stupid black chick why should they most of these candidates went through college and worked hard why should they make the same as those chick that work at mcdonalds
Minimum wage was one of those "good intentions" programs but ended up have disastrous consequences. The American people just haven't realized it yet.
Minimum wage is the most anti-negro law in the books. If one doesn't have the skills to justify a wage of $6.55 an hour (or whatever it is) then they won't be hired. Look back to the 1950s when the min. wage increased dramatically, the result was a Huge increase in teenage unemployment, which still remains over twice that of an adult.
The problem with Bachmann, Radtke, ad nauseam, and their followers, is that they all want slave labor. They all want to pay workers shit but then demand diamonds in return. Work your ass off all day long while the boss sits on his. Then, on payday, you get les than half of what he gets. I'm routinely more productive in any five man-hours than two of my bosses are in twenty. For that I get a fraction of the pay they get. Of course you haters of MW have no problem w/THAT type of injustice, do you?
@cincyblows No one wants slave labor. And this rant you have just proves you do not understand any of the arguements against your position. If the work you do is high skilled work you will naturally get paid higher than minimum wage. And if you work a low skill job than naturally you will be paid less. The government does not need to dictate your salary. Minimum wage subsidies won't truly get people to rise out of poverty.
@cincyblows seriously, more welfare recipients and those who suck off the government teet are more likely to vote Democrat. I have found in my workplace that those who do less just so happen to lean left and not right. I am a hard working, tax paying American and have been since I was 15. Economically, it hurts the poorest of the poor to raise the minimum wage.
@lsleveland72 I agree withv your first sentence. I agree more than not withv the second. Regarding the last sentence, would you prefer that people can't afford to support themselves?
@cincyblows I would prefer that we close our borders, enforce the immigration laws, that we not allow our government to overregulate every aspect of our lives and businesses. I would prefer that people be allowed to reap the consequences/benefits of their life choices. I would prefer that if you do immigrate to this great nation, you learn the language and assimilate to our culture instead of trying to transform it into a marxist nation because you think you are "owed" something for nothing.
@lsleveland72 I agree with every point you made, except I support minimum wage. As I've stated repeatedly, if mw were eliminated (it won't be), then there would be a mass influx of people to the food stamp line, the fuel assistance line (natural gas and electricity), and every other welfare assistance program. The taxpayer would then be saddled with an insane tax burden. It's because I'm conservative that I support mw -at least when the unemployment rate is in the double digits.
@cincyblows What does it matter if one is trying to earn a "living" wage whether or not it is seasonal work? You know why we don't find it important to pay minimum wage to farm workers? Because our food costs would skyrocket and we can employ tons of illegal aliens to do that work. Companies will pass their operating costs off to customers. So less people going out to eat means fewer employees at McDonalds making mw., means more people on food stamps and out of work.
@BSANONYMOUS Impose rent control, and watch neighborhoods turn to slums. In many cases, holding down rents makes it impossible for landlords to justify spending money on repairs and maintenance. Buildings fall apart, and housing becomes more scarce. As for MW, why not let the unemployed who are willing to work for less do so? MW makes that illegal, and thus does the most damage to the people that MW supporters believe they're helping. I want to help them too, which is why I oppose MW.
totally pointless, less than 5% of the population works for minimum wage and if you can't move past that for your whole life, there is probably something wrong with you
@iwustudent101 Eliminating MW might lead to more jobs at first, but that only means more people will have to be covered by workman's comp. That can't be good for the ol' profit margin.
This is pretty simple. If michele Bachmann (and others) had their way and min wage were eliminated, then many more millions of workers would have to go on welfare -and aren't those who push for min wage elimination already bitching about entitlement programs at the taxpayers' expense? I like some of Bachmann's ideas, but this one is entirely stupid.
@pureaggression Gee, thanks for that highly rational response. With your batshit craziness, I'll assume you're a Ron Paul supporter. Or is that Ru Paul?
@cincyblows Ron Paul understands economics. He understands that the Great Depression was prolonged by the Fed's failure to address inflation, Hoover's tax increase, and the Smoot-Hawley Tarriff Act. Only 2.5% of workers over 25 years old are on minimum wage. Minimum wage is a problem for teenagers who have a current unemployment rate of 25.5%. No minimum wage would allow more teenagers to work low skill jobs and make money. And with teenagers you would not need to worry about workers comp.
@cincyblows "Minimum wage workers tend to be young. Although workers under age 25 represented only about one-fifth of hourly-paid workers, they made up half of those paid the Federal minimum wage or less. Among employed teenagers paid by the hour, about 11 percent earned the minimum wage or less, compared with about 2 percent of workers ager 25 and over."
That's directly from the Bureau of Labor statistics.
@JasonCIAHudson "Contrary to popular opinion, the average worker affected by an increase in the minimum wage is not just a teenager flipping hamburgers. Only one in fourteen is a teenage student from a family with above average earnings.
The fact is, almost two-thirds of minimum wage workers are adults, and four in ten are the sole bread winner of their family."
Source -US Department of Labor, Office of The Secretary
@JasonCIAHudson You'd have to take that statistic up with the US Department of Labor. I've seen these types of statistics for years. They don't change significantly (significance level = 5%) very much or very often. You were saying?
