  • Ledgar did not even play the the Joker,he was just a bad joker.Worse then the joke i made. The fact is Ledgar made a mockery out of the Jokers name. He turned the Joker in to some emo kid that complaines about daddy issuse all the time. Never has an body ever made such an insult to the jokers name.If you think otherwise then you are not a fan of the joker your most like'le some emo kid with daddy issuse 2.I think ledgar should stuck to what he was good at takeing it in the ass by jake gyllenhaal

  • I think people prefer Jack purely out of affection for the actor, and nostalgia maybe. In my opinion Ledger played the significantly better role. Not only that, but the role was better written, and in a far better movie.

  • they were both great

  • Will say the one thing that pissed me off about TDK was Two Face... His damn eye!

  • Ledger isn't the best Joker, what's so great about him anyway ? The scars idea is old (it's been used many times before) and the make-up....PLEASE !!!! It's PATHETIC ! Is Tokio Hotel missing a member ?

  • Heath Ledger is the best Joker

  • I like how people think there is ONE definitive Joker throughout all of Batman's history. The Joker in the comics has not and will not always be the same. This is the same for films. Superhero films don't have to literally translate comic to screen. Directors are free to make their own twists, and Nolan has done it right. Nicholson, Hamill and Ledger are all great Jokers.

  • Jack Nicholson IS the Joker. The guy with the sadistic sense of humor, the crazy laugh, and the wierd smile. Ledger is spine chilling, but he doesn't feel like the joker, also he doesn't look creepy. But, Joker is supposed to be the opposite of Batman, so he needs to be funny and sadistic, not creepy and dark. That, and he was always bad, not just some guy who wants to show us that there's evil in everyone.

In my opinion, Heath is the psyche, Jack is the face, Mark Hamill is the laugh.

  • simple mark hammil lol

  • look they both did a great joker, and everyone has there opinion. so like a very smart utuber named Susi2584 ones said: there's no point in arguing:D

  • @RandomRocker50: He just looks like a member of Kiss or Slikpnot !!!! His lines are dull, his performance unconvincing, he is constantly talking about his scars like an emo kid...and not even once does he make fun of Batman's horrible voice..he is obviously a humorless Joker aimed at emo kids. He looks like a pathetic emo version of The Crow. There's not one drop of ORIGINALITY in Ledger's Joker.

  • @Fantezism like I said there's no point in arguing...I still think Heath was the best by far:D

  • @Susi2584: Well long-term Batman fans think otherwise. Correct me if I'm wrong but you're really not into Batman, you just like Ledger.

  • @Fantezism actually no...I thought that Batman Begins and The Dark Knight were definitely greatest Batman movies...they left all other movies behind...I mean Tim Burton movie looks like a comedy compared to Nolan's movies...and I watched them all :D Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, Batman and Robin and Batman The Movie (that Joker was the gayest, gayer than Heath Ledger in Brokeback Mountain :))

  • @Susi2584: You're not a fan just because you ”watched” a few movies. Nolan's Batman sucks. That voice is just unforgivable. And the Joker...PLEASE !!!! If I want to see a guy with make-up on his face talking about how he got his scars, I'll watch a Tokio Hotel clip or listen to some other emo band. Nolan's movies are aimed at emo kids, not old-term Batman fans.

  • @Fantezism I still stand by my opinion:D

  • @Susi2584: You're not a Batman fan so your opinion doesn't really count.

  • @Fantezism Who are you to say all REAL Batman fans hate Nolan's movies? The Batman fans I know aren't as close-minded as you, and much more forgiving towards ''non-Batman fans''. Nolan has great talent, and his talent is recognized among the film elite. If you don't like Nolan's Batman, fine, but that doesn't make other people ''emo kids'' for liking them.

  • @Fantezism I couldnt have said it better

  • @Fantezism Who gives a fuck? You like what you like. People have opinions. Also I didn't know it was something cool to be a "Long-term" Batman fan... can't you just be a fan? I guess you can consider me long term because Batman was one of my first words. To me Nicholson will always be the best Joker... With Ledger as a close fucking second. Stop judging people on something as tiny as Batman it makes you look like a complete loser.

  • @Filmdude6 Well some opinions are stupid. And the fact that some people here say that Ledger was the best Joker when in reality he was just plain mediocre is annoying. To quote Anthony Jesselnik again, Ledger's been given more credit than a native American applying for college. He wasn't the best actor or the best Joker. Some of his fanboys even sent WB a petition to retire the Joker for his sake, which is BS !

