  • wow now i don't know what version i like better... what a voice what a great band

  • 4:05 makes me want to get high again!

  • 2nd fav song ever. 1st fav is Rotten Apple

    Love you Layne!!!

  • this is the way "junkhead" was supposed to sound and deserved to sound. jerden killed it, imho, on the actual album. this so much more captures how the band sounded live. layne's harmonies on the chorus, is just mind blowing. where's the highest harmony on the dirt version? if it's there it's certainly too low in the mix. jerden! dirt deserved a much better mix and production than what you gave it! argh! they should re-mix the whole album to sound like THIS, imho.

  • @Camaromandave98 lol what the hell is papaver somniferum and please give me some detailed instructions on how I can get the materials needed to grow it myself... ps I am fucking ripped of opana rite now :) sooo high

  • @myPAINisSELFchosen85 "wow, you're so cool being high on opana". OFF TOPIC! take your lame-ass opium discussion and you're bragging about being high in a PM instead. no one's interested, no one thinks you're cool for being high. bragging about being high on youtube is the most f...ing lame thing you can do. grow up!

  • I want to score sooo fucking bad, I just moved to a new town Sac, CA and have no hookups here, I just started my new job and haven't gotten paid yet.... all I want to do is score and watch home alone 2 while I'm ripped off some black tar. Is that too much to ask?

  • @myPAINisSELFchosen85 I FINALLY FUCKING SCORED YAAAAAAAAA... not heroin but two 40mg opanas and i just snorted both back to back and feel about as good as I can concidering I didnt get my hands on the black tar that i wanted

  • CHECK MY COVER OF THIS SONG THIS SONG!!

  • I love laynes voice but AIC wouldnt be the same if any of them left not just layne but jerry also..

  • Whoa how much of an asshole do you have to be to turn a discussion about AIC into a Layne vs. Cantrell pissing match. Fuck all y'all doing that bullshit. You are just fucking wrong.

  • I keep seeing this shit about Cantrell being the better half WTF is wrong with you people? As clearly evidenced, Ccantrell aint shit without Layne. Look at the monumental differences in experience and lyrical tone between layne and the new guy, miles,... fucking miles... Layne was the magic behind AIC not some fucking guitar player that wrote some lyrics.

  • madseason layne wrote every song.

  • better than the original id say, nah fuck tht they're both equal in there own respects

  • The band i'm working with would be as good as this if we had a vocalist. Can you sing? Check out reverbnation. c o m/liewakemusic we are from green bay wi.

  • im soo blasted rite now, mann oh man

  • ^_^

  • this is great for karaoke :)

  • @kellann55 no one can sing this......bc its too good

  • i like the chorus in this version. when all the background voices come in at 4:18 it sounds really nice.

  • I have to say i like this version better than the one thats on dirt.! the vocals on this are amazing!

  • 180 more awsum people to light up with...

  • 2 more faggots for the world to bitchslap.....

  • junkie forever bro, this world sucks

  • @tronco112 hhaha. fuck yeahh

  • @tronco112 FUCK YA IT DOES

  • perfect version

  • really appreciate the posting of the aic demo sets

  • thanks to everyone that posts the aic demo tapes

  • i'm old...and broken. i was 24 when i heard this song, i live 60 miles from Seattle..if you want to know what the "Seattle" scene was about then listen. hard as fuck. ask yourself why modern bands can't tough this kind of heaviness...reality...truth... anymore. you are being robbed.

  • @fcchef I plan, with Layne's ghost and others, to bring back the spirit of grunge at least 1/4th this good. I can't stand the banality of music today.

  • @fcchef - I'm from Somerset in England (GB) and I know this is cool.

  • @fcchef I'm young, and broken.....and live very close to Seattle.....it's not about the music dude, it's about your soul........and how you connect with the music.........just sayinnnn.

  • Can you send me an mp3 of this demo?

  • The harmony on the chorus on this one is far better than the one on Dirt.

  • @campbelljordanable The harmony is the same one, with a different emphasis.

  • @somepjguy

    explain..

i know nothing about harmonies, but love them

  • @AidanMusik Bit late to reply, but what I meant was that the same set of notes are sung. There is a different emphasis on different parts of the harmony in this version, what sounds like the main vocals here is more in the background in the studio version and vice versa. I prefer this version.

