The knot on the jacket should be vertical not sideway as it might tangle up with the sleeve or sword handle. The little tab in the back piece should be tuck under the belt in the back so the back piece stay on top of the belt. Keenku2b forgot to put it in.

because i do seitei iaido and the method of wearing the gi also involves putting on an obi before putting on the hakama.

True, but you still tie the hakama just about the same except for the knot in the front (sometimes)
