С этой картины началась любовь к высоколобому кино. Сабо, Брадауэр, Хоппэ как Боги могли всё, что хотели воплотить. В далёком 1981 году. ( from Russia )
starting 0:37 "one of the finest pieces of acting ever to come out of europe". Am I the only European somewhat insulted by that? That sounds a bit like "for European standards, that's not all too bad. But you should look at what we Americans do!" I hope I'm right in not assuming that this is how tha majority of Americans feel about acting. What Brandauer did was not just one of the finest pieces of acting ever to come out of Europe, it was one of the finest pieces of acting ever.
@VictorMLudwig I see what you mean, however I have a different take on it. To hear 'one of the finest pieces of acting...', my first instinct is to think that Brandauer did such a brilliant job with the role that a statement so bold can be made. It is more factual and less gushing than a statement comparing his performance to every acting performance, ever. IThe narrator acknowledges the statement as opinion but puts it in a realistic light.
@VictorMLudwig No, I'd hope not most Americans, but it sure as hell IS the way Hollywood looks at it. You only have to see their corrupt Academy Awards show to realize that.
@VictorMLudwig it sounded like it was the London Standard who wrote it! That would make me think that the meaning the phrase is not offensive or depreciative at all. Just a complement. But, in a way, you're right. Foreing movies (movies that are not american) are usually not treated the same way as american movies are by hollywood, which is a shame!
The quote you took insult at was clearly stated as being taken from the LONDON Standard, so why do you blame Americans for a comment published by an English newspaper?
I'm an American and the thing that is most offensive here, is the fact that you can't comprehend what you hear and then act on your own ignorance. Not Europeans, just you.
If you actually listened to where the quote, that's got your panties twisted in a knot came from, you'd discover that the L-O-N-D-O-N S-T-A-N-D-A-R-D, is NOT an American publication. It's a U.K. paper, you jackass! So, how were they referencing "we Americans" from a London review of the film, "Sherlock"?
its about an actor who decides to kiss nazi ass in his plays so he can get famous he managed to praise the nazis so good he even got to marry a pro nazi general or something =)
