  • I FINALLY GOT OUT OF THE WEIRD YOUTUBE

  • When your swimming you guys put out the oxygen when the head is in the water? or just throw n get air when u put ur head out of the water?

    Sorry my english sucks D:

  • Great Info! Thank you.

  • Swimming is all about form. Thank you.... head down, don't severe arm stroke length, 5 feet ahead.

  • Your video went viral on Seychelles

  • maobah...anah ba jud...

  • why is it so damn difficult while swimming?!:/

  • excellent video, good job

  • good video

  • man this is nice

  • FIRST

  • I am a swimmer, i'm just bored and looking around youtube

  • @procyclingmanager08 great story can you tell it again please?

  • question: when do you breeth?

  • @labantolaban alot of videos say every third stroke....

but hey it depends on you...just don't wait untilll you need a breath to take it...just make it smooth so that you are not tired...

if you practice and push your self, you will see that you can swim all day long

  • i would like to join the pole shift survival group or start the new one.

  • This video helps our swimmers to understand the correct stroke path to get more power and less drag. We also show another video from YouTube from the great masters swimmer and coach, Karlyn Pipes-Neilsen. It gives our swimmers excellent visuals on what we want them to do in the water. So far, so good.

Tip 1: Early Vertical Forearm - Better Technique with Karlyn Pipes-Neilsen

watch the video and please vote in link bellow

  • Im prepairing this year, and have been taking Citruaid , which is a natural amino acid drink, I started trying it cause Sheila Taormina was taking it, and I was curious, I have had insane good reults with Citruaid compared to anything on the market, and I espeacially notice the extra natural energy when i need to go great distances like Tri's

  • hey douchebag instructor...cant hear you over the music jackass

  • @TheBlacksheep2020 who the heck cares? I can hear him fine. Sumthin wrong with ur ears?

If you hate this at the beginning or sumthing, why did you keep watching it then?

  • @252mystery i didnt keep watching it...only made it about 10 seconds..but thanks for your concern fag

  • cool

  • Extend arms to 170 degrees elbow flexion? That does not make sense at all. I've never seen a human that could flex the elbow to 170 degrees.

Is that supposed to be 170 degrees shoulder flexion??

  • thenoblequran (Ctrl+Enter)

  • Being tall such as 6ft is an advantage in swimming ?

  • @TheLeilisa I am doing 6ft and I was told by the instructor as I am currently taking lesson that the moment you master the technique it would be a lot easier.

  • so what about breathing techniques?

  • @laubeatz so far i have only posted 1 video. please check it out, 'swim front crawl swim freestyle animation' and let me know what you think. thanks, now, as for the breathing, just brush your hip aside and roll to air. sounds easy doesn't it. it is, but like all things it takes practice.as your elbow exits the water(after the 'pull' phase, your hand is naturally brushing aside your hip, roll to air here, front arm stays long as you breathe. good luck

  • Lol i can naturally float . Thank you for your tip you make swimming easier for me .

  • god i suck at swimming but need it so i shall press forward :)

  • @navycam4

I like your attitude. Keep going. Please check out my video on front crawl, 'swim frontcrawl swim freestyle animation',

It is about timing. In order for the hips to power the stroke, the arms have to be in a certain position just before the body roll. ( after what i call the swing and fold movement, others call it the catch phase)

let me know what you thought. thanks. from a swimming professional who geuinely cares about his pupils progression. nice one and happy laps.

  • Troféu Chico Piscina 2010 - Team São Paulo 4 x 100 Medley Relay

  • oh man, my instructor is such an idiot, but is the only one at my gym.

  • @Jamesyitu

instructor no good? i see that all the time, in the pool and in the gym. As a qualified swimming coach and personal trainer I am interested to know what it is about your teacher that falls short of the mark. Can you let me know, maybe with an example. On the positive side at least you managed to notice something was wrong. Well done.

By the way I have posted a video on swimming, 'swim front crawl swim freestyle animation', check it out and let me know your reaction. bye 4 now.

  • swimming is the best sport for your body

  • very good demonstration, thanks!

  • dang, i really need this. im in highschool and next semester swimming is required. almost everyone in my class knows how to swim. but i dont.. crap.. lol

  • @Bobbinskii same

  • i think you're putting too much into this.

i think that swimming should be a simple thing and shouldnt be overloaded with so much info.

whatever works for you should be good enough (if you just dont bend any limbs).

i mean, i dont do most of this and ive been swimming for 4 years

i have won many medals and still havnt changed my style of swimming

even if it might not be "correct"

swimming is the own person's style.

  • @muffinqueen10293 People who are looking for videos like this are usually triathletes looking to improve their times. You don't improve your time by ignoring bad habits that make you inefficient in the water. Swimming is definitely not a simple thing for most people, technique is more important in swimming than just about any other sport.

  • @mar504

check out my video, swim front crawl swim freestyle animation , I hope to show in very simple terms, linking the part body movement with the whole body movement. timing really.

let me know your response to it please. I want to be the best coach, so people can reach their potential. thanks

  • I never realized how inefficient swimmer I was until I attended a swim class with elite swimmers. This video gives me some pointers that I really need to take swimming to the next level.

  • very nice. thanks!

  • Hand-water entry is also ideally to be inserted thumb-first at an angle to the water-level.

  • many swim video`s on swim-video.ru

  • i love swimming vids

  • it is clear. thanks

  • Seriously.... Thank you so much. I've been trying several different techniques and still swim the same. I'm not a good swimmer, but love swimming cause it's a fun challenge. Thanks for the vid again.

  • Great tips!! Thanks Dave

  • Hey this is great - thank you so much!!

  • if one were to swim and lift weights the same day, which one should one do first?

