  • Perfect pitch, perfect guitar, perfect voice...we were ALL blessed in Eva's presence with anything she did. Thank you God!

  • I have been listening to Eva for many years now and the one thing I do find amazing is the synergy between her voice and guitar, each helps bring out the best in the other.

  • OK, I've listened to about a half dozen of her songs and she might be the greatest singer that I've ever heard and I'm pretty old :)

  • Yes, Garfunkel has a wonderful voice and I think he would tip his hat to this beautiful voice we

are hearing on this video.Eva Cassidy was indeed angelic. It's a pity so many of us only learned

about her long after her passing but one thing is for sure,we won't forget her.

  • A friend just turned me on to this amazing singer. Wow, she is so lovely. I really love the way she does the Dusty Springfield song, "Son of a Preacher Man" and Simon &

    Garfunkel's, "Bridge Over Troubled Water."

  • This is the best version of this song.............

  • I remember hearing some awesome performers live at The Birchmere. Live performance must be a real test for artists, and I hope I do not exaggerate when I call The Wonderful Eva a true vocal artist. Although the two--possibly three--people applauding at the end make me cringe, I suspect this appearance is a measure of her commitment to her art. RIP.

  • For Simon and Steve, thinking about you both today. I just wish Simon, that you had had the chance to grow up and live life with your brother. Always in my heart xx

  • my god,no word to say,amazing

  • I have been listening to Eva for several years and I am a musician. When you listen to her sing Somewhere Over the Rainbow followed by Stormy Monday and If you understand vocal abilities; You realize immediately the incredible talent Eva possessed! She can sing so softly you find yourself leaning toward her or she push a high note until it shakes the marrow of your bones! When she sings she captivates! I am like many others who are fans. The way she emotes touches me like no one else. TY Eva!

  • My gosh. My gosh.

  • Angels do exist!

  • My brother played this song at my dear moms service because she was so sweet when he needed a friend and a bridge over troubled water. Pretty voice, wow...

  • No autotune needed!

  • Amazing! I'm floored by the fact that the only thing that she had to accompany her was a guitar and her amazing voice.

  • I can't believe this is live. Unreal. What a god given gift. American Idol suck it.

  • i was looking at some other singers from the 40s when i came across eva...i love her music. It is sad that she is gone.

  • Beyond....

  • I'd give anything to be one of those...4?...5?... or so people that are clapping at the end. This performance deserves an audience of millions.

  • Sa disparition est un témoignage de plus que la recherche contre le cancer doit avancer...

  • long live..........................

  • her unique talents was to ad lib some keys but never lose its original form like an eagle soaring in the vast skies but never get lost to her home.bravo. new artists try to duplicate this but nut quite.

  • Great singer great song, but that finger sliding up the guitar string goes straight through me,gives me cringes..

  • @fringist I know right? WHy can't people pick their fingers up instead of slide them, hell I can do it and I suck at playing

  • thanx 4 eva dear god

  • Una de mis cantantes favoritas! no me canso de escucharlaaaa! un deleite para los sentidos!!

  • This was one of my mother's favorite songs. We had the church pianist play it at her memorial service. Hearing Eva sing it is like having her beside me again.

  • Eva was a true talent that too few people have ever heard of. We have her music on our iPods and it's the kind of music you can listen to any time of day or not, regardless of your mood. It just lifts you up.

  • there has never been a song written that eva couldn't sing as though she was the only person ever to sing it R.I.P

  • I thought I was a hard-hearted old git - but this brought tears to my eyes.An angelic song met an angelic singer. I now listen to it when things get a bit too much.

  • Just discovering Eva Cassidy. Her tone, and her interpretation is stellar!

  • her tone was just amazing, love it!

  • Eva is truly an amazing artist her voice captivates me her range is a range of history. She too is very similar to many greats. What a treasure.

  • Thats nice to read, nice to know how people get comfort from losing loved ones. I She didnt get the recogonition you are right

  • 53 people are fucking deaf....

