Lik e this ..Great pickin'. I also like this tune done by David Bromberg, Chris Smither, Andy Kimbel and of course who can forget the Allman Brothers... They just may have put the song on the map in a generic sense.
The way he tells the story, no dates and loads of possibility's, 1926 , my da was three
degrees warmer than he is now, at 87 he never listened to a song like this in his wife, my mother, he had his own rhythm section, ended up with a football team. No subs though. Great little singer sound righter, OK I digress but there's loads of time a veil a bubble.
Willie played on the streets of not only Atlanta, but Augusta, Savannah, and Statesboro. He had relatives in Statesboro, but I always heard he was born in Waynesboro, up the road apiece. I know he is buried in the Waynesboro/Thomson area.
i almost cried during his song "if my woman was whiskey"... only cuz i wanted a bottle of whiskey so FREAK'N bad, and all that the club served was beer 8-(
In addition to being a master musician and scholar Paul is an excellent Luthier. The 12 string he is playing he assembled himself, putting the 12 string neck on the "Stella body" This is not a task for amateurs as you also have to adjust the bracing. master craftsman as well
Maybe, but I know he has such a guitar. I have seen twice at the Rosendale Cafe in Rosendale NY and he went into great detail about that Stella and how he worked on it. He is a twelve string master regardless of what instrument he is using
I'm an old friend of Paul's from Providence, R.I. I used to see him at The Mouthpiece & The Rhode Island Coffeehouse in the late 60's. One of my first influences as a guitar player. And, he played The Yellow Door in Montreal. A good man and a Great Artist...Thanks... bob
Thanks for this video I haven't seen this performer since he was performing in Boston Ma in the 60's at the very start of his career. This was always one of my favorites by him