  • i I am floored as it was his vocals that hit me !

dope ass shit i wanted more and we lost him r.i.p. bro !

we all miss the man that i belive was alice n chains and without him its not alice n chains , i mean the dude was the lead singer and well loved ! to bad huh ? suxx , but without layne there is no band called " ALICE N CHAINS " THAT WAS LAYNE'S BANE END OF TRANNSMISSION AS I LOVE THE BAND RI.P. MIKE STARR ! AL

  • who's the 1 lonely moda fuckn pathetic fucker to be disliked this video??

  • @High5Brah Your crazy hes one of my fav drummers

  • it's curious how he fits a spoken word section with the other vocal track. never heard of this version before but i think that this version gave the song another direction, more personal and poetic,a chaotic declaration.it's amazing how layne still impress me even now in 2011 that's why he was the man and will allways be the man no one can match him

  • @High5Brah I agree, but i don't think its that bad on this particular recording :P

  • AIC, make a demo CD FFS!!

  • what a fucking bass in chorus. and this version is so much better than original...so powerfull

  • ALice in chains is not just layne... Jerry Cantrell is equally important and did most of the lyrics.. sheesh stop ignorng jerry you fools

  • @llHyRaXll not only lyrics....he's the man behind Would?, down i a h., and many many others...Layne wrote a lot of lyrics on "Alice In Chains" though

  • @Janusson yeah personally dirt is my fav album but yeah laynes voice is better suited for some parts and jerry for some others but i think jerry gets to over shadowed for osme reason,, even though hes a great singer and like you said did many lyrics

  • i love this version mroe than original...this version is so powerfull...and the chorus makeme cry!

  • R.I.P. Layne i wish he could of done one or two more albums with alice in chains.

  • So much better than all the live ones, studio version, and all the shit Duvall does.

    Just simply amazing.

  • Layne and Jerrys voices = PERFECT match!

  • one of the best song of the of all times!! this version is excelent, lyrics are straight! money status nothing to me! yeahh that is rock. rock & roll will never die forever junkhead

  • @indiobastardo Amen brother!

  • i love this version so much -_-

  • Using heroine makes you a cool guy.

  • With Layne ALC = GOD Without Layne ALC = some another band...

  • this song is great motivation towards drug use, either that or you could take it completely as sarcasm.....

  • @ScottyHatchet I don't take it as either. It fits in with the complex, multi-dimensional narrative of addiction that this albums truly is. Yes, this seems to glorify use, but taken with the entire album, you get the real picture.

  • @ScottyHatchet Agreed, but it's a amazing song.

Layne regretted doing all those drugs in the long run, and now he's dead.

  • I turned 40 today..yet this song...haunts me always...miss ya layne..

  • Whats my drug of Chooooooooooooooooooooooooooooicccccce

  • Demoniac

  • the chorus in this version is so fuckin awesome

  • awedamn.... the bass isnt as strong as it is in studio >.<

  • favorite alice in chains song.

  • @muckypup1975 Mine 2. I really like the harmonies in the chorus on this version, but the studio version is better for me.

  • @muckypup1975

Me too. This has always been my favorite Alice song.

  • i like this version but i like the raised chorus of the studio version better vs the lowering of pitch in this one. in this one i like the echo better vs dirts

  • @flatbranch1 something i love about this song is that every version i hear has something special to it. this one, the album version, and live at the singles party are the 3 best for me. Singles party has got to be my favorite overall though.

  • this is better than the album version

  • It is better than orgasm because it lasts over fucking 5 minutes!

  • Comment removed

  • i personally prefer this version over the studio version. it sounds more alive. especially with the different harmonies in the chorus.

  • Ahh the music bank. Best damn christmas present i ever got. A.I.C. just isn't the same without layne.

  • orgasm at 1:03

  • Thanks for all the demos, ARMS0is0still0here.

  • I have to confess that I know very little about recording and all of it's complexities, but what is it about this track that makes it only a "demo" version (aside from the obvious "it was recorded as preliminary reference material")? I mean it sounds every bit as polished as the album release to me.

