  • doesnt he play Julius's brother in Everybody Hates Chris??? HES SO GOOD!

  • Wayne Brady being serious? uh uh i must be dreaming

  • WAYNE BRADY MY NIGGA

  • Yes, Wayne Brady. Yes. Emotionally the best performance I have seen. Sung the best? Maybe not. But DEFINITELY the best emotionally.

  • WOW I knew he was good...but I'm really impressed

  • I love the way he plays it!! Instead of crying, he is playing it very pensively and respectfully almost as if their relationship is playing back before his eyes. He breaks my heart with this performances and he's one of the best I've seen! If only I could say the same for everyone else. :(

  • a surprising performance...didnt realize he was this amazing!

  • @princessrsc You mean you never saw Whose Line? He sang on there all the time.

  • i had a really hard time taking this seriously cause it's wayne brady but i'm actually raelly impressed. i've never seen him being so serious.

  • no collins like march richard ford <3

  • mark*

  • this is beautiful

  • Holy crap! I had NO idea he was in RENT. Wow, I need to get out more.

  • Mark Richard Ford prob cannot be beaten as best Collins ever!

  • omfg! I just realized this Wayne from Who's Line Is It Anyway? wow...he's good, unlike the Mimi in this production *cough-Vanessa-cough*

  • Adding the brass to this performance was a really classy touch, the whole thing had a jazz feel seemingly to give it a distinctively different sound from the NYC performance. Very Hollywood. Also, lets give it up for Gwen Stewart. If she's in one of these videos it was a good show. She's probably sang the lines "With a thousand sweet kisses" Tens of thousands of times.

  • What I wouldn't Do To Be Collins In RENT....My Dream

  • HEY CHECK OUT THIS GUY SINGING ILL COVER YOU REPRISE! HE IS THE NEXT BIG THING ON BWAY! HIS ACCOUNT IS titus3211 TRUST ME LISTEN TO HIM! titus3211 or you can click my page he is in my fav! videos! His name is Michael Wordly!

  • Decent performance. He captured the pathos of the song. Few people could top Jesse L Martin, right? I love Wayne Brady. He comes across as so sincere. But Jesse will always be Tom Collins for me.

  • @Cinders29 There are 3 people who sung this better than Jesse. His understudy in 1996, and the guy in 05, last name was pettiford, and the 3 was Deston Owens. Deston was the best bar none. Jesse's version in the movie kind of sucked...sorry

  • @Cinders29

The first time I saw Rent or heard any of the songs was at a community theatre. EVERYONE in that cast was good enough to be on Broadway. The Collins I saw then is the way I always think of Collins. :)

  • @Cinders29 Jesse Martin is WAY better...his reprise always brings me to tears and his range is way higher than Wayne Brady's.

  • its kindof humorous how he was cast as Collins and Did so great and Vanessa Hudgens was cast as Mimi and was so awful. Sorry ://

  • Holy shit, I didn't know he could sing that low.

  • Yep, Jessie Martin is so much better!! Sorry Wayne Brady

  • Jesse Martin was SO much better.

  • Who knew?

  • wow i was pleasantly surprised by wayne brady!! ... so good and i felt his emotion i even teared up a little bit

  • tracie thomas better work

  • i was expecting him to break into a joke... i've never seen him this serious! 8DD

  • Wow I was pleasantly surprised. I have always loved Wayne Brady and no idea he played Collins. Great job

  • HOLY SHIT IT'S WAYNE BRADY!!!! It took me like ten seconds to realize that! :DDDD

  • OMG WAYNE BRADY. WOW i would never expect him in rent. But i am surprised bout how i like him in this song.

  • Really Wayne... "I will cover yo!" Really... damn couldn't sing you? lol

  • @JMichaelFowlkes It's called interpretation dude. Not everyone HAS to sing it that way. The man has an amazing voice and anyone who has seen him sing in Whose Line knows it. He's the only good thing to come from this shitty cast also.

  • @AnatloyChessPlayer It's a wonderful interpretation, also, don't you think. Glad I'm not the only one. But, for the most part I would say this is a pretty great cast.... MINUS Vanessa Hudgens. Just dreadful. Nicole Scherzinger is a surprise. She actually acted quite well. And a great voice. And most of the rest of the cast are Broadway actors. Aaron Tveit, Skylar Astin, Tracie Thoms, Telly Leung... Just that Vanessa chick... is just... terrible. Haha!

  • @broadwayboundguy totally man. I thought it was so well done, not really sure how Vanessa weaseled her way in there ! ahaha

  • Am i the only one who thinks he sucked at this song? His voice is okay but definitely not strong enough for this role.. pretty much goes for the whole cast minus nicole and some ensembles

  • Doesn't have enough passion. Makes me feel nothing.

  • I simply adore that he sticks to the "original" melody and rhythm in the beginning. It just...makes it like he's trying to hold onto Angel for that one second longer. Gah, such a talented performer.

