I don't think it is a fake accent. His accent is very true to the Charleston area of South Carolina. And I for one and extremely proud he has it. Your problem is that you're categorizing people. If you watch SA's other work, you'd see that him and other meaningful conservatives and libertarians are individualist and absolutely resent grouping people into race and religion.
