nop you cant do that. when you have the time capsule connected with your mac /wirellesly) time machine will want to use it as backup HD, it has to be empty or time machine will ask you to clean it (your files), otherwise it wont be usefull to it. if you just want a external HD just buy the western digital. I have it and it is just awesome
