The 17" of this iMac was my 1st Mac & the start of a serious Apple love affair. Since then had 12" G3 iBook, PowerMac G5 w/ 23" Cinema Display, 15" Powerbook & now consolidated to 15" Unibody MBP. Had 10GB 2nd Gen iPod, iPod Mini, 4th Gen iPod, & an original iPhone. Look forward to geting the new iPhone sometime this year. Bought some AAPL stock about the same time I got the iBook before it split last and made a ton of money, sold it before the recession hit & used money to weather the storm

I agree. I always admired them and finally got lucky the other week. Paid $100 for a perfect one, w/ keyboard & mouse. On Craigslist as a 15" with 40GB drive. Something looked odd though. When I got home I found it was a 17" 1GHz /80GB drive. I also downloaded a free desktop utility so I can use a 23" 2nd monitor as an extended desktop (not mirrored).

(ps to the design-phobic and rude philistines - my self-built quad core PC can kick its ass but for web surfing and non-gaming the iMac is fine)

Without a doubt the most beautiful desktop computers on the market, but their design is nowhere as revolutionary as the iMac G4 at the time. It was as if Apple took a trip in a time machine and took back with them a computer from the future. We had one at home and I remember people were amazed the "flatness" of the screen alone. Let alone that the computer was housed in the foot. There was nothing else like it back then.