@cincyblows That statistic was used in 1996 as an arguement to increase minimum wage. You don't find any other statistic supporting that claim in recent years. The most recent data shows that is not the case today. And I site data not only from the Department of Labor but from the Employement Policies Institute.
@JasonCIAHudson I invite you to see the official source itself. If you're dissatisfied with it, then you might want to complain to the US Dept. of Labor. By the way, the Labor secretary disagrees with you.
@cincyblows I saw the source. And the FORMER US Labor secretary disagrees with me. The CURRENT secretary agrees with me. I realize you don't understand economics and that is why I can never reason with you. So stop.
@JasonCIAHudson I understand that you want something for nothing. You think business should get free labor. Someday, when you're all grown up and are out of school, you'll understand that incentive is ALWAYS key. I don't need to be lectured by someone who fails to grasp the value of money after I've worked my butt off to earn mine. I'm used to people like you who sit on their asses all day doing nothing but barking out orders to those who actually work. Then, on payday, the workers get zilch.
@cincyblows If you are going to continue to ignore the facts, shift the subject, and spout this incendiary rhetoric than I ask that you stop. But if you want to bring forth a reasonable arguement instead than by all means do.
Good point. Eliminating Min Wage (which at it's current state is not even livable) would give corruptions the full power to abuse workers. That's why corps hate unions so much because they protect workers rights. It's amazing how people in this country will stand up for the rich and powerful but not their own neighbor or family. Most of them are either middle class or the working poor and will never be rich a day in their lives, but they always serve as a mouthpiece for the rich. Brainwashed.
Sorry I meant eliminating min wage would give CORPORATIONS and other business entities the full power to abuse workers by making them work for scraps and ridiculous hours.
This is by all means an excellent question, but I don't think it should be answered thought, just something for them to think about. Because does anyone really think any of them would say no to the question? And I'm very disappointed that towards the middle people start to joke about it.
@iwustudent101 Except for the fact that the minimum wage is barely enough to live off of, so if you allow people to work for less than the minimum wage, nothing changes. They will starve either way. The only difference is that it would decrease the wages of other more skilled workers and allow employers to have lots of starving people on their payroll.
What you're asking for is what they have in china.
min. wage in Ontario is 10.25 an hour, after taxes and all the BS deductions, thats 7.65$ an hour. It costs 10$ just to get there, and there is no overtime pay. Roughly 50$ a day made, - 10$ for food (daily), - utilities, not to mention rent. Wages go up 1$ a year if you're lucky, but everything else almost doubles in price (gas, food, shelter.)
$986 dollars a month full time after taxes. House payment or rent is easily 500 dollars a month... thats 486 dollars to support a family? What about food, electricity, and other needs. Gas cost average person $40 a week.$160 dollars gone there.
Senator Chris said he has two daughters and could not afford to LIVE in minimum wage. What about minimum wage people who have kids... they cannot live.
Other guy makes 120,000 a year? Minimum wage is 20,000 thousand a year! Thats 6 times the amount.
@slickbtk I read through a few comments on this page. The only person that looked at this situation with a similar perspective as me seemed to be you. I just wanted to know if we really are on the same page..? Do you believe the that the monetary system has become fundamentally corrupt by the FBR? Do you believe that no system with a profit based insentive can work without vulnerability to corruption. Most importantly, what do think is the solution?
Money belongs to the central banking system. Any money they manufacture is loaned with interest attached. Ultimately (as there is no other money produced) that interest can only be repaid by more loans from the CBS. This is perpetual debt & it is the reason why the world is enslaved to banking corporations. Min wage has no lasting relevance in a flawed system designed to inflate. The monetary system is corrupt & there's no point in asking for help from the 1% who profit from that system.
@nfwvideo1 The companies must take full responsibility for their employee's health and well-being. The government must simply monitor those actions. As for child labor, government has to intervene and intercede whenever possible.
These people have no basic understanding of economics. Enforcing a minimum wage will destroy jobs and raise prices.
If a business makes $50 profit / hour and the minimum wage is $10, it can afford to hire 5 employees. If you force the minimum wage up to $11, how many people can the business afford to hire?
I think any politician would work for minimum wage because the amount of money they make off of ghost written books and short TV speeches makes them rich, their political wage is nothing to them.
@BSANONYMOUS well, take this into consideration, since you are so smart. if minimum wage is doubled, the cost of labour is doubled. the cost of products will increase significantly, the purchasing power of one dollar is decreased significantly, massive inflation is incurred, and doubling wages did nothing but inflate the dollar and cause unemployment in the short run.
@EllaBelle18 incorrect. nothing creates inflation except for the expanding of the money supply. all other things are distractions and propaganda. prices and wages rising do not cause inflation but rather are some of the effects of inflation. the gov and banks want people to think that inflation is caused by people and their behavior but in reality it is caused by central banks and governemnts in order to steal from their citizens.
this just proves all the lib dems incompetence when it comes to basic economics. minimum wage increases unemployment and poverty because it forces employers to discriminate against people with low skill sets. the left always claim that they are for the little guy when in reality all their policies do nothing but hurt the little guy.
