I think before dealing with the marriages of these young teenagers, first the sex-outside-marriage, AND underage, in public schools, should be dealt with. I think before dealing with the marriages of these young teenagers, first the sex-outside-marriage, AND underage, in public schools, should be dealt with. The government controls public schools, where a great proportion of girls have sex, being under the legal age for it (16-18). If the government can not even fix what it controls (public schools), how is it going to fix these mormons? At least these girls marry, and stay married for life. The raid would harm faiths indirectly if the PURPOSE for the raid had been RELIGION. The purpose for the raid was not based on their religion, it was based on CHILD ABUSE. Religious Freedom is not so broad that it includes the harming of others to practice one's religion.

Taking home drunk women from clubs is not equatable to polygamy for a few reasons.
1) You don't marry the girl (most cases)
2) In general Consent from both parties is present, which isn't always the case with polygamy. Obviously rapes occur, which need to be prosecuted.
3) As long as there is consent from both parties & no illegal acts are committed then its ok

They didn't check their facts and are putting out the propaganda, as is always the case and just as the news always does, they put it in small print at the bottom of the page when they find out they're story isn't completely accurate.

give me a break, the CPS went in there looking for "sarah" and ended up finding several other girls that fit her situation. 16 yrs old with 4 kids. You don't get 4 kids at 16 w/o having sex a much younger age but you seem to think nothing goes on in the compound thats wrong or abuseful to the children.

You need to pay more attention to the news b/c not only have the media reported about at least 5 girls at or under 16 with up to 4 kids, but their own members of the FLDS ADMIT that such things occur.
They are not taking away her rights by going after the sick bastard that brought her up to believe its okay for a 30,40, sometimes 50 yr old man to have sex with a minor. They're protecting her & others from FUTURE ABUSES. You don't even have the slightest clue of how things are run there

There were more pregnant 16 year olds when I was in high school than there are at this place. I know a mexican girl who had 3 kids before she was 16 and was made to have her tubes tied. I had a nineteen year old friend who was a carney that nocked up a 13 year old girl and married her 3 years later. Why don't we raid highschools and carnivals? I am in reality your in TV land and a member of the lynch mob media. You just think these people are freaks because they are different.

Its not about becoming pregnant as a minor, ITS ABOUT WHO IMPREGNATES THEM and HOW THEY DO IT. If 2 CONSENTING minors have sex, there is no problem. But when a grown man who is thrice the childs age has sex w/her & impregnates her then there is something wrong w/that, especially when forced through religion.
The difference between a cult and a religion is the size of membership. Sure there are some minor differences, but they are pretty much the same.

Few problems w/your argument.
1)They didn't raid them b/c of pregnant 16 yr olds. They raided b/c of WHO impregnated them & the MEANS they used. i.e. 30,40,50 yr old men forcing girls into marriage.
2) The second issue is consent, many of these girls are FORCED into the marriage if not by physical means, through psychological ones telling them they will be damned for eternity for not obeying the prophet(he arranges all marriages)

They raided them because of one tip from an anonymous source. There are 400+ children that were taken away and I've only heard of a few instances of 30, 40, 50, year old men fathering a child with a minor. I am sure these few men aren't the father of all 400+. You should use more caution before you start running with a "lynch mob" media especially when they use little click words. Why not let thier cases be heard in a court of law and not in a court of "witch hunters" in the "lynch mob" media

It wasn't a "tip" it was a girl calling b/c she said she was being abused. The call has had its validity questioned but they have yet to pin it to anyone successfully.
Of course the first thing they are going to do after its been found out what does go on here is to question the phone call so they can get off on a technicality.
I'm not running w/the media and this isn't a witch hunt. Its the very opposite of a witch hunt, its a pedophile hunt. Something much worse than witches

In my opinion, this is not religion! Religion doesn't give the right to men to have sex with underage girls. Religious freedom is great, but sometimes people wield it to satisfy themselves. In this case, the men wanted to have access to hundreds of little girls and teenagers to have sex with whenvever they wanted. Where is the religion in that.

Unfortunately this is correct. Its an abuse of religious freedom for the justification of vile acts. But it is religion in the sense that they view it as their duty to their deity to do this. Just because something is wrong in religion doesn't mean that its not religion. Religion has several things surrounding it that are bad. This is just one of its forms. This is why education is so important because the more educated a person is the more they care for teachers and less for preachers

Sex abuse should be treated on a case by case basis with 'proof' in hand. You can't just say it's only about an poor abused girl without any substance. Put it this way, I know (and everyone else should know unless they're naive)technically you 'could' go around ANY city and gather up 400 plus people out of their houses in a multi block radius and find an abuser of some sort. Taking away individual Rights of innocent people because of a phone call and some bitter kids who left home is wrong.

The kids aren't bitter & they didn't leave home. They're pressured to leave if not flat out told to b/c they don't want to get married to some guy 3X their age. But you think their right to decide who they want to marry shouldn't be considered? The leader of the compound tells everyone who marries who & children/wives are taken away from their husbands & reassigned to other men if the leader decides the men have done something wrong.

Yes the children are harmed & its not the news saying this 1st. Former members of the community have stepped forward & talked about the abuses that occur there. I am all for taking down 'sexual' abusers but first and foremost you need 'proof'. Take it on a case by case basis. You wouldn't haul off a whole neighborhood in public society because 1 phone call came from the vicinity, why then would you take down a whole religious group for one phone call from someone that reported that a single individual was abusing them.
This is a modern day Witch Hunt, nothing more!

Yes they obtained a warrant and the fathers have no say in this because they are the ones perpetuating the vile acts of abuse and rape, so no they don't get a say in it. A parent is not the owner of a child, they are the steward of the child, whose sole purpose is to protect the child until it reaches the age of reason. Once a parent violates this responsibility they no longer have the rights afforded to parents simply because they've stopped BEING parents.

No religion is a good religion. Religious freedom isn't absolute. If a religion involves violating the rights of others, as is the case w/this polygamist community with regards to the children, then the religious freedom argument isn't valid because you violate the FREEDOM of others.

It has nothing to do with laws and I wasn't making an argument for laws. Laws are there for those who don't understand moral implications and need to have their egos appealed to by telling them don't do X or you will go to jail. I argue from a John Locke/John Stuart Mill stance that as long as what you do doesn't harm another than it should be legal. If it harms others than the idea of autonomy no longer justifies it, because you violate the autonomy of others.

Kellypack, I agree regarding the "evidence". One of the girls is 16 and has 4 children already. She must have been around 12 when she was impregnanted. I don't see any young men around, only old, stinky, pedophile goats. I've read detailed accounts of those who have escaped this nutcase cult; the details are scary, to say the least. The worst part is that it's not fiction. Why are there so many people in this country defending these pedophile creeps?
