I know the singer in real life. He uses auto tune because he has a hard time transitioning between his really high harmonies. That is THE ONLY REASON WHY. If/when he can transition better, they will stop using autotune. Nuff' said.

Auto-tune is mostly used by synthpop bands.

Though, does it work with trance-metal? Yes, it works. Abandon All Ships are doing what they do best. Mix metal with trance music in some parts and auto-tune on clean vocals... Must say it's very eadible mix.
