@Nixenji you can buy glasses that make a 3D movie look like a normal movie. Just google 2D glasses and go to the first site to buy them. You don't want to have to wait til it comes to DVD :)
OH MY GOD 4:30 is hilarious! When they're are wrapped in spider cacoons yelling, "yay!" This is why I want to be in the movie business, you get to be apart of an amazing experience like this!
Ugh god why 3D... 3D should never have gotten this popular, but then again, neither should have Taco Bell. People notoriously have bad taste for the most random things. I prefer 2D, no headache, and seeing everything sharp and as you would see it in real life, which is STILL more comparable to 2D than 3D. 3D became big the moment the theaters/studios realized that droves of people would pay extra money for their "fancy glasses", along with other technology to see things in 3D. Boo 3D.
just from what these four video blogs show i expect this movie to blow minds... and hopefully win all the oscars, because it looks like there was more care put into this than anything else.
@GhostPonyHome No, go see it in 2D there will be a beautiful digital 2D version released right along with the 3D version, like all other "3D" films, why am I seeing so many people saying this?
@Core1138 I only asked because I couldn't find anything that said otherwise. Studios and directors are drooling over 3D but never seem to talk about 2D and those with vision impairments. Not as exciting I suppose. Thanks for the info.
Could be a dragon or orcs. But i';m willing to bet it is elves.Racial conflict.???
I've got a feeling there will be deeper meaning tot he conflicts between the middleearth races. The dwarves have a ture hatred for the elven kin.It will play out much more emotionally than in the book. It;s going to make us feel the emotion later on when the iconic event plays out.We will empathise witht he dwarves deeply.Armitage will make us care about the dwarven culture more.!.
I am really looking forward to see what peter jackson can do with the budget of the whole LOTR trilogy for EACH Hobbit movie! $500M is quite a big production, probably the biggest ever, even beating the second/third Pirates of Caribbean films!
As a prospective filmmaker, I'm looking at all the 3D stuff that has to be done to make the film excellent and going..."Oh, Lord, what am I getting myself into??" And yet I'm also very excited about the idea at the same time. I love what can be done with film now and the prospect of the stories that can be brought to the screen make me as excited as a shopaholic on Black Friday.
@LolaInDreamland i dont think so i think its like the begining when his uncle first discovered or took the ring from gollum and remember in the first movie he had been writing in his book that is his story
OMG! I do own those red-and-blue 3D glasses and those images that they showed in the end actually worked. Of course, I connected my browser to my HDMI TV so the result was pretty spectacular.
@the88mph 24 fps was/is the standard for cinema, while soap operas are filmed with cheaper cameras which shoot 30 fps. This 6 fps difference is quite noticeable and often called the "soap opera effect." the higher 48 that this will be filmed in wont be available in all theaters so its not a big deal, and you can turn off jutter adjustment on most home tv's to bring it back to true 24p cinema.
@KriegerKrieg 30 frames is an interlaced format and is the standard video field rate per second for NTSC television (e.g. in the US), whether from a broadcast signal, DVD, or home camcorder. I dont understand how seeing a frame rate that gives you no motion blur and seamless image is bad (and 48 looks a hellovalot better then 30 i can tell you that for sure) please explain how this is a bad thing?
@the88mph Video gamers asking for higher frame rates in every piece of video must understand that synthetic-image-based video games differ widely from live action movies/TV series. High frame rates are OK for video games (visual feedback) and sports (motion fluidity), but not necessarily for movies/TV series.
If the Soap Opera Effect (SOE) were liked by viewers, TV series would have decades being produced with SOE built-in, since it's cheaper to produce than film-looking video.
@the88mph Here's a good paper about the difference between the "film look" and the "soap opera effect" (It's more complex than just frame rate): The Film Look: It's Not Just Jerky Motion… bbc.co.uk/rd/publications/whitepaper053.shtml
For instance: I have never been playing a video game and gone "This frame rate is way to high, i wish this game would give me 10 fps, that would be much better"
@the88mph As a gamer I totally agree with the more the better. I don't really feel like arguing the fact, but you are right NTSC is 60i which is 30 frames interlaced. People with a keen eye will notice the difference between a video displayed at 24p vs 30p. The 48 fps peter jackson is filming in will seem more realistic, somewhat like watching something filmed on an ordinary camcorder, 48 converts to 24p easily and is aesthetically preferred by most directors, while not as forgiving in action.
@KriegerKrieg I enjoy the debate, but i still would say in action it is where its the most useful, the thing with peter jackson tolkien movies so far is that he has had pretty much everything constructed and made to minute details. i think the attention to detail will give the feel of immersion combined with a fast frame rate, i agree that it doesnt work on films that arent as polished as one such as this, but i think it will only add to the immersion. agree to disagree i say
I've always seen 3D like action movies as a lame gimmick, but it looks like with the Hobbit, they are really trying to bring out the full potential of 3D in a more effective way.
