an Art Ross. Geoffrion and Blake, his own teammates, bettered his scoring. Why don't you consider them the best offensive players ever?

Lemieux is still without a doubt the most talented player of all time. Gretzky is still without a doubt the greatest player of all time.

  • @xxCancerBats also Valery Kharlamov and other great soviets rival Gretzky and Lemieux but never get the publicity because of the Iron Curtain.

  • @kpwillson Right, because no one will ever hold a candle to those old timers? I don't dispute that there have been players(a few) on the same level as Gretzky and Lemieux (i.e. Orr, Richard etc). But saying that "so many players with skill exceeding Gretzky and Lemieux " is absolutely ridiculous and is supported not by facts, but only your own so-called expert opinion.

  • @kpwillson i think when we say the 'best ever' we really mean statistically.

  • We'll never see another one like big Mario.

  • @SwimmaLbC just STFU

  • @SwimmaLbC Lemieux has played with Crosby but not Malkin, Malkin joined the pens a year later.

  • @phillydip999 Lemieux played with Crosby for like 20 games before he HAD to retire from heart problems.

  • lemieux is better than gretzky he retired because of injuries if he kept on playing he wouldve beaten his records

  • @Jas12900 not even close.... but ok

  • @xolilcreight dude get the fuck out of here i know way more about hockey than you lemieux is better than gretzky yea gretzky had more games but way games and the stuff lemieux did way more exciting than gretzky hes better shut the fuck up you queer

  • @fuster07 Lemieux was bigger and stronger then Gretzky that's for sure. He was faster, had a better shot.. but I think what's fascinating about Gretzky is that he was just a smart player. Always in the right place at the right time. He wasn't particularly gifted at any one skill. Was he the best, personally I'd go with Bobby Orr for that, but I'd wager that Gretzky was the smartest player to play the game and he should be remembered for that.

  • @JoJaDaRu I've seen Gretzky skate and I can say that Wayne was faster. IMO

  • @clearsh0t I watched both in my time but don't trust me. Here's some Gretzky quotes for you. "I wasn't naturally gifted in terms of size and speed; everything I did in hockey I worked for, and that's the way I'll be as a coach." and this great one too "I skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been. ". There have been some really interesting scientific studies done on his brain and why, despite lack of physical prowess, he was still so good. Lemieux was a monster physically.

  • @JoJaDaRu maybe but if lemieux would have played as much as gretsky he would have killed his stats and as much as he did while he was here greatest of all time

  • @fuster07 "Killed" might be an exaggeration. He probably would have beat Greztky's records for goals and points the year he went out originally. We'll never know now so it's all speculation but I doubt he would have ever beat Gretzky's assist record, and neither ever came close to Orr's +/- record. Lemieux was less a playmaker then Gretzky and more a goal scorer. Both were great players obviously. Orr is still my man though.

  • @JoJaDaRu orr is good better than gretsky or whatever but i just like lemieux style how good and big and powerfull he was i think hes the best of all time

  • @fuster07 Not to mention tht Gretzky entered the league on a team full of talent....Mario got to be drafted by the Penguins, who had zero talent and were about to go bankrupt. The. Best. Ever.

  • i cant even do that in nhl 11

  • @tracylover102 haha right its hard

  • @DiscoRByrno

Watch the worst accidents videos on YouTube, then think what it would feel like if somebody does that to you INTENTIONALLY, then think if changing the rules is pussy-like.

I'm taking a wild guess you don't play hockey, right?

  • @x30xSabresFan Teemu Selane has held the most goals as a rookie for a long time now. Got it with the Jets. It's something crazy like 78 goals or something. More about Gretzky though. Apparently this kid was on the same flight as Gretzky and wanted an autograph. The guy's such a dick he wanted to charge the kid money for an autograph. Mario accomplished all he did through a lot of injury, and was more classy than the great one will ever be.

  • @MrMoldyPickles Apparently, Apparently.

Nice story. Makes a lot of sense too, doesn't it? Especially how hard up Gretsky is for money...

I tell you what, if you want to spread an unsubstantiated malicious rumor, why not claim Gretsky punched the kid out?

    Pinhead.

