I'm surprise that not that many people are aware of Scritti Politt. This song was played in clubs around the world around 1984. Absolute did not get much played (I wonder), and Perfect Way was the one that finally got main stream played. This guy, Green Gartside was the one that popularized the funky beat with pop flavor in England & eventually around the world... Probably one of the very best of the 80's.
Wow, thanks for posting. You can see my head popping up and down up front with my best friends. I had waitied so long to see Scritti Politti live. Great show.
Nah, it's because his lead (and background) vocal arrangements are extremely "musical". If you think about Green Gartside's main vocal (i.e. Joni Mitchell, Rickie Lee Jones, Al Jarreau) and musical influences (Gershwin, Jay Graydon), things will make "complete sense" :-)
I met him in Boston and he sung with me the word girl in the hallway . I said wow !!! He really sings that way . On record he sounds like he's on glue or laughing gas 11!
This was sick back in the day!!! White group working legendary producer Arif Mardin, who ironically was Aretha's Main producer back in the sixties...I am sure the irony was not lost on any of them...
Green did an interview at the time of Mardin's death a couple of years ago and admitted that he was totally intimidated by the NY session guys playing on Wood Beez. Mardin had to take him away from the studio to work on the vocals. It's an incredible piece of music. Blew me away at the time and I still love those albums.
Top drawer from the man described by Vox magazine as the Roland Barthes of Electro soul, when referring to "A Little Knowledge" as one of the Top 100 vocal performances. This song rocked when I saw him in Mcr
Sooooo cool!! I'm very psyched to see Green and Scritti back, but it just isn't the same for reason. ONE EXCEPTION is this track. I just wish the audio was better!

Originally record sessions (never released) producer was legendary Nile Rodgers of CHIC (who also produced Madonna, David Bowie,...).
After some money problems the new producer was another legend : Arif Mardin.
