  • Cyd Charisse was one of the prettiest stars of her time and well, Gene Kelly is my all time favorite...I am from Pittsburgh :)

  • you'd have to look really closely to see that that backdrop is not real, in the sense, --MGM did a really good job of approximating the real thing. that's Hollywood magic at its best--and of course Gene and Cyd. A lovely wistful song--I like to sing it often.

  • I feel like Brigadoon is similar to Carousel...

  • I wish the makers of dreck were still alive so they can be charged with crimes against humanity.

  • I like the way Gene Sings about"Heather On The Hill".

  • Gorgeous movie. But Gene Kelly could NOT sing. Should've stuck to just dancing.

  • @ElsieNow this is, of course, a matter of personal opinion! I think he had a lovely light voice, just right for the roles he played

  • He was always such a pleasant fellow.

  • Gene wanted to have this filmed in Scotland, but the studio said it would too expensive, so they filmed it in a studio.

  • Brigadoon is one of my favorite old classic movies, hope you upload the whole movie, together with The Field of Dreams. More power to You!!!!!!

  • One of the things I find so amazing about Cyd Charisse is that she makes it all look so effortless and natural. I don't get the sense that I'm watching her shift into "Dancing Now!" mode when she dances. It's as though she always moves like this, whether she's brushing her teeth, doing household chores or dancing with Gene Kelly on a dreamy heather-strewn hill.

  • One of my favorite all-time movies, ever since our Jr. High class took us kids to see it in the theater, back in the 60's. I love the production, acting, everything. A magical feeling that comes through the screen. RIP Cyd and Gene...

  • I saw this movie when I was 5 or 6 and I still search for it every so often, and now that I know what it is I can't get enough and love it still (I just turned 24 btw) !

  • acchh.. This was the assigned song for my audition (:37 thru :59, except not in tenor lol) for the musical, and every time I hear this song now, I get the same sick feeling I had on audition day.

  • If only we could find our own Brigadoon. Thanks for this wonderful Gene Kelly-Cyd Charisse visit to that beautiful, faraway village.

  • too bad i cant hear is music,

  • my romantic soul is completely awaken :)) Gene Kelly & Cy Charisse are Wonderful!

  • i love this movie :)

i was most definitely born in the wrong generation. 1992?! no way. how about 1942?

  • Brigadoon: Height of mid century Romanticism

  • One of my favorite scenes from one of my favorite Gene Kelly films.

  • People, if you want to hear an absolutely lovely version of this song check out Kate Mcgarry on Marian Mcpartland's piano jazz show(you can find it via achivesof past shows)

  • Youtube wont allow upload of full misicals.

If you want a copy of Brigadoon google Brigadoon DVD. There are plenty of sites offering downloads or DVD's.

And BTW it was written by LERNER and LOWE not Rogers and Hammerstein!!!

  • ALBA GU BRATH.

  • I tried several times to watched it on you tube since we disconnect our cable network but it seems so hard to locate the full-length movie itself. Could anyone out there please upload the movie BRIGADOON??? Thanks a lot and hope to see this movie BRIGADOON in you tube very sooon!!! thanks for those who will upload the movie!!

  • Brigadoon is so wonderful and great! I was born 4 years after but when i saw it in the cable channel, i was amazed. It was so wonderful to see this movie again and again. I'm hoping that the local channels will air this very great and so wonderful movie of all time!!!!

  • Ah Aegan....you brought the tears to my eyes and I think you know it. There really is a Brigadoon and..you choose a perfect evening to bring this clip to my attention as Wizzy and I are celebrating our 37th wedding anniversary today!

There is magic in the air!!

    Heart Hugs~Nancy

  • Yes, the songs are wonderful - but then again, what isn't wonderful from Rogers and Hammerstein..

  • Brigadoon is wonderful, as are the songs, but it isn't Rogers and Hammerstein, It's Lerner and Lowe

  • Check your ampersands, right?

    ..And it's R-O-D-G-E-R-S.

  • @tkd12359 That's right--check your ampersands.

    It's R-O-D-G-E-R-S, incidentally.

Anyhow, I don't agree with the way this was transformed to the screen.