  • hate the added strings but wayne kills it

  • OMG WAYNE BRADY <3 I cannot take him seriously. Hes frikken amazing! :D

  • This is a "nice" version, he's got a fantastic voice. But this song should make me cry everytime i watch it because of how emotional this is in the show, but i didnt feel anything im afraid :/

  • Yes Wayne!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sang my black brother!!!!!!!! sidebar: WHO IS THAT WOMAN THAT SINGS "WITH A THOUSAND SWEET KISSES" the first time?????

  • @ladyslove89 Gwen Stewart! She is absolutely incredible! She was the original Mrs. Jefferson/Seasons of Love soloist in the OBC, then came back to RENT in 2007. She is on the RENT: LIVE ON BROADWAY DVD from 2008. She toured with RENT in 2009 and then did this in 2010 :D She is amazing, her voice brought me to tears on the DVD and when I saw her live in San Francisco. :D <3

  • good job wayne but i hated this arrangement i want to piss on it and feed it to my dog

  • @Jtscott18098 its the reprise. they have both versions in the play

  • This song is the most if not one of the most powerful songs in the ENTIRE show, and Wayne has an amazing voice. You can hear just how wonderful it is in the beginning, however the Orchestra overpowers him taking away from the personal feel of the song.

  • such talented people in this show, WHO THE HELL PICKED VANESSA?!

  • @kellyisbetterthanyou

dude she is infamous for HSM, but she is an amazing singer. I saw this live, and I was surprised at how much she stood out (in a good way)

  • damnit just let the man sing. Screw the orchestra and the rest of the cast on this one. He's good on his own. Angel just died, this is not a time to show off. You can tell he's in character because he has tears in his eyes. Well done Wayne.

  • what's with the orchestral backing? i think it was better just with a band

  • i love him <3

  • WAYNE!

    Oh how i love him!

I did not know how deep his register went!

love love love love love it!

  • You know I do like Wayne Brady, and it takes alot of balls to get out there and do this.... I am not sure he was perfect for this role..... He was a bit flat in a few areas..... I remember seeing Michael McElroy sing this live.. and he would bring you to tears every night I saw it,,, He really moved the audience..... I just kind of think Wayne was singlng this song with no feeling... as though he did not know the importance of this song to all the RENT fans...That's my 2 cents!

  • YOu know I do like Wayne Brady, and it take alot of balls to get out there and do this.... I am not sure he was perfect for this role..... He was a bit flat in a few areas..... I remember seeing Michael McElroy sing this live.. and he would bring you to tears every night I saw it,,, He really moved the audience..... I just kind of think Wayne was singlng this song with no feeling... That's my 2 cents!

  • this is good

  • I knew Wayne Brady could sing, but I didn't know he could sing like THIS.

  • im proud of this man, stop comparing people here >:O just be happy for his efforts

  • wayne brady, you can sing like nobody's business. who knew.

  • hahah couldnt hit you without changing the vowel..

Jesse shows his vocal strength at the end.. wayne, nice try indeed

  • I love Wayne! He's so amazing!

  • I <3 Wayne Brady.

    just plain and simple :D

  • Not bad, but my only thing is that normally no matter what if I hear this song done by either the movie or one of the Broadway casts, I burst into tears and can't help it because of the emotion they portray, that just doesn't happen here, but I do commend them, they are pretty decent.

  • Hmmm :/

I like Wayne Brady, but I dont feel the same emotion with this cast, its not powerful enough. I really wish I liked it though

  • @XxpunkrockprincessxX There are many out looks on how to do this song he chose the one of really showing a softer love for angle, but i agree with u it would of been amazing it if he went in a more powerful direction with it.

  • @ManBig4 Yeah I see what you mean, it would have been better if he really went for it. But the rest of them apart from tracie are really sloppy in the background. (Sorry thats just my opinion)

  • I found it completely lackluster when I saw this opening night. He copped out on Act 2

  • Love this but I like it when the piano is the main instrument used for the song. For me it makes the song so much more amazing. There's just something about it.

  • Wayne can do ANYTHING!!! Nuff said.... sorry but i felt for this song more when he sang it :)

  • Too much modulation, too many breaths between phrases, not enough belting.

  • I agree not as powerful as Jesse Martin's but still good. Only thing I didnt like was the "Oh yeah" thing they did at the end and I thought the song was a little rushed and took away from the sadness of the funeral scene.

  • the best singer in the world

  • Never thought Wayne could pull it off from Whose Line to the real big stage! He really is one talented guy. :)

  • omfg... ARE YOU SERIOUS XD this is fucking amazing!

  • He is the funniest man alive. Whose Line Is It Anyway is my favorite show.