  • Shit this demo was EPIC!

  • Layne without any argument is 1 of the greatest rock vocalist on the planet... ever! Reading some of these ignorant posts of Jerry haters is very amusing because if U know anything about AIC, U would know that Mr. Cantrell was the musical Dr. Frankenstien behind it all. Also with thier unorthodox harmonies TOGEATHER in combination with the above mentioned made AIC...PERIOD!!! So all of U haters put ur emotions aside and get ur facts straight!!!

  • while i like most of the album version better, the chorus in this version is like a choir from heaven!

  • the album version is way more better.. there is too much going on on this version.

  • @toniisisethen true but still awesome

  • why did they change that chorus!!?!?!?! This one is soo much better!! FUCK!!

  • @BurntToast355 hell yeah it is better!

  • Best vocalist i've ever heard!

  • smoke more weed

  • Music sucks now!! Just so everyone knows im constructing a time machine so i can go back to the 90's when music was still good!! I will make a post when im done, might be awhile. Alice In Chains forever!!

  • i always loved alice in chains!

  • i think this is better than the final version

  • I like the chorus on this version so much better

  • Alice in chains?? WTF?? XD XD XD XD

...these aren't alice in chains... and this "demo" version isn't their own...

  • @MiliMarco What are you talking about?

  • Its the studio voice track overlay.

  • i thought this was the only version availible. after listening to this so many times, the other version just couldn't please me...

by the way alice in chains without layne is like a cheap tribute band. they should really stop playing old songs and focus on new ones in my opinion.

  • Good to hear a different version of a good song

  • this version is so so soooo sick. Woahhh!

  • This was my favorite song from Dirt when it first came out. 90's high school. Grunge.

Money, status, nothing to me. Cause your life's empty and bare! You tell em' Layne!

  • I like this version or the singles version over all the others. Love how he says "USIN" instead of "doing" it just fits better. Definitely one of the best songs of AIC!!

    WHATS MY DRUG OF CHOICE!!!???

    RIP LAYNE

  • kewl version, thanx for posting ^^

  • I like this better than the one that ended up on dirt

  • Nothing better than Layne Staley....He made Alice

  • Nothing better than Layne Staley's mind. I wish he was here. He made Alice

  • great singer, great solo, great ritam, great melody, great and earnest text, more then a song, more then a bend...

  • ,<3

  • wow this sounds awesome

  • Beautiful demo!!!!

  • i just think its amazing i love the emotion and the meaning of the lyrics and layne staley and jerry cantrells chemistry

  • Why do they even think they can sing this song with out everyones' favorite junkie on vocals?

  • @icutyouupsobad Not respectful bro

  • this demo is really pretty!!!

  • Hahaha gotta love that last picture. That's just good advertising.

  • LAYNE = ALICE N CHAINS ! PERIOD !

  • Who's Mark? I don't remember there every being a Mark in the band.

  • @AL2000FL Sure we all loved Layne and miss him, but without Jerry there would never have been Alice In Chains.

  • @27519 True... but the same applies to jerry if he never met Layne... he would be on a farm playing for the fucking cows.

  • @MrTufflong i agree with you but my point is that it wasn't just Layne who was important. they are equal.

  • @27519 Yeah, the band as a unit is what makes AIC. that being said, it really isn't AIC without Layne now is it?

  • @MrTufflong Fucking obvious

  • @AL2000FL wait man i was thinking about trying out for AIC in a little while man, I mean it doesnt matter who sings the song...... just kidding i agree, If it was Phil anselmo who got shot in the fucking face! , and they replaced him with another singer i would have personaly beat the shit out of him. Im sorry i think, they should have let AIC died, there new songs cant slightly compete, you know im right!

  • @AL2000FL Wrong. Cantrell = AIC

  • @gabegambino You're both wrong. Staley AND Cantrell = Alice in Chains

  • @gabegambino Ba-Ba-Ba-BULLSHIT!!

  • @gabegambino if cantrell was AIC why dont they sound the same now?

  • @VaKsnowMaN I think he meant from a sonwriting aspect jerry is better songwriter but layne was the better singer

  • @mrcobain215VIDZ2 Angry Chair and Hate To Feel were brilliant I don't know what your talking about.

