I met Reimann after a performance of his Gespenstersonate years ago and he is a grandseigneur and oone of the most fantastic composers for vocal music in the 20. century. He understands the voice and her possibilities perfect. His music is emotion pure. She comes immediatley from heart and culminates as an essence of the text. And here we have the authentic version of this opera.
I had the opportunity to see this opera live at the San Francisco Opera. This was the most interesting and captivating opera I have seen in my life. Electrifying, stunning, no words can describe the power of.... Just Extraordinary...
Reimann keeps it simple..Thats what I like about this opera..He hits a mood for the scene and sustains it..And his regard for the voice and narrative is paramount..The orchestra supports the action.
Thank you so much for posting that scene of Lear. It was one of the best productions we've ever had in Munich. I joined several performances in 1978 and later and it was an unforgettable and deeply touching experience for me. The music is not easy to understand. Nevertheless the production was very successful at that time. Fischer-Dieskau as well as Julia Varady were unique as Lear and Cordelia. No wonder, Reimann composed their parts according to their suggestions. The result was incredible!
Thank you. It's nice to find someone else who appreciates this work, which I find quite powerful. I hope that you found the other scene that I uploaded as well. How exciting that you experienced this in the theater live.

Großer Gott. Wurde Leiden jemals eindrucksvoller und eindringlicher dargestellt? - nein, NIEMALS!
Und naja, Dietrich Fischer- Dieskau war ja schon immer der unglaublichste Bassbariton der Operngeschichte
