.if no dirt then you have to go deeper than dirt.i had not open my comp since i bought it in 2003.like john said we lucked out cause our comps did not not fry!!good luck you all.take care john.A
to everyone reading this post i will say and i know john will agree is dont go crazy deleting programs or buying any hardware or software that you think is going to take care of this problem.just reserve 2 hours of your time and open your comp and you will see how much dirt have atached to your power supply and heat sink fans over the years
i like your idea better.i just finished cleaning my computer and i used a vac cause dust flying around and inside circuit board its murder for the computer..i also used a small tooth brush to loosen up dust in both fans ..
Hi Aynamaok, ..I'd forgotten about this post until I got an email today..
It just so happed by coincidence I cleaned my new video card from a lot of dust that had built up in just 2 months. It was making a real racket when switched on. I was about to take it back under warranty but after the clean it seems to have fixed the problem.
hey john..after puting up with the noisy fan or what i thought was a bad hard drive because of bad advice from a well meaning but misinformed group of individuals i finally took it upon myself to open my computer and perform surgery myself..
ask me a question you think this guy might know and i will more likely than not answer it correctly remember a question this guy will probably know or maybe just a little above his level

denidude1 1 month ago in playlist Computer Maintenance Tips
dude, get a case with an air filter, they cost maybe 60 bucks and its great for keeping dust out, also, put filters on your fans, makes stuff easy.

U need to block the fans from moving when using compressed air. U can damage the motor of the fan when u don't. Just a small tip.

Dust becomes thickly matted after a while on many computers. Stronger action is required.
Remove the fan off the cpu heat sink {4 screws}
Use pointy attachment on home vac and small brush to loosen dust and vac away.
Compressed air can force the dust mat further into the heatsink or over other components although it is possibly ok for very light dust build up