  • @Filmdude6 And just because I don't buy into hypes and call it as it is doesn't mean I'm a loser. I'm not the one who died from a drug overdose.

  • @Fantezism i agree with you on that one, and in my opinion Nicholson did a better job as the joker we all know and love, the ORIGINAL joker, the COMICBOOK joker the FUNNY and CHARISMATIC but still CREEPY joker. Ledger did a pretty good acting job...but he played a entirely different caracter. he just played a psycho but he could have been ANY psycho. he was'nt the JOKER. this is just my opinion and i respect others. i don't a hate on people because of there opinion. that's all.

  • @RandomRocker50: Since when was it hard to play as a psycho ? Especially one who wears make-up and threatens people at knife/gunpoint ? Sure, Ledger is scary (anyone aiming a gun or a knife at other people would be) but what's so memorable about Ledger's Joker ? I bet The Dark Knight will be forgotten as soon as they make a new Batman film starring someone else as the Joker.

  • @Fantezism you've got a good point there. it's definitely harder to deliver a good convinceing punceline (which Nicholson did brilliantly btw) than it is to play a psycho, and TDK was a overrated movie. i mean it was OK but it does'nt get anywhere NEAR the batman movie from 89 (in my opinion the best batman movie ever made.EPIC.) and Ledgers joker can't touch Nicholson's. you've got some good point's and i agree with almost everything you've said.

  • ....why would comparing Nicholson's Joker with Ledger's be anything like comparing a cat to a dog ? Why would the two be incomparable ?

  • @Fantezism Heath Ledger was better than Nicholson...people only praise Nicholson because he is one of the best actors of all time...

  • or comparing a sword with a knife. A cat with a dog, a car with an SUV, pop music with R&B,

a villa with a mansion, a professional prostitute with a promiscious whore, a wrist watch with a bracelet, a dish with a dessert, a fork with a spoon, a door with an arch-gate, a cigarette with a cigar or pipe, milk with water, perfume with deo, crystal with a diamond, green with blue, a PC with a laptop, a cape with a cloak, a leaf with a grass, a chair and a sofa, a sofa and a couch XD

  • They two different kind of Jokers. Both are great.

  • I'm going to make a movie about the war for independence, but I won't base it on what the history books say.

  • Nicholson played the Joker to a tee. Heath played a completely different character to a Tee. They just happened to have the same name.

  • Jack is the better Joker. Heath did pretty good, but his version seemed manic-depressive. Jack's Joker was the classic type; hysterical, charismatic, prankish, etc.

  • Ledger's joker isn't even THE Joker. He looks more like the lead singer of The Cure. Give me a break ! The only reason kids are supporting Ledger's performance so much is because they are his fanboys and that's what fanboys do, they support their idol regardless of how ridiculous the movies that feature them are. The actual Joker is like a funny version of Al Capone. Imagine someone changing Al Capone's character like Nolan changed the Joker's, wouldn't those changes suck ?

  • @Fantezism why is your "actual joker" the right one and ledgers wrong? nicholsons joker was an actual JOKE.

  • @Kilox1000: Because it is. Asking me to explain why Nicholson's Joker is the genuine Joker is like asking me to explain why Bale's Batman voice sucks. The Joker was conceived as a mafia capo type of gangster who lost his mind, but not his smarts, after falling into a vat of antidepressant chemicals. Ledger's Joker, however, dyes his hair green and puts too much make-up on his face (Emo?) and keeps making up stories about how he got his scars. How scary. My vote goes for Nicholson.

  • @Fantezism uh idk about you but I'd be more scared of a pyschopathic twisted serial killer who doesn't give 2 shits about anything and loves to upset order than some old timey gangster. and they both had green hair idiot. I'm guessing your old? your version of joker doesn't make it right, your just an older generation. people can like whatever portrayal they want, heath's joker needed to be darker and different to fit the movie. your grandpa probably thinks adam west is the best bman

  • @Kilox1000: Ledger's Joker is just an emo version of that clown at McDonald's. He has no style, no wits, no nothing. The only reason you're attacking me is because you're a Ledger fanboy.

  • @Fantezism LOL ok your right even though 90% of the world disagrees with you. your only attacking me cause your a nicholson fanboy.

