  • 1am. Just one more video....

  • i freaking hate 3d, whhhyyyy peter jackson, whhyyyy. What a headache

  • YAYAYA Had the old school glasses!

  • NOOOOOO, NOT 3D!!!!!!!!

  • WOWOWOOWOWOW that picture was truly awesome!

  • God, I hope they show it in regular too. I can't see 3D and I know lots of others who can't. :(

  • @Nixenji you can buy glasses that make a 3D movie look like a normal movie. Just google 2D glasses and go to the first site to buy them. You don't want to have to wait til it comes to DVD :)

  • @bullet4myex Wow, I'll have to try that and see how it works. :D

  • for those of you out there who do like 3D, don't worry. the movie will also be presented in 2D for other theaters. they do it all the time.

  • i hate 3D. It ruins a film.

  • @AustinMV10 Then dont see it in 3D. Its also in 2D

  • @Squadwin only if your local movie theatre has enough screens to show both versions

  • Is it me or is Peter Jackson getting a bit fatter with every blog? He did so well losing weight, it would suck for him to be gaining it back again.

  • 2:32 Gandalf with his 3D glasses looks so cool!

  • Whoa! John, Paul, George and Ringo! :D

  • I don't like 3D. But for this, I'll give it a try!

  • Generally I don't like 3D, but I trust that Jackson knows what he's doing!

  • @Enraged10 that's what people said about colour..

  • @sejemandhaha Did I say something negative about 3D? No? Okay, so keep your idiot proclaiming twolast dots to yourself.

  • why so much dwarves? I wanna see more elves!

  • Don't care for 3D, but was still some interesting stuff.

  • 02:30 Gandalf and his 3D glasses

  • OH MY GOD 4:30 is hilarious! When they're are wrapped in spider cacoons yelling, "yay!" This is why I want to be in the movie business, you get to be apart of an amazing experience like this!

  • Is Elijah Wood gonna cameo??

  • @StreetlightEagle Yes. Orlando Bloom will also have a cameo.

  • They're not gonna bring this movie for 3d only right? If so.....

  • "If I had the ability to"

Dammit Jackson don't start sounding like Lucas because next thing you know you'll be going back and spoiling a damn fine trilogy.

  • 3D, no.

    IMAX, yes.

  • I'm gunna go read the book again

  • Ugh god why 3D... 3D should never have gotten this popular, but then again, neither should have Taco Bell. People notoriously have bad taste for the most random things. I prefer 2D, no headache, and seeing everything sharp and as you would see it in real life, which is STILL more comparable to 2D than 3D. 3D became big the moment the theaters/studios realized that droves of people would pay extra money for their "fancy glasses", along with other technology to see things in 3D. Boo 3D.

  • btw ... who plays prince brand? wasn't he shooting smaug to death?

  • @LeDiggyP

Luke Evans , Yes he did

  • that sounds really lazy Bilbo!; 'you don't need me to do much?'

  • 00:44... Merry and Pippin!!!

  • Thumbs up if u actually read the book

  • @mrbignacy Read it and loved it! Can't wait for this!

  • @mrbignacy i havent, but i want to now :P

  • watching this.. then after, watch the real trailer.. AMAZING..

  • going to be one of the most epic additions to an already epic series

  • i hate 3d but lotr is gonna kickass i hope they make it in super HD for the pc/dvd users

  • just from what these four video blogs show i expect this movie to blow minds... and hopefully win all the oscars, because it looks like there was more care put into this than anything else.

  • Too much indoor filming for my liking... Oh the glory of the shooting at mountains and lush green meadows....

  • @Krenisphia I totally agree, but shooting in the great outdoors is quite expensive.

  • @Krenisphia there will be locations like that.

  • Well, you are lucky, since 3D is much better now then for 5 years ago.

  • 3D... that means those of us with eye problems like double vision will be out of luck then eh?

  • @GhostPonyHome No, go see it in 2D there will be a beautiful digital 2D version released right along with the 3D version, like all other "3D" films, why am I seeing so many people saying this?

  • @Core1138 I only asked because I couldn't find anything that said otherwise. Studios and directors are drooling over 3D but never seem to talk about 2D and those with vision impairments. Not as exciting I suppose. Thanks for the info.

  • It's not fair. Now we have to wait for 1 year!!

  • OMG is it going to be 3D too?! Fucking A! I will have the worst fucking headache, but OMG.

  • I had chills through the whole 'announcement trailer' this is going to be amazing!

  • SO DARN EXCITED!!! XD but I can't stop seeing Watson when Freeman is Bilbo...XD lol.

  • Dont stop with the Bloggs.... There the best!!!!!!!! Just makes me so excited will definitely see it at-least 3 times!!!!!!!!

  • SO much to speculate from 8:22.

Could be a dragon or orcs. But i';m willing to bet it is elves.Racial conflict.???

I've got a feeling there will be deeper meaning tot he conflicts between the middleearth races. The dwarves have a ture hatred for the elven kin.It will play out much more emotionally than in the book. It;s going to make us feel the emotion later on when the iconic event plays out.We will empathise witht he dwarves deeply.Armitage will make us care about the dwarven culture more.!.

  • 8:22 Looks EPIC>!

Thorin:Shit he looks pissed.Intense as Hell.!

Kili.:Looks like he is tryiong to puit on the brave face for his uncle (Thorin) and dwarven pride.

Fili:Is like an expert ninja he;s ready to fuck something up.He is a bit more calm about it though.

Dwalin:Seems to be The protector or bodyguard of Thorin.Notice he runs straight to Thorin.

Ori:Bumbling dwarf is having trouble pulling out his sword.lol

Nori:He;s seems to be swinging something around.

  • Dori:Like a sneak he slithers his way to avoid danger lol.