  • @yoursuchagoodguy Gretzky even turned his back on a few natives in Canada....natives apparently said Gretzky was racist towards natives

  • @JSPUFC who cares about natives anyways???? look at natives in montreal they only look like fucking hippies trying to sale cartoons of cigarette for a living building bridges that colapse because they have no education

  • @hayabusafmw Moron

  • fail for the Sabres

  • THE BEST PLAYER EVER!

  • mario lepewwwwwwwwwww

  • love the 66 likes on the lemieux better than gretzky comment

  • @junklock your an idiot

  • @monstergummybears but what about orr or lemieux i say orr

  • because he's that freakin AMAZING!

  • @monstergummybears you my friend are right

  • A.OATES did that in the playoffs against the sabres in OT to win it. Wish I could find a clip of it somewhere.

  • No one thumbs up the thumbs up for Lemieux. It has 66 thumbs up that is just too weird.

  • @monstergummybears I was 'like' number 66 :D

  • No he was not. Look at his stats and Stanley Cups. Not only was he not better than Gretz but the Penguins weren't half as good as the Oilers in the 1980s.

  • @acesobrian true stats but pens are a force to be reckoned with

  • The Oilers were an awesome team which is why Gretzky is isn't as good as Mario. Mario had less to work with over the years but still achieved great stats in spite of it. Gretzky had it pretty good most of his career when it came to player support, and his stats are inflated as a result.

  • @slygun45 Gretky had over 26% of the Oilers goals! When got traded to the Kings, He carried the team to greatness to the Playoffs! He had a 200 point season! he had atleast 15 100 point seasons! Even if you had the best team you couldn't get numbers like that! He even got the most goals as a rookie! Now tell me, what did Mario get? not as much as The Great One.

  • I can settle all your differences..... Crosby is the best :D

  • @MITCHRENO your mom is overated

  • Gretzky was Number 1 ...

Lemieux was the BEST .... EVER.

  • @KriegKoenigWig no

    gretzky is number 99

    lemieux is 100

  • a friend said if Lemieux could score off the faceoff he'd donate a bunch of money to Lemieux's charity, so he tried it lol

  • Gretzky will always be better. Lemieux is second. But that goal was none-the-less AMAZING!!! :D

  • @Kgrl93 lemiuex = #1

  • Lemieux isnt better in skills then Gretzky. They are quite equals at that point.

BUT. Lemieux is more of a complete player:

    -He's big (Bigger then gretzky)

    -He's got skills (Equals)

-He can defend himself (Better then Gretzky)

-He skates fast (Kinda equals, but still fast)

-He would probably do more goals then gretzky in the game of today.

At that result, you ad that Lemieux played against better goalies and defenseman then Gretzky.

    Gretzky WAS great, Lemieux eather.

  • @chuckrock5 i agree

  • @chuckrock5 That is the dumbest argument i have ever read in my entire life. if the word probably is in your argument you know nothing. Dont even try and say "if they played against todays players it would be different" because thats not possible and is completely irrelevant. your a moron dont try and debate that he is better when you put up stats that say, "he skates fast(kinda equals, but still fast)" that is so dumb

  • @xolilcreight actually..... Lemieux DID play against todays players... he skated ON a line WITH crosby and malkin and wasnt very successful ... SO ...

  • @SwimmaLbC im pretty sure malkin didnt skate with him

  • Looks up at Mark Madden. Haha

  • He was aimed the whole time, waiting for the puck!

  • from wikipedia:

"on December 23, 2002, during his afternoon radio show in Pittsburgh, host Mark Madden said he would donate $6,600 to the Mario Lemieux Foundation if the hockey great ever scored off a faceoff. That very night, the Penguins played the Buffalo Sabres in Pittsburgh and Lemieux, who was aware of the challenge, made good on it when he scored the game-winning goal right off a faceoff during the third period"

  • wayyy betterrr than greztkyyy

  • Mike Richter always said the shooter he most feared was Mario through his career.

  • super Mario Lemieux

  • what year was this and against who?

  • John Bucyk did the same thing w/ the Bruins. I'm guessing....1971/1972

  • The most talented hockey player ever to play the game...a real magician with such graceful moves on ice...Thanks for evrything Mario....How can I forget the greatest play ever during 1987 Canada cup final game...You and Wayne...the best duo of all time!!

