@gt500cowboy The demonstration that we have had the privilege to witness in this clip is an example of the beauty that can be achieved when one sees temporal borders and nationalities for what they truly are; illusion.
This master is demonstrating a truth that I, for want of knowing the proper chinese equivalent, would refer to as 合気. A concept and philosophy that transcends language. Peace and love to you, my Chinese brother and I hope that one day we have the chance to "push" hands together.
With all due respect to the Grand Master, there is a application with the sword that would be very dangerous to even try to execute at 0:39. Using the hands to brush will probably get yourself stabbed as the sword is longer than you arms. One miss and your dead. I wouldn't even attempt to practice that application. What do you think?
@bigfatfoot You are absolutely right this technique can be very dangerous and would require a lot a dexterity to accomplish. But again those techniques are very advanced ones and performed here as a demonstration by Li ziming at the age of more than 80 years old.
To perform such techniques you need to master your center and the one of your opponent ;)
Li Zi Ming was one of the greats for sure. Thanks for sharing. I wonder whatthe Japanese must have thought of this "aikido" demonstration though... :-D