  • Just so very pretty.

  • Why do all the good talents die young?

  • S&G are too close to my heart for me to declare this version actually *better* than theirs (Garfunkel has a spectacular voice); but Eva's rendition is also beautiful.

"Sail on silver girl, sail on by: your time has come to shine."

Unfortunately for Eva, that's only come true after her death. :(

  • @silencesfell Could be stuck with Justin Bieber for some considerable time then.......

  • How can I get a copy of this version? I downloaded the album version which I also love but I think I love this one a bit better!

  • take a listen to my original song "here to love". i'd be nowhere w/o eva....

  • Gorgeous.

I've discovered Eva Cassidy thanks to youtube!! She's actually not well-known in France: it's a shame because her voice is beautiful...Far from the star system, her albums are mainly jazzy and accoustic. A lot of emotion, simplicity and talent.

So sad that she's gone so young...RIP.

  • I simply love Eva singing its so relaxing

  • The recorded version is a bit different than this one. I suggest you all give it a listen because having a full band to support her powerful voice other than just an acoustic really makes her version truly stunning.

  • Then go and listen to simon and art s version .............ass hole!!!!

  • I'm saying a prayer right now for forty eight unfortunate souls. This woman is amazing and I'm saddened that it has taken me this long to discover her. God has taken one of his angels home to sing in his choir. We were blessed to have her here while we did.

  • @justcorylee

Count me in i am saying prayer for now 50 unfortunate souls.

I stumble on her by accident and she has such a unique lovely voice , style and emotion. She also sang beautiful in "Danny Boy". There are many other good singers singing the same songs each are unique in their own right. However, I never thumb them down.

  • What a soft touch-great posting thanks Eva where ever you are.

  • Fair play God has one hell of a band up there.....

  • 48 people are deaf

  • @isitomorrowyet Deaf? Deaf people feel Eva. These 48 are not alive.

This lady will be played at my remberance. Angelic voice and REAL talent.

These are huge compliments from an antipodean. RIP Eva

  • I love Eva. Have several of her albums and not a bad one in the bunch. She is an angel gone too soon.

  • God blessed Eva Cassidy with her voice so that she may bless others, even when she is in Heaven.

  • @Bra23we12 do you not realise her ability to change and almost question the timing, dragging it out to the last possible moment is actually what makes eva so WONDERFUL! her sense of timing is what makes her songs so unique, plus ofcourse her beautiful voice... also the 'warbling' is actually a very difficult thing to do with your voice, it can mean that you have no control BUT also in experience singers you hear it a lot because they control the 'warbling' to add different textures to the sound.

  • @OopsIDroppedTheMilk

Yes. I appreciate that tonal control takes great skill. I accept that she has an outstanding voice and true talent.

    But.....

This song calls for a pure, simple sound. I'm sure she could nail it......if she wanted.

    Sometimes less is more.

.....and sometimes....the song is better than the singer.

Imagine how this would sound with her voice.....sung simply.

  • stunning !!! Eva and her pure voice are a gift from the almighty - I cry whenever I hear her. Such a bright light should never have been extinguished so soon from this world. I feel truly blessed to have found her music..RIP

  • Comment removed

  • I was in bands for half my life - anyone who hasn't sung live just can't comprehend how incredible it is that these recordings were made in a little club, or restaurant, and that this woman made this music without benefit of auto-tune or any other studio tricks, no 25 takes, no mixing, no NOTHING -- just her pure, AMAZING voice and her guitar.

    It's almost unbelievable.

I'm not a guy given to crying, but every time I listen to her water runs down my face - which SUCKS b.c I can't listen 2 much.

  • @dedicateddad

I agree with all that you have said. This lady possessed a God given talent which needed no other assistance

to create the beautiful music she gave to this world. You are not the only male that sheds a tear when listening to her.

  • right on brother. what a voice to lose!

  • @dedicateddad

the best man cry...come on be a man :)

  • Just like a bridge over troubled waters. gooey I LOVE IT.Voice of an Angel..!!!

