It is either proof that O'Reilly has some sort of self-irony, or that he has lost all touch with reality. Though there is things that could suggest the second option, I still lean towards the first.

I remember watching on Countdown with Keith Olbermann that some conservatives were so stupid they believed that Colbert was being serious. essentially... and Stephen Colbert is his actual name, but it's also a character he made up, sort of an alter-ego if you will, and the alter-ego is based mainly on o'reilly (though he mostly makes fun of his own views by making them just seem completely outrageous)
