This is just a brilliant song with flawless execution. Man, St Nicholas and Edmonton were an awesome rhythm section. What a groove. Impossible to not tap your foot. And Byrom with killer tone and John singing like a rocker should. Makes me really disgusted with all the ham and eggers out there with greater notariety. At 70 years old these guys would still outdo most of what I hear on the radio save a few great bands (Kings of Leon).

What I liked about Steppenwolf Live was how it was mixed. It had the keyboards on one side, the guitar on the other. Drums and vocals were in the middle. I wish engineers would record music like that again because it makes the sound more "live".

I don't think the song shows contempt for audiences or groupies at all. It just expresses the boredom of touring in the heartland, where the towns all look the same if you're just passing through on tour. Kay says of the girl, "good to know your smiling face was here" - nothing nasty about that at all.

I saw them with Pacific, Gas and Electric when I was like 10. My dad let me and my friend go.

They showed up 2 hours late...

I was really bummed as a kid.

I was super mad at them!

I clearly remember that show for some reason.

They had like a fake hanging and weird shit going on waiting for them. Hippies and pot smoking.

Nobody bothered us.

They played for like for 30 minutes.

Of course I became a musician and showed up late too. But I got beat up and not paid!