  • @Kilox1000: Your are clearly projecting since I didn't attack you in any of my pervious messages. And I'm not a Nicholson fan. Just because I think Ledger's performance wasn't really all that impressive doesn't mean I'm a Nicholson fanboy. I actually find the guy to be obnoxious and too self-assured. I guess he meets all the requirements to be a Ledger fan.

  • @Fantezism you don't have to be a ledger fan to see that his performance as the joker was one of the best acting performances of all time up their with hannibal. your just a low life hater.

  • @Kilox1000: Antony Hopkin's Hannibal is overrated too, I don't like Hopkins much, he is obnoxious and a one hit wonder, aside from his role as Hannibal there isn't anything great about him. Coming back to Ledger's performance, his Joker ignores EVERYTHING that made the Joker great. You can't redraw a circle as a triangle and still call it a circle. If you want to rewrite the story fine, but don't name your new characters after the older ones.

  • @Fantezism you can bitch all you want, the joker is still instantly recognizable and he still uses the same clown themes and twisted sense of humor personality. why would he rename the character just because one little fag like you is bitching how he likes old timey joker better? and now your saying lecter sucked to? well this just goes to show your terrible taste in actors and performances.

  • @Kilox1000: Actually the Joker had never used so much lipstick or worn clothes that made him look like a member of Tokio Hotel. It is implied that he dyes his hair green...Nicholson's Joker has green hair cause he fell in that vat of chemicals, but Ledger's Joker didn't go through that experience so why is his hair green ? To be honest, if his name weren't The Joker and his nemesis Batman, I would never have thought Ledger was playing as The Joker. He looks more like Beetlejuice.

  • @Fantezism umm are you smoking something? the only real difference in the looks is he doesn't look completely gay all the time and his hair is longer with slightly more eye shadow. and nicholsons joker also had red lips..face it dude your just making up excuses to hate him. your a hater plain and simple. you can't appreciate a good acting performance because your too old and stubborn to let go of your ancient characters that were good like 30 years ago and were completely different.

  • @Kilox1000: If anyone's making excuses here it's you. You are trying to find reasons to praise his performance when in reality you know it's average at best and wouldn't care about it much if it weren't Ledger's. Seriously, just look at him and compare him to the Joker from the comics ! They differ more than they resemble ! Does Ledger even wear a hat ? Seriously, just look at Ledger. He looks more like the Grinch than the Joker.

  • @Kilox1000: As for Hopkins, he's overrated. He is known just for his role in Hannibal wherein he shocked the viewers by doing gross things rather than by bringing to bear his alleged acting skills. That's basically all he ever does: disgust the public by doing gross things or by giving the camera that OBNOXIOUS look.

  • @Fantezism yeah this is why no one takes your opinions seriously. you think its just a coincidence that 90% of america is praising ledgers performance? he spent 2 months alone in a motel just to prepare for the role. it even contributed to his death. I don't give a shit about the comics, this is a different joker, who said it was going to be like the comic joker? its a darker more realistic approach and he put on a 10x better PERFORMANCE than Nicholson ever has.

  • @Kilox1000: See what I mean ? You keep praising Ledger whereas I'm talking ONLY about his performance in THIS movie. I'm not saying he's a bad actor I'm just criticizing THIS performance without generalizing his other roles as being lousy. You are assuming that I've something personal against the man. Nolan is the one to blame since Nolan thought he was too good a director that he didn't even have to take into account the comics and previous Batman movies. Bad dirs ruin good actors.

  • @Fantezism of course I"m praising ledger. thats what you do when someone puts on an incredible acting performance. regardless of the role. and why does nolan have to make the movie how you want him to? are you the director? he wanted to bring batman to a new light, different than the comics. more gritty dark and realistic. this joker fit the movie perfectly. if you don't like it then you don't like it, but don't try to criticize it for not being a comic.

  • @Kilox1000: You think Ledger's performance is incredible, I think it's incredibly overrated. It wasn't a bad one, it was just too untypical of the Joker. As for the realistic aspect of the movie, it's ridiculous to go to such lengths to make a fictitious character seem realistic when he's essentially fictitious. If I want to see real crime-fighting I'll watch Steven Seagal's Lawman. Nolan's idea of Batman just sux. If Ledger weren't in it, critics wouldn't rate the movie above 7.

  • @Fantezism yeah think you whatever you want...this is your retarded opinion no one agrees with you.

  • @Kilox1000 lol, that is what someone answers when he runs out of arguments, the majority is not always right...