  • If he wouldnt have got sick he would have broken all records thats why hes the greatest of all time

  • @fuster07 you mean thats why Gretzky's the greatest of all time

  • @tjackson76 umm no bure is even better than gretsky another who got his carreer ended early but mario lemiux was the greatest ever 5 goals every differnt way in one game come on now

  • @fuster07 geez, what a joke you are. you don't even know hockey if you can't spell GRETZKY. And Bure isn't even in the top 10. Maybe you should read "the hockey news top 100 players" see, even the greatest hockey minds in the world pick Gretzky #1. Mario is # 4. Maybe if he played a full uninjured carrer he'd be #1 (like i said)

  • @tjackson76 haha because he is overated he had alot of goals thats it never had some of the accomplishments lemiux had even with his discease and no you didnt say lemiux would be the best if he didnt have to end his career wich he already is the best you said you mean gretsky is the greatest you dont know anything budy i have a subscription to hockey magazine by the way i all i watch is nhl on the fly you dont know hockey

  • @fuster07 I don't know hockey?????? lol. watch my videos, they're all from my personal collection of hundreds and hundreds of games I've taped off tv since the 80s. So I Know every thing i need to know about hockey. Gretzky is the greatest. How can he be overrated if you hold practically every offencive record? You even thinking Bure is better then Gretzky proves you don't know hockey or you're just jealous of him.

  • @tjackson76 If Lemieux wouldnt have gotten injured he would have crushed Gretzkys records

  • @fuster07 and that is why Gretzky is the greatest. (like I first said.........)

  • @fuster07 and gretzky was never injured ? if you put in the minutes per game and tenure he did i'm sure he was banged up and had aches and pains all the time. in fact, they all do.

  • @znogypogy i understand that but he had a career ending disease it;s quite different

  • @znogypogy Actually I did the math a long time ago and Lemuiex and Gretzky's Point Per Game averages are nearly identical. If Lemuiex had played as many games as Gretzky he most likely would hve broke 2000 points as well. Though in the end Gretzky would still have more points. But his numbers were also inflated from playing on one of the most talented teams in NHL history.

  • @nyrplayer Don't forget how bad the Campbell Conference was, during that time period. Just look at the majority of starting goalies, from the west, back then. Won't find anyone under 3GA, pretty much. Heck, Edmonton's goalies didn't have GAA, usually, under 3.50. Edmonton was stacked with talent, but defenses/goales were swiss cheese, back in those days. At least Mario had to play against some goalies (Roy for one) with lower GAA and some stronger D, in the Prince of Wales Conference.

  • @fuster07 you cant argue that you fucking idiot, because he DID get injured i hate when stupid fucking people like you try to argue with that point.

  • @fuster07 you are a fucking idiot please shut the fuck up

  • @tjackson76 But he is not the greatest Lemieux is

  • @fuster07 lol...we could go on and on forever.... if Lemieux was healthy his whole career, he could have possibly broke some of his records. but Gretzky played injured a lot near the end of his career so he could have even got more points and broke more of his records. and What about Mike Bossy? he has a better goals per game avg. then Lemieux and Gretzky. If he played a full healthy career would he have more goals then both?......The question is "What if?" and Gretzky can answer with 2857pts

  • @tjackson76 wasn't nearly as sick as lemieux was lemieux had no choice but to retire yea Gretsky is good and bossy but there injuries werent as severe as Lemieuxs i still the Lemieux is the greatest not only on ice but off saving the pens from moving from Pittsburgh fighting his discease he is the greatest in hockey history im sorry

  • i do this every faceoff down low gets them everytime!!!

  • i was at that game, about 12 years old. my next game, i did the same thing....even tho i tired it the whole game, i did achieve my goal!

  • December 23, 2002

  • And this happened again!

  • @xxxJCenaKellyKellyxx who cares

  • It's "Biron" not Toronto, I had to listen to it again too

  • @McVittie9 Funny thing is that it's actually Mika Noronen in goal, not Martin Biron.

  • @jackbruce youre right

  • i love how the crowd doesnt even know until a couple seconds later hahaha.

  • I think nobody could or would ever be able to do things like this guy

  • haha it was against Toronto, surprised he didn't score off faceoff from his own end

  • @humparepatta Thats Buffalo...o_o

  • @humparepatta That's not Toronto, though you're probably right about the possibility, lol.