  • i just died!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wayne brady <3 he is amazing as Collins! i didnt know it was him til i saw this

  • i love wayneee. aww poor baby!! he looks so heartbroken

  • this is good... except i'll cover you reprise usually makes me ball my eyes out! this version didn't

  • I saw the show on Sunday. Wayne Brady blew me away during this number. He broke my heart, and from the sniffles I heard around me, many others, too.

  • Wayne Brady is one of the only ones in this production who can begin to compete with the originals.

  • i'm very happy with the cast, except for vanessa hudgens...

  • @mcfuzz101

I'm sorry, I accidentally voted your comment down, but I didn't mean to, I meant to vote it up.

  • @msRluvsU lol your the only thumbs down haha XD

  • aaand I'm pleasantly surprised.

  • <3 Wayne is amazing

  • Honestly I love Wayne Brady's rendition of it. Of course he can belt but that's not the point. It's subdued and melancholy.

The ending is the problem. The chorus just BOOMING in on his grief is very jarring compared to his performance and the instrumentals. That's an arrangement problem, not his.

  • every time i listen to this or watch it i get tingles all through my body.

  • I adore Wayne Brady, and I think he did a great job here.. but I have to say, it's not as powerful as Jesse Martin's version, and it's not as powerful as I know Wayne could've been. But again as someone mentioned, it is incredibly difficult to sing this heartbreaking song "perfectly" when you have to be in character, mourning for your lover. So I understand. I did love it, but I know it could've been so much more.

  • @JohnsMom1206 I agree, but lets be honest, no Collins has been as amazing as Jesse Martin :)

  • @gracelesslady136 I'd disagree, I think that Michael McElroy was just as good, and in this song was probably better than Jesse. Full credit to Jesse and Wilson for carving out those parts, but I think Michael and Justin are often overlooked and are probably the better singing partnership.

  • @joshwmiltonman oh well, each to their own.

  • hes quite good. again, just like nicole as maureen, never would have expected it but wow<3

  • I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVEEEEEEE Wayne Brady!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • do you have the funeral scene recorded? i was there sat and got it but then accidentally deleted it...

  • i agree with blulnix-i was there on sunday & i did not know Mimi was Vanessa or Nichole or brady were them til i was told @ the end of 1st act! i was shocked! the audience was into it i it was great!

  • if your loved one just died...do you think you'd be singing perfectly??

he's thinking into his character and a commend him for that.

  • @actress0411 Yeeeeea, I'm sure that's the reason. :s

  • @actress0411 ...Yes.

  • BelovedAMH, thank you for posting all these wonderful clips!

I saw the show on Sunday evening, and everyone did a fantastic job. Even Vanessa delivered. Everyone's ripping her a new one based on the first night, but she really held her own on Sunday. I'm bummed they cut parts of Angel's, (Telly Leung was my fave!), but the overall flow the show was still pretty effective.

  • @blulinx I agree, Sunday was way better than Friday. And I mean, Vanessa had some rocky parts, but I thought she had some nice parts as well. Telly's solo from Contact was incredible!

  • Wayne fucking Brady as Collins? Give me a break.

  • Vocally, it was respectable, but not fabulous. The acting, was incredible. There was so much in his eyes I could see even from this video of a video.

  • Hi Papi!

  • i mean you have to admit the concept of this having celebrities play these characters is a bit cheesy... so i mean obviously the arrangements were corrupted a bit to celeb standards... but at least they came through and did the parts justice..

  • idk how i feel about the new arrangements but i love wayne brady and he certainly did NOT dissappoint <3

  • While I like Wayne Brady and he had decent vocals as Tom Collins, the original Tom, Jesse L. Martin is still my all time favorite.

  • @wiz337 I think this guy did a pretty dam good job. I couldn't hear him go off much at all, a bit shaky on some of the held notes sure but a very solid performance indeed for someone who seems quite young.

  • I LOVE Wayne Brady!!!

  • He might just be up there with my fave Collin's

  • I loved this! Wayne Brady is the perfect Collins, aside from the original.

I think he has just the right ammount of sillyness, but then he can be serious and heartbreaking like right here.

I absolutly love him! Big thumbs up Wayne! :D

  • <3 love it

  • He gets off key...ALOT. It just ruins the song

  • @wiz337 No he doesn't. That's called riffing.

  • @nhemt Nope. He goes flat every time he does a RIFF/RUN. And you can do a RIFF/RUN and still stay on key, which he doesn't. If he's flat he's just flat, no need to explain why.

  • @wiz337 I'm not going to argue with you....but we're not hearing the same song...and he's fine.

  • @nhemt K. He's Flat. Thank You.

  • @wiz337 Most of the men who've attempted this song get off key. Yes, even the original Collins. Yes, I said it.

  • @erginakif I Actually Agree With You.

  • this might be the most amazing ill cover you that i have heard

  • Beautiful, my gosh!

  • Wayne Brady is amazing. :D

  • he went to my high school