raising min wage doesnt raise the wage of anyone, it simply eliminates jobs. If a cashier at mccdonalds had to get paid 20 bucks an hour we would probably see automated mccdonalds with less employees. the only way for the min wage argument to have even a little logic is if every person today got paid the min wage, but since most get paid more that proves that its not law that dictates wages.
@PharaohII ok fine, you may think that everyone deserves or should be getting paid atleast 12 an hour, but that has nothing to do with the min wage because all the min wage law does is eliminate jobs, it doesnt raise general wages. if you really want to raise the real wages of poor people you would eliminate the majority of the federal government and the federal reserve. it is the inflation tax that hits the poor the hardest. the more governemnt you get rid of the more poverty you get rid of.
@PharaohII what you are implying is dumb. you seem to think that for peoples wages to rise congress has to simply make a min wage law (unconstitutional). If this insane logic was correct then why stop at $12? why not make the min wage $100 per hour? If not then why would $100 be a bad idea but $12 would be a good one? you probably understand that min wage eliminates jobs and doesnt raise wages but you just dont know that you understand. why stop at 12? why not 100? or 1000?
@slickbtk your thinking like a greedy peckerwood! Just like these fake ass politicians. A living standard is a must. YOU CANNOT PAY RENT PUT FOOD in your CHILDRENS belly off 7.28 CENTS AN HOUR! ONTOP OF THAT KEEPING THE LIGHT GAS AND HEAT! I dont think you can think outside of your field slave mentality or suburban iron curtain. When Things such as this occur it continues a vicious cycle. Hungry children = criminals!! If you cant see this then you cannot call your self human.
@PharaohII I agree that you cannot support a family on 7.28 per hour, I agree that hungry children = criminals but what does that have to do with the fact that a min wage only eliminates jobs instead of raising wage? If you raise the min wage to $30 per hour (what you probably need to raise a family with one income) you would not raise anyones income, you would simply have massive lay offs of all the people who are currently getting paid a lot less than that. You are confused
@SuperCartiel True..and college is .Bullshit useless impractical bullshit classes ..they dont prepare for the working world..it is a crock of shit!!!..and theres no jobs anyway..u learn nothing like high school..its a fuckin money makin lie..and they fail u over bullshit..meticulous critical teachers that are assholes..your gunna need a Ph D to work in Burger King soon
@SuperCartiel that has nothing to do with a min wage law. laws dont raise wage they lower employment. And the second point I would make is to ask why do people think that everyone should have to get paid using the standard of raising a family? if you are a teenager living with your parents why should the law say that they have to make enough money to support a family? even if min wage laws did raise wages (which they dont) why should the bar be set to raising a family? most min wagers do not
@SuperCartiel if min wage was higher than you wouldnt have had that job at all. In any case the min wage should not be based on a person or family supporting themselves. what about teenagers, what about disabled people, what about dim witted people? all these people would never be able to get a job if min wage was higher, and many of these same people do not have jobs today because of the current min wage. Min wage laws are a horrible and mean thing. It discriminates against the poor
@YoungIvyScholar True..and college is .Bullshit useless impractical bullshit classes ..they dont prepare for the working world..it is a crock of shit!!!..and theres no jobs anyway..u learn nothing like high school..its a fuckin money makin lie..and they fail u over bullshit..meticulous critical teachers that are assholes..your gunna need a Ph D to work in Burger King soon..no one can live off of 10 bucks an hour..Bullshit
These knuckleheads have no idea of the consequences that come with raising the minimum wages. And Chris Dodd should be wearing an orange jump suit with a serial number on it.
@onecoolgreek because the difference in prices will be smaller than the difference in wage, as they make up a small proportion of the cost of producing the good or service. usually anyway.
Wouldn't it be ironic if obama raised the minimum wage to the point that it was more cost efficient for those women's employers to use machines of some sort instead of continuing to employ them?
Its not a scenario to be imagined because it happens all the time. Businesses automate processes when they are forced to pay above market rates by law. And that's a good thing cos it forces people to upgrade their skills in such a a way that they either learn to run the machines or to do something that machines cannot do yet. So minimum wage laws may be a blessing in disguise, but not for the reason people think.
What's more sickening: that these sleazeballs pitch minimum wage as some kind of salvation for the working class, or that America's working class is gullible enough to believe it?
HEY EVERYONE, I work a low paying job at Walgreens and I take pride in being a mediocre employee. I find it humorous when I fuck up on the job, especially in front of customers. I do the bare minimum because I know I have no chance for advancement. Please see my video "Retail Sucks" to understand why my work ethic is crappy. If I got paid more I would have a better work ethic. Why should I take my job seriously? I am not dealing with life or death or classified documents?
Raising the minimum wage is self-defeating. When workers get paid above the market worth of their labor, then prices for everyday goods goes up. Grocers must raise prices. Restaurants must raise prices, Department stores must raise prices, all to satisfy these new wage requirements. Even Landlords must raise rents to pay for the new expenses of their food and clothes bills.
Raising the minimum wage doesn't give minimum wage workers more money. It simply reduces the value of every dollar.