  • @cacaza123 how the fuck am I supposed to argue when all you say is "his performance wasn't good" your obviously retarded and just biased and theres no point in arguing anyway. how do you argue "Tom Brady sucks at quarterback"? its the same thing.

  • @Kilox1000 he didnt say it wasnt good, he said it was good but not as great as people says, like hopkins with hannibal, in both cases the character does all the work, the performance of the actores are right but arent the best performances ever, they are just right. He also argues that the character lacks of arguments in some aspects. The film is interesting and has some points in favor, but it isnt faithful to the comic, u can like it or not but is not need of bs other opinions

  • @cacaza123 it's not supposed to be faithful to the comics. and when your calling 2 of the the UNDISPUTED best acting performances ever "overrated" or "not very good" I have every right to trash his stupid opinion.

  • @Fantezism oh my god. U and me agree on one thing. I love Nolan's Batman movies but I too felt that Ledger's Joker left me wanting. He was not that terrifying. It was hyped. maybe I've seen too many movies and am now desensitized. Perhaps Christian Bale's angry self should have played the Joker. He would've done it Bateman style justice.

In the Dark Knight Rises Prologue 2012 on Utube, Bane is truly terrifying. Literally muscle for muscle Idk how the Bats and his bag of tricks will handle him.

  • @ellenhg45: As for Bane, I hope they won't overdo him and overlook the fact that he was also fiercely intelligent and had that particular Hispanic accent ” Ai uil breeeeik iuuuuuu !!! ”. To be honest, I think we have enough Batman movies, the circle is complete, no need for more. They should try making a movie of Batman Beyond and Justice League. They've milked the Batman franchise to exhaustion. Give me a new movie with a new story any day.

  • @Fantezism I like most of the Batman movies but I REALLY enjoyed the Batman cartoons on Cartoon Network including Batman Beyond.

You said Nolan's Batman sucks. Dont you even like the Tumbler compared to the original lithe Batmobile? I kinda like the different takes directors have on original stories.

  • @ellenhg45: It does suck compared to the previous Batman movies. Like I said, I rate Nolan's movie a 7/10, but it's clear that it's not worth the hype. The fact that Nolan just IGNORES the comics is just wrong. Batman Beyond and even The Batman go in a different direction than the comics, but they don't disregard them. TDK just doesn't deserve all the credit it's been given. I like Batman's Gotham for its 40s dystopian atmosphere. In TDK however everything is too emo-freakish.

  • @Fantezism: And nevermind Nicholson ! I hate that guy almost as much as I hate Hopkins. So obnoxious Jack is. He reminds me of Rosie O'Donnel for some reason. I've just googled him and I saw that his manboobs are bigger than Rosie's. Thank you for reminding me of how much Nicholson pisses me off.

  • @Fantezism lol I'm a Nicholson fan, but Heath's joker shits on Nicholson a hundread times...

  • @Susi2584: Well that's a matter of opinion. Others think that Ledger's Joker sxxxs himself since he looks more like Ronald McDonald's emo cousin. And I'm not a Nicholson fan either. I hate that guy.

  • @Fantezism Why do you want to stick to the comics 100% this will make movies so predictable and so boring.

  • @DaFree0ne: I don't. I LOVE the Batman Beyond series, which is set in the future as opposed to the comics that are set somewhere in the 40s-50s ? Why do I love Batman Beyond and dislike The Dark Knight ? Because BB pushes the limits without breaking them, it RESPECTS the comics and continues the story without rewriting it. TDK ignores the comics and takes too many liberties. The only reason people praise this movie so much is because they are fond of Bale and Ledger.

  • @Fantezism I am not fond of anyone and I do love TKD over

    The batman...

  • Meiner Meinung her ist Ledger besser, damit mein ich aber nicht das Nicholson schlecht ist, er hat das immerhin auch sehr gut hinbekommen. Aber ... Mark Hammill macht die Synchro des Jokers echt geil :D

  • Jack is the greatest Live action comic book Joker.

Heath is the greatest Live action real life Joker

Mark is the greatest Voice for the joker.

    nuff said

  • I'm soo sick of people saying MARK HAMIL.

hes not the joker. hes just a VOICE. how the fuck are you going to compare him to actors? he obviously has the best voice, but hes in a completely different category.

  • You really can't say.

Their interpretations of the Joker were tailor-made for the individual films.

The "party animal from hell" approach that Jack Nicholson used would have been out of place in The Dark Knight as the "nutso to the infinite" approach Ledger used would have been out of place in Batman.