Oin:He;s like get behind me Bilbo.Let the old timer show you hopw it;s done.lol

Gloin:He's like a lionheart as true to Gimli as ever.Brave and tough as nails, Hew tenses.

Bombur:Bumbling fatty He;s pulls bifur in to get out the way.lol

Bifur:It it me or is that axe in his head making him slow in the head, lol

Bofur:Is worried about Bilbo.Selfless act on his behalf.

Thorin again:Hatred for elves all over his face.He is ready to kill them.

  • I wonder what they think of Skyrim?

  • "The human eye sees 60 frames per second". Common misconception. Studies have shown that human eyes can detect over 300 fps, even much more.

  • PJ's looking a little rotund

  • I need to stop watching theses... -_- IM GETTING TO PUMPED!!!!!!!

  • Did PJ say "clumbersome"?

  • @SimeonS93 I trust him with my whole heart, shame on you for not having faith

  • Is that Frodo at 2:36?

  • *nerdgasm* can't wait!!!

  • I am really looking forward to see what peter jackson can do with the budget of the whole LOTR trilogy for EACH Hobbit movie! $500M is quite a big production, probably the biggest ever, even beating the second/third Pirates of Caribbean films!

    This SHOULD be good!

  • As a prospective filmmaker, I'm looking at all the 3D stuff that has to be done to make the film excellent and going..."Oh, Lord, what am I getting myself into??" And yet I'm also very excited about the idea at the same time. I love what can be done with film now and the prospect of the stories that can be brought to the screen make me as excited as a shopaholic on Black Friday.

  • this whole series has 0 dislikes :)

  • @miles9538 You made someone dislike every. Fuck you.

  • love that they named cameras after the Beatles :D

  • 9:55. Alan Lee and John Howe sitting side by side wearing old school red and blue 3D glases was absolutely priceless!!!

  • teaser trailer on Christmas ? i can't wait !!!!

  • He acts and talks just like Ian Holm's Bilbo! This is going to be perfect!

  • 9:45 for the 3D Artwork (AMAZING)

  • was frodo there???

  • @LolaInDreamland i dont think so i think its like the begining when his uncle first discovered or took the ring from gollum and remember in the first movie he had been writing in his book that is his story

  • please dont be december 21, 2012.

  • hahah so cool seeing bombur with 3D glasses on!

  • OMG! I do own those red-and-blue 3D glasses and those images that they showed in the end actually worked. Of course, I connected my browser to my HDMI TV so the result was pretty spectacular.

  • im going to smoke so much pipe weed when i go out to see this in theaters

  • 02:33 Gandalf:

    DEAL WITH IT.

  • I dont know how I feel about the 48 fps, the soap opera effect I feel takes away from that warm 24 fps I am used to.

  • @KriegerKrieg Soap opera, explain?

  • @the88mph 24 fps was/is the standard for cinema, while soap operas are filmed with cheaper cameras which shoot 30 fps. This 6 fps difference is quite noticeable and often called the "soap opera effect." the higher 48 that this will be filmed in wont be available in all theaters so its not a big deal, and you can turn off jutter adjustment on most home tv's to bring it back to true 24p cinema.

  • @KriegerKrieg 30 frames is an interlaced format and is the standard video field rate per second for NTSC television (e.g. in the US), whether from a broadcast signal, DVD, or home camcorder. I dont understand how seeing a frame rate that gives you no motion blur and seamless image is bad (and 48 looks a hellovalot better then 30 i can tell you that for sure) please explain how this is a bad thing?

  • @the88mph Video gamers asking for higher frame rates in every piece of video must understand that synthetic-image-based video games differ widely from live action movies/TV series. High frame rates are OK for video games (visual feedback) and sports (motion fluidity), but not necessarily for movies/TV series.

If the Soap Opera Effect (SOE) were liked by viewers, TV series would have decades being produced with SOE built-in, since it's cheaper to produce than film-looking video.

  • @the88mph Here's a good paper about the difference between the "film look" and the "soap opera effect" (It's more complex than just frame rate): The Film Look: It's Not Just Jerky Motion… bbc.co.uk/rd/publications/whitepaper053.shtml

  • For instance: I have never been playing a video game and gone "This frame rate is way to high, i wish this game would give me 10 fps, that would be much better"

  • @the88mph As a gamer I totally agree with the more the better. I don't really feel like arguing the fact, but you are right NTSC is 60i which is 30 frames interlaced. People with a keen eye will notice the difference between a video displayed at 24p vs 30p. The 48 fps peter jackson is filming in will seem more realistic, somewhat like watching something filmed on an ordinary camcorder, 48 converts to 24p easily and is aesthetically preferred by most directors, while not as forgiving in action.

  • @KriegerKrieg I enjoy the debate, but i still would say in action it is where its the most useful, the thing with peter jackson tolkien movies so far is that he has had pretty much everything constructed and made to minute details. i think the attention to detail will give the feel of immersion combined with a fast frame rate, i agree that it doesnt work on films that arent as polished as one such as this, but i think it will only add to the immersion. agree to disagree i say

  • what i have saw cannot be unseen.

holiday of 2012 is too long!

  • Just shooting in 4-5K is actually better than shooting 3D in 5K. Having seen what an image on a 4K monitor looks like, then 3D just looks weird..

  • Did anyone else's mind get blown by the two artists drawing side-by-side masterpieces?

  • @TimPhoto91 I was mind blown when I put on my 3D glasses.

  • Soo...Fucking...Stoked for this

  • lmao at Gandalf wearing the 3D glasses...

I've always seen 3D like action movies as a lame gimmick, but it looks like with the Hobbit, they are really trying to bring out the full potential of 3D in a more effective way.

  • I can't wait...

  • powerful pencil! O_O 8:34

  • thanks!!

  • wow! I'm in Love!