  • Wow.

  • PS Eva Cassidy had such an amazing talent and I love all her work. She never wanted to be changed by the music industry and stay true to herself..she did that and has left behind some fantastic music that is untouched. I can't believe that anyone would dislike this angel. So incredibly shy was she but wow what talent.

  • Please don't think me crazy..my son passed away and I have been struggling hard with it. For days now this song has been popping into my head relentlessly. I am a strong believer in messages from the grave so I found the song and listen to the words. I've heard this song may times over the years but for the first time listened to the words. I got his message loud and clear and from the voice of an angel herself.

  • @angeljosh11 that´s not crazy . its just beautiful. i know what you mean.

  • Hello all of you who discovered immense beauty named Eva Cassidy. I know it is hard to believe it, that she is gone. We try to understand to digest, what we are allways told, that she is in heaven with God. Better off...But what if this whole concept is wrong. Jesus was capable to bring people back. He said he will do so once on a global scale. Well I'm waiting for Eva to sing together. Don't thing please, that I'm crazy. I just read the Bible carefully .

  • 48 people are deaf

  • Never heard such perfection, sail on silver bird .....x

  • She plays S and G, sings Aretha and the result is pure Eva. Not one comment can really do justice to this talent. Guess God wanted her all to himself. And then it ends, you hear clapping and remember she did it live.

  • Absolutely unbelievable, what a beautiful version sung so sweet. She is an Angel and I love her songs I can listen to her all day every day. I love that picture of her out side the blues bar and her name "Eva Cassidy" is shown as the guest appearance. I would love a large copy of that for my wall in my house. Thankyou for posting something so beautiful as Eva Cassidy singing.

  • Now THAT'S how it's done...

  • haunting rendition.... i love it. Thanks for sharing.

  • 48 people don't like this? Really? Seriously? No kidding? You didn't just go in a different direction, you actually took the time to say "no." Wow.

  • What a gift....

  • i have never heard of her til now. and this is first song i pick??? where is she??

  • @TheParamountPrincess ... Unfortunately, Eva Cassidy passed away in 1996... :(

  • Her voice is a crisal bridge leading from earth to heaven

  • EC and S&G renditions are both sublime, just expressed through different voices. I can't prefer one over the other, both inspire imprints of nobility left on my fallen state as a God's creature and steer me to seek the divine.

  • 48 people have no idea what they're missing.

  • Better than Simon & Garfunkel..ever performed this song.....such a waste that she is not here any more...

  • @chiangmai700 what happend to her?

  • @slivercord She died of cancer in May 1996.

  • She didn't get the recognition she deserved in life, but in April,2010 she entered my life in a profound way. Several days after my son's sudden death I awoke one morning with "Fields of Gold" playing in my head. My transition from shock to reality was just beginning. I googled her &found she 2 had died,SAD,bought cds&Found comfort in her angelic voice. She indeed lives on. Rest in Paradise Eva&John John's Mom

  • @JChurchRIP "Angelic voice" says it all. Her singing give me chills!

  • @JChurchRIP

xx never leaves but thats how we survive

  • Such a terrible shame she didn't get the recognition she deserved in her life time. Beautiful.

  • My Neice sang this version in a competion 3 yrs ago...she won first place...check her out...Renae Orr on you tube...with her Dad playing guitar... Awesome if I must say. :)

  • My Neice sang this version in a competion 3 yrs ago...she won first place...check her out...Renae Orr on you tube

  • I LIKE THIS SONG VERY MUCH.

    PLEASE CHECK MY VERSION.

    THANKS.

  • wow - her high notes are so mournful. RIP eva cassidy.

  • She sits by God's side now up in heaven, and sing the angels goodnight.

Bless you Eva, bless your voice and spirit <3

  • Now I know what an angel sounds like.

  • Voice of an angel.

  • Exceptional!