  • @tkd12359 Who cares? ..i met my wife on this movie, still the same girl since 30 years

  • I beg to disagree. I saw the play on Broadway when it was quite new and then saw the movie a few years later. They were both wonderful and are among my favorites!

  • grazie per avere tradotto la magia di questo film

  • Well, 23 degrees does sound pleasant - yes I guess it would be silly to run barefoot - I love hot dry weather we have in this area of Saskatchewan. Anyway, I have a question - is there a group you know of that is interested in discussing the old musicals? Brigadoon, South Pacific, Oklahoma, etc. I mean the making of the film, the stars, the plot, location - just trivia re the movie - I find that interesting and absolutely love Rogers and Hammerstein, Ler and Lowe musicals..

    Thanks...

  • Am afraid i don't. Love the old musicals too, was brought up on them although have to say detest Brigadoon. Makes me cringe to be honest. Only looked it up to find a song that a friend and I were arguing about lol!! I won!! She thought that "Heather on the Hill" was just a song made famous by one of Scotland's old crooners and nothing to do with Brigadoon! I remember it as we had to do the stupid musical at school!! I was a dancer! Good luck with your search.

  • I have to say the movie version is not my favorite. That's because Meg Brockie isn't as main a character as she is in the stage version. She has two amazing songs in the original score. I was fortunate enough to play her and I have to say the stage version outweighs the movie greatly!

  • @DramaGirl313 Also, I have yet to know the deal with changing the surname--on the stage it was MacLaren, not this Campbell business.

  • @Juliaflo Yeah, I've been wondering that myself. They changed so much. Why fix what isn't broken?

  • I agree with you on the composers. Rogers and Hammerstein were my favorites and Oklahoma! is still my favorite musical. I don't know of any show that has as many singable songs. Only "Poor Judd is Dead" cannot be sung out of context.

    Brigadoon is my second favorite.

btw, Richard Rogers was a friend of my grandfather. So, for that matter, was Irving Berlin, but I never met either although I lived next door to my grandfather.

  • Those are my top two as well. :) I was in both of them within the last year which was such a blessing. They are so much fun and the music is wonderful! And that is so neat that your grandfather knew Rogers and Berlin. Very impressive!

  • I have spent summers in Scotland and England for many years, and always felt chilled with little sunshine. Maybe the climate has changed since then. I always thought the British Isles had a temperate climate with temps in the mid sixties to low seventies - I have never been there when it was warm enough to run barefoot through the glens! I live in Sask, Canada where summers are hot and suitable to run barefoot...

  • You've probably just gone soft then! Just the other week I sat in my sister's garden who lives round the corner from me having a BBQ. It was 23 degrees and we were all in T shirts etc. This was in early September. It is silly to run barefoot in the glens due to sharp rocks and thistles! I hate really hot weather. :)

  • In 1987 my wife and I were flying a small plane from France to the United States. We stopped for the night in Aberdeen. It was August, but my wife was thrilled to find that there was a roaring fire in the hotel lobby! To her, saying she was "chilled" would be putting it mildly!

  • Yes, I don't think the climate of Scotland has changed since I was there - I felt chilled to the bone in August when I was there in 1969. I lived on the west coast of Canada in the Queen Charlotte Islands which is pretty well on the same latitute as the British Isles, and the weather is cool and rainy most of the year with few sunny days...

  • Well, I think the weather has changed since I was there in 1969 - I recall one sunny day. Anyhow, I was born in England and my Dad is from Glasgow - perhaps the sun is warm but the climate does not get very warm - temperate all year around from what I experienced ..

  • 1969???? So you deduce that Scotland is "cold and damp most of the time" based on 1 visit 40 years ago?LOL!

  • Magnificent!

  • As much as I love Gene & Cyd together, it would've been interesting to see Moira ("The Red Shoes") Shearer, who turned this down, dance this number.

  • you could not go running around Scotland in bare feet - its damp and cold most of the time!

  • Nonsense!! I'm a Scot, living in my own country. I had the worst sunburn ever on the Isle of Skye!!!

  • I hate Gene Kelly.....he's super fit and loaded with talent,great actor,dancer,singer...mmmm