  • @frootloopwarriors when did I ever say that they weren't, my point is Cantrell is the better song writer but Layne wasn't too far behind

  • @mrcobain215VIDZ2 Far Behind is a good point. I think you should listen the song "Far Behind" from "Candlebox". Both very great songs!

  • @mrcobain215VIDZ2 ever heard of madseason

  • @AL2000FL I agree to an extent but it was the dissonance of the WHOLE band that made it CLASSIC Alice. Without Layne it could never be CLASSIC AIC but they can still make NEW classic songs because they are still really talented alltogether.

  • @AL2000FL no, man..

AIC had 2 genius: layne and cantrell

    layne passed away

but we still have cantrell.. cmon..

  • @Lawsupernerd You're forgetting Mr. Mike Starr. A damn good bassist, very underrated. RIP

  • "if you let yourself go and open your mind...I bet you'd be doin' like me - and it aint so bad!"

  • god! its so good. best, love this. Layne what you are so idiot, why are you dead! RIP Layne. You was best singer on this planet.

  • album versions definately better, especially as this version misses what i think makes the song... the 3rd scream of "yeah!" after the guitar solo. layne sounds like he put SO MUCH into that scream... i suppose thats what made him 1 of the best. r.i.p man

  • I had never heard this before!! My band has covered this song since Dirt came out. I wrote a song for / about Layne if anyone wants to check it out its called Voodoo Doll. Look on my myspace page (url: Musicfeller) Joshua Lee.

  • RIP Layne. god bless you brotha.

  • That sounds HUGE

  • Stoners,junkies,and freaks, like me!

  • useless like me what have you got

  • "Money status, nothing to me"...

  • I just plain love how Alice in chains really harmonizes most of their music, its so awesome, like if you hear them on the radio or a cd, you just feel compelled to sing the high or low part! you feel like you right there with Layne singin! I love ALICE IN CHAINS

  • haha i always switch off between jerry and layne on this one. its fun to sing jerrys lower part during the chorus since layne's higher part sticks out more. sounds awesome. well, to me at least. i cant sing for shit.

  • oh well, as long as your in the shower or in your car, sing as loud as you please and dont worry what you sound like! thats the cool part! just be you! its so enlightening!!

  • This is just an INSANE Show-off of Layne's voice. :O

It had an incredible span, why cant musicians today match anything like this :S

  • absofnlutly right...IT AINT SO BAD

  • I'll bet you'll be using like me, and it aint so bad.

  • The main riff reminds me of 'Dazed and Confused' by Zep. How it descends.

  • Comment removed

  • This song has alot of truth to it.

most people really cant understand a users mind.

and if more people were open minded more of them would try drugs.

  • @BarnBrat You're missing the point. This is really a anti drug song. " And it ain't so bad." he knows it's bad, but he hoplessly addicted. It's a bitter drug user justifying his use.

  • I like to hear any AIC song, blazin dank or not :P. Although after a night of burnin blunts turnin on some AIC live videos is definately all to epic.

  • and when I say live videos, I don't mean non of that wack duvall shit LAYNE FOR LIFE.

  • Are their any demos for Tripod,Sap, or Jar of Flies?

  • I like this version better than the album version, AIC kicks ass, I miss Layne, hope that they still sound good with W Duvall.

  • Maybe a better voice exists in modern rock, but i can't think of any. He's singing a song promoting drug use, when he went to 86 pounds, lost his teeth and had liver failure, horrific chronic pain.. all from drugs. Now that takes balls. I wonder how many people were lured into trying H from this song.

  • this song isnt obviously about H so I mean not that many..

i mean they dont mention it anywhere?

I tried it cause I wanted too.

I have used it many times but Im not an addict. I can see how it would be easy to become one though, once you feel how good those drugs make you feel its hard not to think about it and want to do it.

  • It's hard to think of anything that causes more wreckage to people's lives and families than drugs. Just think of all those people, and every one of them said the same thing you did. They're not an addict, they just wanted to try it. Sure, check back in 10 years

  • everyone says that but its not always true,