  • I love this!! She is unbelievable, please check out my first youtube cover which is one of her songs, hope u enjoy thanks xx

  • I love and miss you Eva.. What you could have done..

  • Im going to judge this honestly disregarding the cancer and subsequent death..If I was sitting in this restaurant unaware of eva and she sang this song I would have been glued to her every word..I like the inflections in her voice and the semi upbeat take on this stunning song..It almost feels like shes trying to instil hope beyond the usual connotations of the song. Its a fresh hope like im hearing it for the first time...For me her version of "Danny Boy" is her most poignant performance!

  • uh lookIng for a man that would give me some experience.

  • Not at all annoying - you Pratt. It's lush and she was blessed with honeyed vocal chords.

  • SIMPLY FANTASTIC. wholesome

  • Watch the Eva Cassidy story from ABC News Nightline from 2001 @ abcnews.go.com/Nightline/video/rainbow--10170062 It is 18 minutes long, but really AMAZING !!!

  • - not many has come even close to being as good as Art Garfunkel, when singing this song,,, but I think that Art Garfunkel sometimes puts Eva Cassidy on his CD player and says "Wow,,, THIS is good,, Paul,, come here and listen to THIS"...

  • you just cant believe how perfect she was just wow noone else compares. noone.

  • At the end it sounded like there where eight people clapping.

Now the whole world gives applause.

  • Eva, you are the finest lady that ever sung at our little blue planet.

    Thanks forever!

  • what i would give to see live at pearl's remastered and released

  • a very wonderful voice... so sad to know that she is already gone.. but still, her legacy

will remain in my heart forever...

  • She was simply perfect in delivery, tone and mood , it is a crying shame she is not with us, but her legacy lives on with us happy to have had her .x

  • she is incredible.....just incredible....

  • She left us what she had 2 givel This is one of the most beautiful voices i have ever had the pleasure of hearing in my lifetime.

  • Truly amazing voice! Best cover i have ever heard even better then original by Simon&Garfunkel and that is a great version also! You are deeply missed Eva Cassidy your voice is timeless! Thanks for posting this!

  • This is breathtaking! The saddest thing is the pitiful applause at the end. How could you fail to cheer at the top of your voice if you had just seen this live in front of you??

  • stoianovaurelia

  • I work at a hospice center. We often play Eva's music when the family has no preference in a patient's final days. hHer voice always moves and comforts all involved. One young man even hummed along a few bars just before he died. People always ask why have I not heard of her before. Thank you Eva, I am sure you now sing with the angels.

  • The brightest stars shine for the shortest time. R.I.P.

  • I love this girl like she lives

  • We all are so lucky to have had this remarkable lady for the short time that we did. The world had her long enough to give us a great gift of her unreplacable voice. We all have to grab onto the songs that she gave us and hold onto them tight. Rest well Eva.

  • Always always always makes me cry.

  • @marmitehighway Like I am now?

  • Eva will live on through her beautiful vocals and music...a true gift from God! Her songs deeply touch me in my heart...too bad Melanoma took her at age 33! R.I.P. Eva......

  • Music is one of the antidote's to the difficulties of living, yet we must live and contend with it all. So we harm and help each other. War, disease, starvation, homelessness, loneliness all try to get us, but beauty and love and happiness does also.

  • one of the few people whose cover is better than the original. what a talent.

  • @pyroprince78 "one of the few people whose cover is better than the original. what a talent" Amen to that. And how much more, is amazing !!

  • @pyroprince78 Not only this. Think what she did with Over the Rainbow.

  • such controll, true ledgend.

  • Mercy this girl can sing. She just drops me to my knees. This is pure honey...

  • I would have killed to have had the chance to sing with her!

  • I love her voice, I can feel such emotion, the pain, the love, the artist.

  • eva never fails to make me cry, God gave us this angel on earth to enjoy her music and voice for the short time she was here with us and then he took her back with him for she is too precious to remain in this world.

  • Eva + Forever.

  • She was great singer, but she will never beat the original. The song doesn't match her voice. It's a great cover....yeah, agreed. But she has done far better.