Stupid question - even stupider answers. I'd put it on par with the stupidity of the "evolution" question in the GOP debate.
How can you have any minimum wage? Who would pay for it? Businesses? Sure, only if they can raise prices on consumers. So if everyone is willing to pay more for less goods and services, it'll work alright.
Answer - "Do you think being president should require the same level of skills as ones at the minimum wage like making French fries? "

Minimum wage should be at least 25 dollars an hour - which would of course lead to unemployment way north of 10 or maybe even 15% - so then we need laws to force businesses to employ more people or wait, I've got a better idea - we then need MINIMUM PRICES for everything...a burger at McDonalds must cost at least $3, a pound of oranges at least $5...and so on..
I was being sarcastic of course :) Its ridiculous when politicians have to answer such questions with a straight face. Its even more ridiculous when they actually believe in the answers that they give in this video.

Sorry, you have to if you're baby boomer. If you don't work for Minimum now, they will make you to after 2012 election. Economy is a sensation to Republicans, your psychology, not your will, are very important to them. Capitalism/communism doesn't matter. Sorry, their money make all of you their natural enemies. They have no choice.
I'd increase minimum wage to TEN MILLION DOLLARS AN HOUR. These idiots on stage... let's just sit in our ivory towers and determine complex market dynamics!

Worthless question. Congress should not vote themselves pay raises, nor should they force others to increase their pay to their workers. Minimum wage only increases unemployment, since businesses ultimately have complete control over who gets paid for what. They either fire some people, stop hiring, or increase the workload of existing workers. Everything has a cost, nothing is free.
In a perfect world I'd make college free and mandatory. So then people would have the marketable skills to get a decent job.But alas, the world isn't perfect...
I used to work part time for a large paint company starting at a little more than $1.50 more than the min wage for my state. After a year of excellent performance never being counted late or absent trying hard to get full time and benefits, my review submitted by my manager was degraded by the district manager and didn't get the raise I deserved. The 'unofficial explanation' going around was min wage increases. While with the company 2 years min wage was raised about $1.40 and I got 20 cents.
increasing the minimum wage raises unemployment + drives jobs to other counries. But not having a minimum wage would be horrible for our people. We need a another solution to increase the standard of living for most americans and not increase umemployment.
Let me tell you all a little story: Let's say I have forty workers in my bussiness and I pay them $10 an hour, I'm making enough, regardless of profit, I can pay them all of the $400 an hour I'm being cost, because that's what the economic system of the market gives me. I now have to pay them $11 because I'm mandated, but I still only get $400 to pay them. What happens??? I have to layoff 4 workers to make ends meet, 36 keep their jobs. Push it up higher, I'll layoff more= higher unemployment.
@XF540: Your story is irrelevant! Most retail franchise have enough money to afford minimum wage. Besides, it isn't even that high, $7.25 an hour now. Lay me off, I will just live off the system.
I believe XF540 was referring to the state minimum wage, which in most cases, is higher than the national one (except in a couple of states which don't have one).
@mcgregwood7 Big businesses can best cope with minimum wage increases, since their economies of scale allow a smaller profit margin on each good/service, therefore minimum wage only harms small business and prevents future creation of more small businesses, as every added govt cost of labor or regulation does.
@XF540 True..and college is .Bullshit useless impractical bullshit classes ..they dont prepare for the working world..it is a crock of shit!!!..and theres no jobs anyway..u learn nothing like high school..its a fuckin money makin lie..and they fail u over bullshit..meticulous critical teachers that are assholes..your gunna need a Ph D to work in Burger King soon,,no one can live off of 10 bucks an hour..its bullshit
the minimum wage is a farce and should be done away with. Who is the government to tell a business what they should value and not to mentoin the fact that it hurts the american worker. Government needs to stay the hell OUT!!!!!
@ensignsoftware Right, and when your boss tells you he's paying you two dollars an hour and good luck finding another job in this economy, you'll be the happiest poor person because the government stayed out of your bosses business. By the way, don't you love how these politicians made a joke about their money on national TV? THEY ALL make more money than anyone i know, and if they didn't, they wouldn't be on that stage.
@MrFREEDOMRIDER1959 That assumes that making it mandatory would raise my wage rather than make me unemployed. I would love to have the government mandate a certain amount of pay if the job I work for magically increases in pay rather than become obsolete. But that's just not the case. I wouldn't love two dollars an hour--I would hate it. But the minimum wage does nothing. Also: individual purchasing power matters more than currency units. And State action has completely drowned the dollar.
@ensignsoftware: ALL YOU CONSERVATIVES are so full of shit? I have a college education, lots of experience but I was only able to get a minimum wage job bc the economy sucks. Many rich companies are so damn greedy that I could work my ass off and they would still pay me low. Man, if I were your employee and there were no minimum wage, I would steal from your company daily, and you would deserve it for not paying me well. I will try to find a better job but I still have to support myself.
Well, did you attend college for the sake of attending college? In essence, what type of degree do you have. When you chose majors, did you consider future of your field? Was it set to grow or stagnate? There are so many factors that go into determining wage.
It's not enough to say you want to earn a comfortable living or even to say you went to college. Life is more complicated than that. You have to constantly strategize to succeed.
@RavingDissension: I did major in something stupid, however, I have valuable experience from my Mil jobs (that can be applied to the civilian sector). I have worked various low wage jobs and I know that if the gov't doesn't regulate the pay, they will work you like a dog for nothing. You find many college students working these low wage jobs in order to pay for living expenses, books and various things. Time is taken away from their studies to earn money. Don't you think their time is valuable?
Keep in mind the business is not out to get you (or help you). It simply seeks to reduce costs wherever possible. I don't know the specifics of your case so I'll speak more generically.
Many low-paying jobs are such that the work required requires little to no training. A burger flipper, for example, can be trained in a day and hence, is simply not as valuable as an engineer. While there are some exceptions, wages are largely determined by the level of skill and its demand.
I've never argued for a laissez-faire approach to matter. I think the gov't has a role to play in setting at least some modicum of a standard.
However, I do think that there are legitimate arguments to be made on the other side- increasing the minimum rate to a living wage could improve the lives of some, but the side-effects include supply-side inflation and increased unemployment for the poor. Neither of these things is something to be desired.
@RavingDissension True..and college is .Bullshit useless impractical bullshit classes ..they dont prepare for the working world..it is a crock of shit!!!..and theres no jobs anyway..u learn nothing like high school..its a fuckin money makin lie..and they fail u over bullshit..meticulous critical teachers that are assholes..your gunna need a Ph D to work in Burger King soon,,no one can live off of 10 bucks an hour..its bullshit