Respect both performances. They were EXCELLENT!

  • jack nicholson was a comic version joker, heath ledger was the darker and killing one, jack killed in the movie, but only about 2 or 3, ledger was like jack the ripper

  • HEATH LEDGER ALL THE WAY !

  • Both actors did a great job, but Ledger's Joker had too few of the Joker to my liking, it's more like a modern terrorist which gives great suspense to the movie, but his jokes were few and too subtle.

On the other hand, Jack was more classic, a psychopath who just laughs at a body saying "I'm glad you're dead" and other stuff.

  • JACK

  • Neither are the best, Mark Hamill wins.

  • Justin Bieber would have made a better Joker than Ledger. Jack, hands down.

  • If you say that the fag from broke back mountain is better then Jack Nicholson who is hands down a far more better actor then faggot Ledger as the Joker, Then you are either a retarded dipshit, A Faggot supporting a faggot who wasn't actually a fag but played one in a movie, or just saying this cause he died...but bottom line Nicholson is the greatest joker...

  • @Bunjijumpz Why so Serious?

  • JACK JACK JACK JACK JACK!!!

  • Jack's Joker was much more faithful. Heath was a good villain, but his character was almost totally irrelevant to the Joker. I like the '89 Batman's balance between fantasy & reality, it makes the story very entertaining & fun simultaneously.

  • Mark "THE Joker" Hamill !!!

  • @dudeavon he was just a voice not The Joker please I culd give a voice for The Joker lol

  • @Susi2584: Well that voice is better than Nicholson's and Ledger's. Or at least that's what long-term Batman fans think. People who praise Ledger's performance don't even like Batman and co.- they just like Ledger. They couldn't care less about the story, which is totally okay; some like Superman better, others prefer Spiderman...but don't go telling long-term Batman fans which Joker is better.

  • @Fantezism Heath's Joker laugh is far better...out of his depth as the Joker?...you're kidding right? watch again the whole performance...but Hamill just gave the voice I don't know why people compare him to actors who actually played The Joker...but yea there's not point arguing everybody has different opinion:D

  • @Susi2584: Hamil's performance may be incomplete since he is just voicing the Joker but his voice is just better, hands down. I wouldn't want to see him as the Joker in any movie but his voice for some reason is just what old-term Batman fans like myself identify as the voice of the Joker. The thing is, we have more than enough Batman movies, they've milked this franchise long enough, time to come up with something new instead of reinventing the wheel again and again and again.

  • i more like nicholson because joker means killing joke right,so who does funnier things before killing

  • Jack Nicholson

  • @GreenPanther13 Heath Ledger was far better...Nicholson played himself

  • @Susi2584: That's a matter of opinion. Others think that Nicholson was better and Ledger was the one who was playing himself. I mean just look at Ledger..he looks like the Grinch for crying out loud. He's just out of his depth as the Joker, they should have given him a different role.

  • @Susi2584 Nicholson played Joker... Ledger played sth else than Joker...

  • @GreenPanther13 Nicholson played himself...Ledger immortalized The Joker as the movie character :D...now there's no point arguing when you have your opinion and I have mine :D

  • Comment removed

  • nicholson = clown prince Leder = boogey man. Watching batman89 I have to go with Jack even though he's not that great either, he's at least more accurate.

  • the best joker is in the batman videogame (arkham asylum and arkham city)

  • @manupenta4 thats mark hamill

  • @manupenta4 fucking agreed

  • People get writing and acting confused. Nicholson was the better Joker. Nicholson's Joker was more insane, while Ledger's was more homicidal. It's the writing that's the big difference. Nicholson's Joker was closer to what the Joker is like in the comics and whatnot. But in the end, it just depends on what kind of villain intrigues you the most.

  • They say Ledger played a more insane Joker than Nicholson. I think the opposite. Ledger's is more serious, and more sadistic. He is crazy. But he has a logical motive. He ultimately wants to prove everyone has the potential to be a horrible, cruel monster (which IS true), by driving everyone to be so. Nicholson's is a different story. His motive is to basically kill people for the enjoyment and art of it. That's just SICK! He may look and act goofy. But that's because he thinks death is funny.

  • jack-more comic heath-more insane...heath is better....