  • This track imo, can never be bettered over the original...but by god this is the best cover ive ever heard, i tip my hat big time.

  • One of the best singers I've ever heard!!! I'm sorry she's not here to continue blessing people.

    Renee

  • Beautiful beyond imagination.

  • The crowd smatters applause. HELLO! This woman just move a mountain range with her voice and song, and you applaud like it's the Tony and The Rockets lunge band covering "Stayin' Alive". America.

  • I was driving to work and heard "Over The Rainbow" sung by ?

I went nuts trying to find the voice that sang this song in a way that I have never thought possible. And then I found EVA . WOW that sums it all up!

  • @DaVooz, I apologize for posting that twice.

  • wow,...love the small audience too ...

  • DaVooz-

No. This is a solo acoustic version. The one on "Live at Blues Alley" is her with a band.

  • @MrWheelz99 I get it, thanks for enlightening me. The solo gig is the most dear to me. Just a steelstring and a voice. Amazing. I don't know who was responsible for the simple sound and the direct recording, but the effect of it is great. It's clear, bright and angelic,

  • DaVooz-

No. this is an acoustic version with just her. The one on Live at Blues Alley was with her full band.

  • Is Live at Pearl's the same as Live at Blues Alley?

  • @DaVooz ,to give a context of these different performances,Live at Blues Alley was sung by Eva at Blues Alley,a popular nightclub in Washington,DC,USA which still exists today.Live at Pearl's was sung by Eva with only her own guitar accompaniment at Pearl's, a small restaurant in Annapolis, Maryland,USA which no longer exists today.Pearl's was where Eva sang many of her most pleasing & beautiful vers of her "songs".

  • @Joner888 Thanks for the info. I can order her CD's (and a paperback on her) online at bol.com (Holland), but I didn't see this title Live At Pearl's. I now know I'll have to look for it elsewhere. I always get back to those solo gig recordings - indeed they are the most pleasing & beautiful versions of her "songs".

  • @Joner888 Thank you soo much for this insight into one of our lost treasures. I worked in that town for a while & it truly has a special feel. What it must have felt like to see her in person & appreciate what a truly gifted singer Eva Cassidy was. I close my eyes & imagine being there while she was playing this great Paul Simon song & it gives me goose bumps.

  • @sjhgm1 Just a clarification: Simon wrote this (and a masterful composer he was), but it was Garfunkel who sang this on the album. This is an S&G song.

(Only saying this because I feel Garfunkel doesn't get enough credit for his amazing voice as it is. His voice is actually better than Paul Simon's IMO).

  • @silencesfell I vote with your opinion too.

  • I can image Eva Cassidy and Luke Kelly up there in Heaven contesting who had the most perfect voice :)

When the level is this this high there are no winners and losers. Only admiration.

  • Such a wonderful voice lost. The best female vocalist ever.Pure and from the heart.

She will be sadly missed by all who have heard her.

  • For most singers, I cringe as they approach the high notes of this classic.. For Eva, I awaited with anticipation.

  • Passed away too young.

  • Terry Wogan in the UK, ,Here in OZ it was Sydney radio personality Alan Jones who promoted Eva back in the late 90's. Iv'e been in love ever since

  • ja är kär träffas i himlen ja spelar gitarr du sjunger veritas

  • The angels spoke to us through Eva Cassidy...

  • I feel so sad and embarrassed. I own one of her albums, and didn't know about her death. Wow. What a huge talent. What artistry.

  • i'm sure the angels welcomed her with open arms...rest in peace...such a loss

  • Eva ..... She was so beatutiful....

  • The only thing that Terry Wogan ever did that was worthwhile in the UK was discovering this wonderful gem of a singer.

  • she died of skin cancer

  • she died of melanoma

  • I have never heard such a pure voice.

  • WHAT HAPPENED TO HER???????????

  • @gregbrooll What do you mean - what happened to her? ???? Where have you been living the last 10 years?