@mcgregwood7 If I was your employer and you stole anything from me, not only would you be fired, but I'd make sure that you went to jail for it & that you were blacklisted for life. Don't like what you're being paid? Then quit & find another job. Or move to where the better jobs are. Or get a REAL education, learn an actual skill, instead of a useless lib arts education like you got, make yourself smarter & more valuable to employers. Or start your own business. That's how it's done!
@ensignsoftware If I was President, I would abolish minimum wage, osha, epa, and all other labor and environmental laws and business regulations and taxes.
i am getting 2 pennies per month on my 500 dollar deposits but you know when i used credit card of same bank and spend money they are charging ridiculously 19% INTEREST RATE PER YEAR whoa!! what is that and for what?? YOU HAVE TO PAY INSURANCE COMANIES IN ANY CONDITION OTHERWISE YOUR POLICIES WILL EXPIRED AND WHEN IT COMES TO PAY US THEY ARE APPLYING HUNDREADS OF RULES UPON US WHY?? DRUGS COMPANIES ARE CHARGING ALMOST 75% PROFIT (YES IT IS)!!! TYNELOL CAN BE MADE IN PENNIES AND YOU HAVE CONT
2 )THE MAIN PROBLEM WHY MINIMUM WAGES ARENT SUFFICIENT IS extreme PROFIT OF COMPANIES ON PRODUCTS..look around MEDICAL SYSTEMS, UNSURANCE COMPANIES, BANKS are ripping all the money from you..IN INDIA WE CAN GET INTEREST RATE OF 7%/ANUM ON OUR DEPOSITS and here BANK IS NOT PAYING SINGLE PENNY TO YOUR DEPOSITS AND WHEN IT COME TO CHARGE INTEREST RATE ON LOAN (ULTIMATELY GIVEN ON OUR DEPOSITED MONEY) THEY ARE ASKING MORE THAN 10% INTEREST RATE!!! WTF!! cont..
HEY AMERICAN FOLKS ALL YOU NEED TO CUT YOUR HIGH SPENDING THAN YOUR INCOME (applies on goverment also)..look around you INDIAN STUDENTS CAN AFFORD TO PAY THEIR FEES THEMSELVES THOUGH THEY HAVE TO PAY 5 TIMES MORE THAN FEES TO NORMAL AMERICAN CITIZENS..why it is possible for them? simple "saving" I KNOW PEOPLE KNOW US AS CHEAP BUT IT IS PROUD TO STAND ON YOUR OWN RATHER THAN CALLED OUT AS "BANKRUPT" SND IF YOU STILL THINKS WE ARE CHEAP THAN YOU ARE MORON
"Wow, Biden is blatantly lying here. He just released his 2009 tax filing. He and his wife earned $333,182 while paying $30,349 for mortgage interest; which would mean his house is probably worth around $600K assuming 5% interest rate. $70 - $150K net worth?" Bullcrap.
The only problem with the rags to riches philosophy is that number one, it assumes everyone has the ability and the resources to get to the top, and number two, it assumes that there are enough riches for everyone to have a piece of the pie.
@indigothecat Does not the avg person today have greater ability to become wealthy, given access to all the history's knowledge, than anyone even 100 years ago? It's lack of concentration and hard work that keeps people in poverty. We are all kings in comparison to the living standards of anyone 500 years ago.
@hughtub This all depends on your definition of wealthy. I believe most people can maintain a fairly decent living, while maybe not everything is readily available to them.
As far as becoming affluent and powerful, I believe that is nigh impossible for your average person to obtain, simply due to the fact that there aren't enough bigwig executive positions for everyone to have one, and again, not to mention much of it requires having the right connections, and not necessarily proper skills.
if keeping people here in the united states from earning wages like they do in china and india is "socialist" and "communist" well than paint me red and give me a hammer and syckle
@VladtheFilmmaker I agree with you on this completely. In fact STRUGGLE creates wealth. How do you suppose Steven Jobs, created the first personal computer? He was unemployed, had little money, was living in his mothers basement and by 24, he had 220,000,000 in his bank account. So my point is, feeding the fat spoiled child, America is never going to struggle and succeed. I say let thngs get WORSE! So when things are rough, the tough get going!
if things get worse, this country will turn into Nazi Germany, and that's not a joke. wealthy people might feel untouchable, but the moment those suffering in poverty (or just above it) rise up and take action, there will actually be a balance in this country that hasn't been for a long time
priove it, cite me 5 examples where it has hurt anyone let me guess "black people cant find a job at minimum wage" means nigger is to stupid to find a minimum wage job"
@nfwvideo "nigger is to stupid to find a minimum wage job" no it means young inexperienced kid is discriminated against because he has no skills and the minimum wage acts as a tariff and prices them out
@fdny9682 only problem with that is you need x ammount of people at mcdonalds at all times to make food so if you pay the young kids more owners will raise the prices a few pennies (witch i dont mind) or cut some profists to CEO's (again not a problem0 either one wont be the end of the world
@nfwvideo Mcdonalds can afford it, and may be in favor of raising it because their small "mom and pop" competition can't. So Joes burgers who has a small profit margin and Joe who has a mortgage and 2 kids will see a serious hit on his bottom line. If Joe employs 10 people at 40 hours a week an increase in One dollar on the wage costs Joe almost 20,000 dollars more a year in payroll costs. so joe lays workers off or hires illigal immigrants to bypass the law.
@fdny9682 joe's burgers as you say is a small business that recives tax breaks and credits to offset a wage hike btw most small business pay MORE than MW because they dont want constant turnover
@nfwvideo If this is true then why don't all business pay higher then minimum wage. Tax breaks, credits, your just making that up. A deli and a law firm my both be charcaterized as "small business" but we can agree that the pay scale in one is a bit different than the other. The taxes payed in california and texas are different but the minimum wage nationally is the same. Your going to see different effects in both states.
@nfwvideo I can look at IRS data and tell you the name of every individual on minimum wage but where is the data on the people who can't get a job because their skills don't warrent a minimum wage? If I have a small factory with 500 workers, at 40 hours per week, a raise of 25 cents is a quarter million dollars a year. That plus and increase in social security, mandated health benefits, and FICA is going to hurt.
@nfwvideo That tax cut dosent mean that the operations cost increased is going to cover the cost of the MW hike in every business. A tax credit is after the fact. And the comaparison to india is apples and oranges, a country just getting over a caste system may not deliver an immediate middle class. And cut the "slavery" fucking argument. Slavery waas forced servatude, if you don't like what an employer pays DONT FUCKING WORK THERE.
@nfwvideo And remember an employer is a worker too with bills to pay.. Lets say "most" small business can handle the MW. Sake of argument 80%. That 20% can represent tens of thousands of lost jobs for kids in inner cities to gain work experience. How you supposed to raise kids on minimum wage? Maybe you should have waited to have kids! Why should an employer have to suffer that burden or the young kid who not can't get work
where are these people that you say "dont warrent" how come they dont march on the streets? there talking points pal
i would ALMOST rather go back to 5 bucks an hr for minimum wage than totally abolish it, there has to be a price floor look at china, or (since china is a
" communist" ) country look at india they have no minimum wage no price floor and guess what? no middle class no standrad of living
@nfwvideo Cutting labor is one of the cost cutting measures an employer has sole control over and will do so in response to increases in gov't compensation mandates
@fdny9682 the miners are an example of "dont work there if you dont like what the company is doing" more govt regualtions would have kept them alive
@nfwvideo How far does gov't go. If gov't banned coal mining it would save lives. If govt banned driving it would save lives. I'm a fireman. I knowingly inherate risk. If government regulated to an extreme they would make the price of labor and/or a product to much.. Watch Walter Williams "the state of blacks" part 1 and 2
@fdny9682 dont "FN work there? maybe you should have told the 28 miners that died for that murder don blankenship in Va that
yea you got the right idea screw govt "RULES" dont work there if it aint safe let someone else die what right dose govt have to tell us what to do right?