  • Lemieux will always be the best in Pittsburgh. Fuck Crosby. People cannot compare the two.

  • @WuTangShogun36

i agree that lemieux is the best but what is wrong with u?

sid is the best player in the NHL right now

  • @hockeyfightusa Sid is top 3. Him and Ovechkin are incomparable. Because I believe without Crosby in Pitt, the penguins still have a pretty good team, Without Ovi in DC, the Caps are shit. Penguins could still win their division without him. I'm a Ranger fan and I still think that.

  • @WuTangShogun36

i think the opposite is true.

the caps are in a worse division first ofall.

secondly- malkin and fleury are not as good as people think- if u watch the pens from game to game you will see that they are both very inconsistent.

i have watched a decent amount of caps games and alex semin is unbelievably good (often better than malkin).

  • @WuTangShogun36 I disagree without Ovie the caps are still pretty good they green semin and backstrom but if i had a choice to pick the most talented team right now it would be the flyers

  • Green can't play defense, Semin and Backstrom choke.

  • @rwagsjr 10 game winning streak?? C'mon Pens

  • Only the Magnificent one does things like that.

  • lemieux was better than greztky

  • @yungjibbs9 wrong

  • @yungjibbs9 although it was very close, wayne Gretzky averaged .04 more point per game than mario, AKA he would have had less points if he played the same amount of games than wayne

  • @yungjibbs9 and he played with 66 in honor of greztky! :)

  • @bobwasherenotthere No he didn't his agent suggested since everyone was calling him the next Gretzky why don't you take 99 and turn it upside down 66.If Lemieux would of wore the hockey player's number he admired most it would of been #10 for Guy Lafluer.

  • @bobwasherenotthere No he didn't,Lemiuex's agent suggested he take 99 and turn it upside down since everyone kept calling him the next Gretzky.Lemieux starting becoming friends with Gretzky after the 1987 Canada Cup.If Lemieux wore the number of player he admired it would of been #10 for Guy Lafluer.

  • @yungjibbs9 I THINK THey are both the same!

  • @yungjibbs9 you know nothing about hockey you fucking idiot he is not better than gretzky

  • @yungjibbs9 Dont play that stupid cancer card either because he MIGHT of broke a few of his records if he was never injured but he DIDN'T. It can be argued who is better but stats cant, Wayne Gretzky eclipsed the 200 point mark in 4 seasons, Mario never did it once. Thats only 1 stat theres plenty more to prove why he is better

  • Lemieux Is God, simple fact

  • FUCK YOU YOUTUBE! thats bullshit to have ads that just talk like this stupid ass alaska airlines ad that annoys the fuck outta me, but tight vid i watch several times

  • gretskys number 1, lemieux is 2 IMO.

But the whole debale about who they played with etc.. I`d have to lemieux made Jagr as great as he became and the same goes for Gretzky and who he played with, they were both simply very special hockey players.

The`re have of course been other greats too but greatness is relative to time it appears, so it`s almost impossible to compare Gretzky to Howe or Roy to Brodeur or Bobby Orr to Nick Lidstrom. and so on.

  • The best ever? I'm sorry but no one is even close to Bobby Orr...

  • Lemieux and Gretzky each had a European side kick. I don't think you can compare them, put them on any team and they will make a difference.

  • PITTSBURGH IS AWESOME

  • when was this?

  • Lemieux is the most incredible athlete of all time. Two back surgeries, two bouts with cancer, countless broken bones and nagging injuries, and he still bested Gretzky for a number of years. No one has ever had as many obstacles and overcome them in any sport. Even Lance Armstrong "only" came back from cancer once. This guy is the GOAT in my book.

  • Should have done this on every offensive faceoff.

  • How is that possible?

  • @Losrandiro a coyotes player did that once too, THIS years NHL playoffs.

    vernon fiddler. search it up.

    just great timing.

  • @Losrandiro

    called goalie was sleeping :)

  • Noronen imuroi :)

  • ....additionally, he's a hell of a guy off the air.

  • Madden knows what buttons to push and I'm of the opinion that half the people who hate him he made fools of on a phone call, one quarter don't like him because he's fat, one eighth because they're too stupid to understand that what he does is entertainment to generate maximum income and the last eighth just don't like him. Logical fallacy, all of it I know, but he's been on top a long time. Haters sure do seem to tune in a lot...and it's all the same to him. They're listening.

