HAMTARO!!!!!! i mean the hamster.... hahahah... nice gear... i am thinking of this 17-55mm is usm f2.8 or the 24-105mm is usm L f4 coz they are about the same price.... in your opinion my good sir which lens would be better to get...? and i am currently using a Canon 550D.... Cheers!
@truknayr23 With the 24-105mm f4, you get half the light gathering capacity, and you lose the very wide angle focal lengths. But it zooms way in to 105mm which is great, and it's compatible if you ever upgrade to a full frame camera. I would consider getting the Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 OS
Oh I can't believe I didn't properly comment on this. The EF-S lens range is great but the only downside is that it wouldn't mount on a 1D/5D camera. I just bought myself a 10-22, and the quality is superb. it's such a shame that if you upgrade your camera to Full Frame or APS-H that you can't use EF-S. So I'm spending more money than I have to..
@xxgwyloxx Yes that certainly is true...but your lens will hold its value very well. You will be able to sell it on again for a good price. And, if you want ultra wide angles for a crop sensored camera then no full frame lenses will really do the job anyway (you need 10-12mm - there is a 12mm full frame Sigma lens available though)
I can't believe you find prices to be cheaper than home. I also live in Korea, but I find the prices to be extremely high (compared to Canada). Where do you buy your gear?
@dnwphoto no its everyone that is true nikon is better and it is image stabilized it's called vr (vibration reduction) and most pros don't really need becuase you will have a tripod well only if your serious
@EG33s "Its [sic] everyone that [sic] is true"? No offense, but you need to do your homework. Check on any independent lens testing website and you will see that, out of those two lenses, the Canon is sharper. The Nikon has horrible distortion. The Nikon does NOT have VR, as you claim (yes, I know what VR is). And if you were a pro, then you would actually know the value of image stabilization.
@p3p3jose Depends how much money you have, and what you want to do with your camera. Do you want to take pictures or video. Do you want good picture quality and shallow depth of field, or do you want a lens with a long zoom?
@christopherfrost I have 1300 but i don't know if buy the camera with the lense 18-135
or buy the body and then buy a good lense
i want to take good quality pictures and take some videos of (Brazilian jiu jitsu sport ) what is the best lense for this? please help me i am lost. And what page do you think is the shippest to buy this camera with the lense that you will suggest me please help me
@p3p3jose Do you mean 1300 US dollars? You should avoid the 60D and get a Canon 600D (T3i) instead. Option 1: I would buy a Sigma 17-50 f2.8 EX DC OS HSM lens. It will give you great picture quality and a nice wide aperture. Option 2: If you want to save a little money, then get the 600D with the 18-135mm kit lens - and you can also get a 50mm f1.8 lens, and maybe a microphone too. Actually...I'd do that
i know i was searching stuff to find good photography gear as im new to photography and my fiance brought mmy first slr ( a sony alpha a230 ) but im sorry i wasn't listening to nething u said because the guinea pig was to flipping cute not to look at!
I wonder why canon makes good cameras, camcorders, cables, hoods, some good cases whereas the camera bag from canon stinks, they make good things but for a bag, not so good, I would rather get a lowepro bag as a starting bag, A crumpler as a main bag and thinktank make bags for the professionals, well its just their rollers.
Is the guinea-pig also included in the camera bag contents? I'm stocking my bag up now and I need to know exactly what I should include, y'a know. I figured I could use him for 'out in the wild' nature shots when I can't seem to get a decent chipmunk in a tree picture.
@CYNFELYN23 Hehe...the price difference isn't THAT much to be honest ;) ...not now that the pound has dropped in value. I am soooo tempted by the Sigma 30mm 1.4...I always see it in the shops and I've come close to buying it many times. But my Canon 17-55mm f2.8 IS means that I wouldn't use the Sigma very often...

Is it just me or does nikon glass look much better than canon glass in the same price range. For example the nikon 17-55 2.8 vs the canon 17-55 2.8