Of course you haters of MW have no problem w/THAT type of injustice, do you?
cincyblows 5 months ago

Economically, it hurts the poorest of the poor to raise the minimum wage.
lsleveland72 5 months ago
@lsleveland72 I agree withv your first sentence. I agree more than not withv the second. Regarding the last sentence, would you prefer that people can't afford to support themselves?
cincyblows 5 months ago
@cincyblows I would prefer that we close our borders, enforce the immigration laws, that we not allow our government to overregulate every aspect of our lives and businesses. I would prefer that people be allowed to reap the consequences/benefits of their life choices. I would prefer that if you do immigrate to this great nation, you learn the language and assimilate to our culture instead of trying to transform it into a marxist nation because you think you are "owed" something for nothing.
lsleveland72 4 months ago
@lsleveland72 I agree with every point you made, except I support minimum wage. As I've stated repeatedly, if mw were eliminated (it won't be), then there would be a mass influx of people to the food stamp line, the fuel assistance line (natural gas and electricity), and every other welfare assistance program. The taxpayer would then be saddled with an insane tax burden. It's because I'm conservative that I support mw -at least when the unemployment rate is in the double digits.
cincyblows 4 months ago
@cincyblows Do you also support minimum wage for farm workers?
lsleveland72 4 months ago
@lsleveland72 That depends. Are you referring to seasonal work, or year-round mantainance?
cincyblows 4 months ago
@cincyblows What does it matter if one is trying to earn a "living" wage whether or not it is seasonal work? You know why we don't find it important to pay minimum wage to farm workers? Because our food costs would skyrocket and we can employ tons of illegal aliens to do that work. Companies will pass their operating costs off to customers. So less people going out to eat means fewer employees at McDonalds making mw., means more people on food stamps and out of work.
lsleveland72 3 months ago
@BSANONYMOUS Impose rent control, and watch neighborhoods turn to slums. In many cases, holding down rents makes it impossible for landlords to justify spending money on repairs and maintenance. Buildings fall apart, and housing becomes more scarce. As for MW, why not let the unemployed who are willing to work for less do so? MW makes that illegal, and thus does the most damage to the people that MW supporters believe they're helping. I want to help them too, which is why I oppose MW.
dbmasta 6 months ago
totally pointless, less than 5% of the population works for minimum wage and if you can't move past that for your whole life, there is probably something wrong with you
packerfan748 6 months ago
@iwustudent101 Eliminating MW might lead to more jobs at first, but that only means more people will have to be covered by workman's comp. That can't be good for the ol' profit margin.
cincyblows 6 months ago
This is pretty simple. If michele Bachmann (and others) had their way and min wage were eliminated, then many more millions of workers would have to go on welfare -and aren't those who push for min wage elimination already bitching about entitlement programs at the taxpayers' expense? I like some of Bachmann's ideas, but this one is entirely stupid.

pureaggression 6 months ago
@pureaggression Gee, thanks for that highly rational response. With your batshit craziness, I'll assume you're a Ron Paul supporter. Or is that Ru Paul?
cincyblows 6 months ago
@cincyblows Ron Paul understands economics. He understands that the Great Depression was prolonged by the Fed's failure to address inflation, Hoover's tax increase, and the Smoot-Hawley Tarriff Act. Only 2.5% of workers over 25 years old are on minimum wage. Minimum wage is a problem for teenagers who have a current unemployment rate of 25.5%. No minimum wage would allow more teenagers to work low skill jobs and make money. And with teenagers you would not need to worry about workers comp.
JasonCIAHudson 5 months ago
@JasonCIAHudson The US Dept.of Labor disagrees with your assumption that most MW workers are teens who don't support themselves.
cincyblows 5 months ago
@cincyblows "Minimum wage workers tend to be young. Although workers under age 25 represented only about one-fifth of hourly-paid workers, they made up half of those paid the Federal minimum wage or less. Among employed teenagers paid by the hour, about 11 percent earned the minimum wage or less, compared with about 2 percent of workers ager 25 and over."
That's directly from the Bureau of Labor statistics.
JasonCIAHudson 5 months ago
@JasonCIAHudson "Contrary to popular opinion, the average worker affected by an increase in the minimum wage is not just a teenager flipping hamburgers. Only one in fourteen is a teenage student from a family with above average earnings.
The fact is, almost two-thirds of minimum wage workers are adults, and four in ten are the sole bread winner of their family."
Source -US Department of Labor, Office of The Secretary

@cincyblows That statistic is fourteen years old. My statistic listed above is updated in 2008.
JasonCIAHudson 5 months ago
@JasonCIAHudson You'd have to take that statistic up with the US Department of Labor. I've seen these types of statistics for years. They don't change significantly (significance level = 5%) very much or very often. You were saying?
cincyblows 5 months ago
@cincyblows That statistic was used in 1996 as an arguement to increase minimum wage. You don't find any other statistic supporting that claim in recent years. The most recent data shows that is not the case today. And I site data not only from the Department of Labor but from the Employement Policies Institute.

I'm used to people like you who sit on their asses all day doing nothing but barking out orders to those who actually work. Then, on payday, the workers get zilch.
cincyblows 5 months ago

Wages go up 1$ a year if you're lucky, but everything else almost doubles in price (gas, food, shelter.)
ganj0r 8 months ago
$986 dollars a month full time after taxes. House payment or rent is easily 500 dollars a month... thats 486 dollars to support a family? What about food, electricity, and other needs. Gas cost average person $40 a week.$160 dollars gone there.
Senator Chris said he has two daughters and could not afford to LIVE in minimum wage. What about minimum wage people who have kids... they cannot live.