  • All you people who hate Mark Madden don't realize that his attitude is all an act for his radio show. He's not like that in real life. It's an act to get people listening and it certainly has and will continue to garner listeners.

  • Love the point to Mark Madden in the press box. Never bet against Mario!!!

  • Adam Oates did this exact same play in the playoffs against the Sabres in OT in the early 90's.

  • /jeff carter of the flyers did this recently...

  • @gpappas69 How could you even try to compare jeff carter to mario leieux!?

  • i never saw gretz do that now did i?

  • Of course I do not have a video link to back it up but Gretzky did do this a few times. Gary Unger did it once in a game when he played for the Oilers and 99 asked how he did that. Next game he banged in a couple of off the face off. Still it is something special to do so don't think I am knocking Mario here.

  • @MrCynic1 well if he did thats fucking awesome too

  • I remember this game! Thanks!

  • LEmieux is Canadian :D

  • Yeah,Mario is the Wizard of the hockey, and the Penguins.Greatest Player of the World.

  • dude u were there

  • and thats when he was old. mario lemieux is truly amazing.

  • I've scored twice off a face off. Then again, I play house league ^.^

  • Mario is the best ever. Hands down.

  • @pbmoore2 i would definately agree that MARIO is the greatest offensive player ever. you are too young to remember Bobbie Orr. he is without a doubt the greatest all around player ever. incredible defense man, very fast, great passer, led the league in scoring 2 times and a tough guy. took on all comers. Mario and Bobbie on the same team would win a lot of cups.......

  • @jackslicl100 they played if way different era's of hockey. I'm not trying to discredit Orr by any means, but back then the goalies had thinner pads and it wasn't as much as a physical game it escalated to being ten years late in Mario's era.

  • @jackslicl100 If Mario isn't the greatest offensive player of all, he atleast is the most talented of all. Gretzky probably is the best offensive player and Bobby Orr is no doubt the best all around.

  • @pbmoore2 mario <<<<<<<wayne

  • @Slipknot5301 Or not.

  • @konank666 not saying mario wasn't amazing but wayne is still better

  • @Slipknot5301 nah... nice try though kid

  • @TheoBrixtonTheKid while it's clear slipknot5301 is a troll his point still stands, the records speak for themselves. wayne gretzky was the greatest hockey player who ever lived.

  • @forbesfoofighters Gretzky said of Mario that he was the most talented player he had ever seen and that had he been healthy he would have broken all of his records.

  • @bbmtge the facts stand. i realize lemieux was the most talented player the sport has ever seen but it didn't happen for him. personally i still don't think he would have topped gretzky's records but it definitely would have been close.

  • @forbesfoofighters My comment is based on what Gretzky, himself, said. I am not knocking Gretzky by any styretch. But, the Oilers won a Cup without him .That's howdeep they were. Lemieux WAS the Penguins. None of the other Penguins were much without Mario. Yes...even Jagr.

  • @bbmtge

The Penguins won the cup without Mario, Jagr won five scoring titles without Mario.

  • @TheGreatOneNo99 Tell me that you are not referring to 2008-2009 Pittsburgh Penguins. If you are, you are no more than a total asshole. The Oilers won a Cup with the same team structure after Gretzky left and while Gretzky was still playing. Cant wait for this reply.

  • @bbmtge

That's what I said, the Penguins won a cup without Mario, that's a fact, why am I an asshole?

  • @TheGreatOneNo99 mario would hadthe scoring title if he played

  • @pbmoore2: agreed. My favourite player, above Yzerman and Gretzky or any current player. Sakic and Yzerman are both close seconds though.

  • @pbmoore2 not even close to gretzky dumbass

gretzky has 61 records. how many does mario have? right, 0!

  • @Slipknot5301 Gretzky had great teams around him, Lemieux had good teams around him and made them great. Also Lemieux was injured and it caused his career to be shorter than what Gretzky's was. To say Lemieux is not even close to Gretzky is the most idiotic thing I've ever heard.

Lemieux and Gretzky were the two best players to play the game, and will always be. If anyone says neither of them were great is not a true hockey fan.

  • @eltyr18 Could not have been said better.