  • I do agree with all of those who do not want to compare different stories and actors, but I can give the answer to WHO IS the real Joker, and the answer is Jack Nicholson! The character was originally inspired by "The Man Who Laughs", who is a disturbing figure with a permanent grin, JUST LIKE NICHOLSON'S JOKER!! Heath Ledger is a good character, but he's just a psyco with make up, he's not actually The Joker, even though he's a great character anyway!!! So, JACK NICHOLSON!!!

  • i thought heath ledger absolutely blew it away, i think Heath was by far the best joker EVER. it wasnt all corny and gay like other jokers, it had more of a REAL feel to it, like a "ok this guy could really exist" his acting was out of this world awesome in that movie, and the films sucess and the awards the film one pretty much speaks volumes on how the majority feel. top 10 best movie of all time rating. grossed over a BILLION worldwide. etc. Heath all the way, fuck Nicholson joker IMO.

  • its like Kirk vs Picard....their each from different generations THERE SHOULDN'T BE A FAVORITE!

  • they both win

  • Jack Nicholson was perfect for the 1980's Batman films, while Heath Ledger was perfect for the 21st Century audience.

  • both are awesome. jack nicholson face suitable to joker and heath ledger acting like a killer. both are awsomes.

  • I seriously don't understand this whole comparison deal with people. As time developed in comics we have seen different variations of the Joker. Tim Burton brought us the zany, comic antics of the Joker while still maintaining his unbalanced mentality. Nolan gave us the completely random, deeply psychotic aspect of the Joker that we would see in graphic novels like JOKER or Arkham Asylum. Die-hard Joker fans or not, you need to just come to terms that each actor portrayed the role faithfully

  • Nicholson, just as dark but much more fun!

  • No contest Jack all the way.

  • @tss77 I agreed with you on the "no contest" part, but then you mentioned some "Jack Nicholson" guy.

    Ledger FTW.

  • well jack played the real joker so id say him but mark hamill deffinatly has the best voice for the joker hands down

  • This really is tough, but I would say Ledger. He did fantastic. He was able to show a darker, more sadistic side of the Joker that isnt portrayed enough in Joker's past... Jack did great too, but I myself prefer the more realistic/dark approach that Ledger perfected :)

  • I'm sorry, but Hamil is the god damn boss at being the Joker. Nicholson doesn't even come close. Ledger was good though.

  • i think that ledger is a good jocker but Nicholson is way better

  • heath ledger without a dought the way he got into it was amazing espesially when he is talking about how he got his scars

  • Nicholson by far!

  • LEDGER ROCKS!

    NICHOLSON SUCKS!

  • Nicholson's rules!

  • Has anyone noticed the biggest flaw in Ledger's performance? his Joker RARELY smiles, maybe gives a slight grin. As shown in this photos, Ledger having delivered a good performance, failed to give it the right approach. Nicholson, being the legend he is, nailed both aproach and performance showing Joker's phisicality through laughter and smiles, not showing a smartass face all the time. Nowaday's kids like it better because it fits teen badass atittude. Nuf said.

  • @Kilovolver Not to mention Jack's acting voice is one of the best in history of film, its by far more compelling and rich than Ledger's, being Ledger's not bad at all

  • @Kilovolver He has a smile carved into his face he was smiling the whole time......I think he refferenced it you know a few times during the movie and all. He nailed the insane joker approach he made that movie and that role you are pretty far off base with your acting analysis, this being a very specific role with a personality that he hit head on sorry but he wouldn't have made it onto the set if he didn't have the right "approach" for the type of joker he played.

  • @jake314949 Nicholson's joker got a smile carved in his face too, but he's not always smiling, he acts the laughing and the smiling nonetheless and the difference is easily discernible, ledger rarely laughs or smiles for that matter. Anyway, in my humble opinion whoever provided the insane/moody joker approach failed. The joker shouldn't be fully a moody psichopath, nor a total laughing maniac, but a combination of the two.

  • @Kilovolver YOU NAILED IT BUB!

  • Jack Nicholson

  • the correct answer is Jack Nicholson

  • I like Jack Nicholson better. He embodied the essence of the joker character. He was actually funny and witty. Although I respect Heath's talent, if he were to take the makeup off in the Dark Knight he would be just another well acted psycho killer in a movie.

  • @Prophetess7 absolutely true, classic joker brought more of a mystery as to what the hell is he gonna do rather than directly showing the evil side

  • The question really is: "Do you prefer the comic Joker or the insane Joker?"

  • Its fucking 2012 almost, enough with the youtube slide shows. Provide some video or get the fuuuuck out.