MrLittletomdj 9 months ago
Money belongs to the central banking system. Any money they manufacture is loaned with interest attached. Ultimately (as there is no other money produced) that interest can only be repaid by more loans from the CBS. This is perpetual debt & it is the reason why the world is enslaved to banking corporations. Min wage has no lasting relevance in a flawed system designed to inflate. The monetary system is corrupt & there's no point in asking for help from the 1% who profit from that system.
MrLittletomdj 9 months ago
minium wage decreases jobs and increases goverment spending, in an economic crisis can we really afford it
toberses11 9 months ago
@nfwvideo1 The companies must take full responsibility for their employee's health and well-being. The government must simply monitor those actions. As for child labor, government has to intervene and intercede whenever possible.
SuperCartiel 9 months ago
These people have no basic understanding of economics. Enforcing a minimum wage will destroy jobs and raise prices.
If a business makes $50 profit / hour and the minimum wage is $10, it can afford to hire 5 employees. If you force the minimum wage up to $11, how many people can the business afford to hire?

@BSANONYMOUS well, take this into consideration, since you are so smart. if minimum wage is doubled, the cost of labour is doubled. the cost of products will increase significantly, the purchasing power of one dollar is decreased significantly, massive inflation is incurred, and doubling wages did nothing but inflate the dollar and cause unemployment in the short run.

Increasing minimum wage increases inflation
EllaBelle18 11 months ago
@EllaBelle18 incorrect. nothing creates inflation except for the expanding of the money supply. all other things are distractions and propaganda. prices and wages rising do not cause inflation but rather are some of the effects of inflation. the gov and banks want people to think that inflation is caused by people and their behavior but in reality it is caused by central banks and governemnts in order to steal from their citizens.
slickbtk 10 months ago
this just proves all the lib dems incompetence when it comes to basic economics. minimum wage increases unemployment and poverty because it forces employers to discriminate against people with low skill sets. the left always claim that they are for the little guy when in reality all their policies do nothing but hurt the little guy.
anryth 11 months ago
raising min wage doesnt raise the wage of anyone, it simply eliminates jobs. If a cashier at mccdonalds had to get paid 20 bucks an hour we would probably see automated mccdonalds with less employees. the only way for the min wage argument to have even a little logic is if every person today got paid the min wage, but since most get paid more that proves that its not law that dictates wages.
slickbtk 11 months ago
@slickbtk LOL AT MINIMUM WAGE!! we need a living wage... no less then 12 dollars an hour!!!
PharaohII 10 months ago
@PharaohII ok fine, you may think that everyone deserves or should be getting paid atleast 12 an hour, but that has nothing to do with the min wage because all the min wage law does is eliminate jobs, it doesnt raise general wages. if you really want to raise the real wages of poor people you would eliminate the majority of the federal government and the federal reserve. it is the inflation tax that hits the poor the hardest. the more governemnt you get rid of the more poverty you get rid of.
slickbtk 10 months ago
@PharaohII what you are implying is dumb. you seem to think that for peoples wages to rise congress has to simply make a min wage law (unconstitutional). If this insane logic was correct then why stop at $12? why not make the min wage $100 per hour? If not then why would $100 be a bad idea but $12 would be a good one? you probably understand that min wage eliminates jobs and doesnt raise wages but you just dont know that you understand. why stop at 12? why not 100? or 1000?

PharaohII 10 months ago
@PharaohII I agree that you cannot support a family on 7.28 per hour, I agree that hungry children = criminals but what does that have to do with the fact that a min wage only eliminates jobs instead of raising wage? ab1tchslap 1 year ago
@ab1tchslap

Worthless question. Congress should not vote themselves pay raises, nor should they force others to increase their pay to their workers. Minimum wage only increases unemployment, since businesses ultimately have complete control over who gets paid for what. They either fire some people, stop hiring, or increase the workload of existing workers. Everything has a cost, nothing is free.
hughtub 1 year ago
In a perfect world I'd make college free and mandatory. So then people would have the marketable skills to get a decent job.But alas, the world isn't perfect...
aoishounen 1 year ago
@aoishounen Nothing is free dumbass. The only way to make college free would be to get professors to work for nothing. Never gonna happen.

TheEpisteme 1 year ago
increasing the minimum wage raises unemployment + drives jobs to other counries. But not having a minimum wage would be horrible for our people. We need a another solution to increase the standard of living for most americans and not increase umemployment.
ironmantis25 1 year ago
Let me tell you all a little story: Let's say I have forty workers in my bussiness and I pay them $10 an hour, I'm making enough, regardless of profit, I can pay them all of the $400 an hour I'm being cost, because that's what the economic system of the market gives me. I now have to pay them $11 because I'm mandated, but I still only get $400 to pay them. What happens??? I have to layoff 4 workers to make ends meet, 36 keep their jobs. Push it up higher, I'll layoff more= higher unemployment.
XF540 1 year ago
@XF540: Your story is irrelevant! Most retail franchise have enough money to afford minimum wage. Besides, it isn't even that high, $7.25 an hour now. Lay me off, I will just live off the system.
mcgregwood7 1 year ago
@mcgregwood7
I believe XF540 was referring to the state minimum wage, which in most cases, is higher than the national one (except in a couple of states which don't have one).
RavingDissension 1 year ago
@mcgregwood7 Big businesses can best cope with minimum wage increases, since their economies of scale allow a smaller profit margin on each good/service, therefore minimum wage only harms small business and prevents future creation of more small businesses, as every added govt cost of labor or regulation does.

