Okkervil is a more folksy type of indie. They alternate between bright, jubilant music and sad but strong music. Now, emo doesn't mean that any given band is bad, but this isn't emo. And yet, it's not bad. (Actually, in my honest and humble opinion, Okkervil River is fucking awesome, but you know, my h&h.)

Emo was a term originally used in the 90's to describe music that developed after the punk era that had an emphasis on emotions. Since then, it has been abused and inappropriately used. Modern "emo" bands have ruined the reputation of what was once an emerging genre of rock music. Now it's all watered-down and generic. Point being, Okkervil River is not an "emo" band and even though their lyrics are clearly emotional, they are not watered-down garbage like all the classified emo bands today.

i dont know about that, only because i feel like its pretty much impossible to compare the two bands. i cant really compare Okkervil with other bands, even though if i were to describe them, i would say they sound like what a perfect rock and roll band is Supposed to sound like.

Radiohead is a post-everything band.Their music is terriffic, as is their vision, however Okkervil River are a very traditional, dirty, brilliant band.I agree they are what a perfect R&R band should sound like. Lyrically OR is far superior to Radiohead because they speak to me on an intimate, personal level.Radioheads lyrics can be brilliant, but more often than not they're too obtuse. Okkervil River is my favorite band, but I've got love for Radiohead, MMJ, and yes even Wu-Tang Clan. Represent.

@valverdista It's hard to compare the sounds of two entirely different bands. As far as raw talent / creativity goes, Radiohead wins, hands down. However, that doesn't mean Radiohead is a better band. The end product is all that matters and although some of Okkervil River's songs sound amateur, they're still a very good band.

If Radiohead IS any better than OR, it would be purely for the fact that Radiohead performs perfectly live and OR... yeah they just don't lol.