  • Cesar Romero

  • I'm going to stay off the ban wagon and go with Nicholson and also give Mark Hamill a mention because I greatly enjoy his voice work.. I'd also like to note that I dislike star wars...

  • I choose Heath because the creepiness of the newer joker just adds to the whole psychopath character of The Joker. He has no motivation and does what he does simply because he can.

  • Between Nicholson and Ledger, I'd pick Nicholson, He seems more like the Joker I like the most, the one who is dangerous, but also funny.

I really liked Ledgers performance, but it was more creepy than funny. Plenty dangerous, though.

That said, Mark Hamill beats them both, voice-and-attitude-wise.

  • you cant really say who the best joker is, nicholson portayed the comic version of joker whereas ledger portrayed the darker more insane joker that was needed for the dark knights plot. thats like saying whos the better director which you cant choose either because each director from the batman movies saw it a different way. The movies are art and the actors that protrayed them were the directors tools. ledger portrayed the dangerous side of joker so well he drove himself insane unfortunately

  • @TELFORD88 Brilliantly said.

  • @TELFORD88 both movies touched on different exteriors of the joker's super sanity

  • @TELFORD88 lol are you kidding me? jack was good, but in no way was he closer to the comic. he was just playing a slightly more crazy jack. mark hamill wins anyway.

  • @MrBurgundy76 well unfortunately for you mr burgundy who by the looks of things is older than mark hamill, the question was who is better, heath ledger or jack nicholson. i see that 22 other people also agree with me, i bid you adieu

  • @TELFORD88 I agree with you its apples and oranges. The question shouldn't be who is the better joker, it should be which joker is better if we are going to be completely cut and dry about this. I personally prefer the Dark Knight joker because stirred more of an emotional response (fear/suspense). However, I disagree entirely with anyone who says that the role drove him insane.

  • @Guitarzan898 ledger was getting 2 hours of sleep a night because his mind was exhauhsted. he spent 3 months solitary in a motel to prepare for the roll. he wasn't going completely INSANE. but it did mess him up a little and contribute to his death. but it was still a good ass performance.

  • @TELFORD88 I agree with you.

  • The correct answer is Mark Hammil

  • @danathor99 why? he only did the cartoons.

  • @SteveSacred Mark Hamill's voicing made the character of the Joker complete, it fitted perfectly, it's alway his Joker, that i, and alot of other people will remember

  • @danathor99 The correct spelling is Mark Hamill

  • @LifeUniverseEverthin

Yeah, come back when you got 50 likes on a wrong-spelled comment, jerk

  • @danathor99 Thank you!

  • @KingerSays Yay! I'm glad some other people acknowledge Mark Hamill's performances as well.

  • Easy; Mark Hamill.

  • Nicholson was great. Ledger was great. Different interpretations. I'll say this: ledger was too young. Punk couldn't possibly have been that wily and grievance-filled

  • There was Oscar buzz for Nicholson in 1989

  • @sirbalsac they wanted a different type of joker for this film... They wanted a joker that had no master... He only answered to himself and no one else. And I'm curious... How did they dumb the joker down when they went with the original comic character. I don't think he was dumbed down.. Just simplified to a more chaotic form with no real goal other that to create a world without rules... To take the " schemers and turn their little plan on its head" heath even says "I'm a man of simple tastes"

  • Jack all the way. Heath Ledger didn't even play the Joker the way I see it, it was a completely different character.

  • HEATH ALL THE FUCKING WAY.

  • And the winner is..........

    Mark Hamill.

  • @ladyshadowslayer look at the original comic book character for the joker... It was actually the inspiration for the heath ledger joker... I'm just saying that... You are perfectly entitled to like jack and cesar because they were more like the comics you read when you first say the joker... But the ledger joker is near identical to the original comic book character... He came out in the 40's originally so its a common mistake...

  • @mtcp122 You seem to really know what you are talking about, too bad that DC thought that they would make more money if they dumbed down the Clown Prince of Crime, otherwise we might have had a better developed Joker.

  • @Boogyman4050 I'm doing a psychological analysis of the heath ledger joker for a behavioral science class I'm taking... The smeared make up is actually used to represent his mental deterioration throughout the movie... I finished the analysis and if you want I can email it to you at some point... It makes you look at the joker from a completely different point of view... When you actually look into this stuff they really did an amazing job with heath ledger and not many people know this stuff...