the minimum wage is a farce and should be done away with. Who is the government to tell a business what they should value and not to mentoin the fact that it hurts the american worker. Government needs to stay the hell OUT!!!!!
ensignsoftware 1 year ago
@ensignsoftware Right, and when your boss tells you he's paying you two dollars an hour and good luck finding another job in this economy, you'll be the happiest poor person because the government stayed out of your bosses business. By the way, don't you love how these politicians made a joke about their money on national TV? THEY ALL make more money than anyone i know, and if they didn't, they wouldn't be on that stage.
xtremelink 1 year ago
@xtremelink Why are most people paid above the minimum wage? Oh, right, of course. Your argument is flawed.
SaviorOfLogic 1 year ago
@ensignsoftware remember that next time u are offered overtime pay (govt stay out dont make ot pay manditory)
MrFREEDOMRIDER1959 1 year ago
@MrFREEDOMRIDER1959 That assumes that making it mandatory would raise my wage rather than make me unemployed. I would love to have the government mandate a certain amount of pay if the job I work for magically increases in pay rather than become obsolete. But that's just not the case. I wouldn't love two dollars an hour--I would hate it. But the minimum wage does nothing. Also: individual purchasing power matters more than currency units. And State action has completely drowned the dollar.
Nellsing 1 year ago
@ensignsoftware: ALL YOU CONSERVATIVES are so full of shit? I have a college education, lots of experience but I was only able to get a minimum wage job bc the economy sucks. Many rich companies are so damn greedy that I could work my ass off and they would still pay me low. Man, if I were your employee and there were no minimum wage, I would steal from your company daily, and you would deserve it for not paying me well. I will try to find a better job but I still have to support myself.
mcgregwood7 1 year ago
@mcgregwood7
RavingDissension 1 year ago
@RavingDissension: I did major in something stupid, however, I have valuable experience from my Mil jobs (that can be applied to the civilian sector). I have worked various low wage jobs and I know that if the gov't doesn't regulate the pay, they will work you like a dog for nothing. You find many college students working these low wage jobs in order to pay for living expenses, books and various things. Time is taken away from their studies to earn money. Don't you think their time is valuable?
mcgregwood7 1 year ago
@mcgregwood7

2)
I've never argued for a laissez-faire approach to matter. I think the gov't has a role to play in setting at least some modicum of a standard.
However, I do think that there are legitimate arguments to be made on the other side- increasing the minimum rate to a living wage could improve the lives of some, but the side-effects include supply-side inflation and increased unemployment for the poor. Neither of these things is something to be desired.

The only problem with the rags to riches philosophy is that number one, it assumes everyone has the ability and the resources to get to the top, and number two, it assumes that there are enough riches for everyone to have a piece of the pie.
indigothecat 1 year ago 2
@indigothecat Does not the avg person today have greater ability to become wealthy, given access to all the history's knowledge, than anyone even 100 years ago? It's lack of concentration and hard work that keeps people in poverty. We are all kings in comparison to the living standards of anyone 500 years ago.
hughtub 1 year ago
@hughtub This all depends on your definition of wealthy. I believe most people can maintain a fairly decent living, while maybe not everything is readily available to them.
As far as becoming affluent and powerful, I believe that is nigh impossible for your average person to obtain, simply due to the fact that there aren't enough bigwig executive positions for everyone to have one, and again, not to mention much of it requires having the right connections, and not necessarily proper skills.

VladtheFilmmaker 1 year ago
@VladtheFilmmaker I agree with you on this completely. In fact STRUGGLE creates wealth. How do you suppose Steven Jobs, created the first personal computer? He was unemployed, had little money, was living in his mothers basement and by 24, he had 220,000,000 in his bank account. So my point is, feeding the fat spoiled child, America is never going to struggle and succeed. I say let thngs get WORSE! So when things are rough, the tough get going!
Statspoilizie 1 year ago
if things get worse, this country will turn into Nazi Germany, and that's not a joke. wealthy people might feel untouchable, but the moment those suffering in poverty (or just above it) rise up and take action, there will actually be a balance in this country that hasn't been for a long time

priove it, cite me 5 examples where it has hurt anyone let me guess "black people cant find a job at minimum wage" means nigger is to stupid to find a minimum wage job"
nfwvideo 1 year ago
@nfwvideo "nigger is to stupid to find a minimum wage job" no it means young inexperienced kid is discriminated against because he has no skills and the minimum wage acts as a tariff and prices them out
fdny9682 1 year ago
@fdny9682 only problem with that is you need x ammount of people at mcdonalds at all times to make food so if you pay the young kids more owners will raise the prices a few pennies (witch i dont mind) or cut some profists to CEO's (again not a problem0 either one wont be the end of the world
nfwvideo 1 year ago
@nfwvideo Mcdonalds can afford it, and may be in favor of raising it because their small "mom and pop" competition can't. So Joes burgers who has a small profit margin and Joe who has a mortgage and 2 kids will see a serious hit on his bottom line. If Joe employs 10 people at 40 hours a week an increase in One dollar on the wage costs Joe almost 20,000 dollars more a year in payroll costs. so joe lays workers off or hires illigal immigrants to bypass the law.
fdny9682 1 year ago
@fdny9682 joe's burgers as you say is a small business that recives tax breaks and credits to offset a wage hike btw most small business pay MORE than MW because they dont want constant turnover
nfwvideo 1 year ago

That plus and increase in social security, mandated health benefits, and FICA is going to hurt.
fdny9682 1 year ago
@fdny9682 FACT the last MW hike had tax breaks for small business look it up
@fdny9682 dont warrent the lowest pay allowed by law? maybe slavery should become an option.
nfwvideo 1 year ago
@nfwvideo That tax cut dosent mean that the operations cost increased is going to cover the cost of the MW hike in every business. A tax credit is after the fact. And the comaparison to india is apples and oranges, a country just getting over a caste system may not deliver an immediate middle class. And cut the "slavery" fucking argument. Slavery waas forced servatude, if you don't like what an employer pays DONT FUCKING WORK THERE.
fdny9682 1 year ago
@nfwvideo And remember an employer is a worker too with bills to pay.. Lets say "most" small business can handle the MW. Sake of argument 80%. That 20% can represent tens of thousands of lost jobs for kids in inner cities to gain work experience. How you supposed to raise kids on minimum wage? Maybe you should have waited to have kids! Why should an employer have to suffer that burden or the young kid who not can't get work
fdny9682 1 year ago
@fdny9682
where are these people that you say "dont warrent" how come they dont march on the streets? there talking points pal
i would ALMOST rather go back to 5 bucks an hr for minimum wage than totally abolish it, there has to be a price floor look at china, or (since china is a
" communist" ) country look at india they have no minimum wage no price floor and guess what? no middle class no standrad of living