  • @Fernandoandretn

Lift first dude, after swimming your muscles are very relaxed.

  • Thank you for your post.I'll try that tmr!I never put my face inside the water....maybe its because I don't have google's...lol.Need to buy googles...:D

  • Everything in the video makes sense to me as a begginer.

I really appreciate the time people takes to show us something good, with quality and with knowledge of matter.

I will use this to help my 7yo boy how to swim correctly.

    :D

  • I have a problem with left arm, cannot take it out of the water for elbow to appear first.I can only do it half the way if I turn my head left.

    any tipps???

  • i've used your tips for almost a year killer techniques that always progress. thank you

  • i can suk my own dick?

  • @5tonyvvvv good input

  • Thank you for posting! Very good advice! :)

  • very helpful!! Thank you!

  • Until a month ago, swimming for me was like drowning in a semi-straight line! I've been looking on Youtube for about an hour for something useful to help me improve. This series of vids is great.

  • Very helpful tips.

  • As a swimmer, I can fully say that he has most of his tips correct.

If you are learning how to swim, this would be a great way to learn. Beautiful strokes.

  • I have swimming next period in PE. This video is helping me prepare 5/5

  • Jesus is a mythical character designed to exploit weak minded humans for the benefit of greedy minded humans.

Leave the 'god bothering' off the NET mate. It's completely out of order.

  • Good comment Donster I am sick to death of these American psychos spouting their religious claptrap on youtube. They bring religion into EVERYTHING! Get over it and stop poluting my web pleasure with your mumbo jumbo.

  • @MinkymooThanks for your support. Do you live in Oz too?222

  • Helpful and informative video. Didn't know that you should look straight down. I always look 45deg in front of me.

  • wow I never realized how horrible my swimming technique was until I saw this. I should be working on it soon.

  • (-_-)

  • One of the great swim instructors. Listen up swimmers.

  • Excellent tips.

I can't fly, but swimming is the next best thing.... The water is my sky.

  • @cogiterium thats a nice thought lol

  • @cogiterium

    Wow cool sentence...

    is it from you?

  • @cogiterium it's the same for me !!

  • @cogiterium

thats the gayest thing ive ever heard

  • @cogiterium damn.. u must be a really good swimmer!

  • Thanks, hope this helps for the military!

  • i think its important to stretch your arms as much as you can that brings automatically your opposite shoulder out of the water and makes its easier to stroke...

  • thanks for this video.

  • i disagree with one thing in this, you should not keep your head straight down, it should be looking down and foreword sort of diagonally. if you have it straight down your whole head will be submerged creating more resistence. it might sound picky but if you want to reach the top level at swimming, you dont want to be adding a second every 100m to your time, which is what a bad head position can do.

  • he said about 6 ft ahead, i dont agree with not fully pulling, i believe you should extend your pull untill your arms can reach, and bring your arm back into the water keeping your elbow bent while putting your hand in streamlined

  • it depends wat distance your doing. if you're doing a 50m or 100m you dont need to get a full extension if it means you can get a faster stroke rate.

as a long distance swimmer myself i try to get a full extension and make the most of every stroke. this allows me to hav a slower stroke rate which is not as much hard work while still maintaining a decent speed.

  • and im talking about the back of your stroke as well as the front. my coach tells me i hav a very good reach at the front... i need to make sure i extend at the back as well...

something for me to work on :)

  • also rotating shoulders

  • hi mate

i wana do swiming as i cant run cuz my knees are hurtin

    does swiming help lose weight?

wats better to lose weight thru running or swiming?

  • yes swimming does help you lose weight as much as or even better than running. i suggest you join a swimming club because a lot of leisure swimmers find it hard to gain the full benefits of swimming without a coach.

you said your knees hurt when you run, you might find that if your shoulders are as weak as your knees they are likely to hurt while swimming. so i suggest you join a club so a coach can help you and remember to always do a warm up and cool down.

  • hi adam

Thanks for the reply mate, much appreciated.

I will do, your right about needing a coach. I always noticed when i used to go swimming that you see a lot of overweight people who are really good swimmers so I used to wonder if swimming actually helps you lose weight cuz if it did thne why are these really over weight people really good swimmers?

Also, if my knees are hurtin and are clicking?possibly arthritus would I still be able to swim? and would swiming make them worse?

    Thanks

    Kas

  • @kasim1k, actually swimming is a great alternative to swimming because of your knee problem. But, you would burn more calories by running. Why? Because when you are in the water, the water is constantly cooling you down so there is really no need for your body to work extra hard to cool it. After even an hour of running, your body continues to burn calories up to an hour or so. The best way to burn fat while swimming is to swim long distances slowly then work your way up to higher speeds.

  • What a load of bullshit.

  • @kasim1k

running but its probably bad for your knees..

  • thanks mate

  • @kasim1k...

Every kind of sport helps you to loose weight... is this question serious? ^^

I prefer swimming, cause running overloads the joints... just watch videos here and think about it how to improve the technique, then i will work...

  • cheers mate

what would you suggest will be better to lose wieght thru, fast paced swimming or slow long swimming?

    thanks

    kas

  • I read a lot about this... its not good to swim or run fast. it may reduce muscles and not fat. swim normal pace and make sure you dont pant too much.

  • the best is to do workouts and swimming... thats what i do. a body with more muscles burnes more calories. thats why this combination is the best to loose weight. make sure you eat enough proteins(egg-white)... thats essential to build muscles. 3 time a week swimming and 2 or 3 time workout is enough... you will find many thread if you google a bit. ;)

avoid pizza, coke, burger and that stuff... and be patient. thats all...

  • cheers mate,

i need to pateint with my diet as i do have loads of fast food unfortunatly

thanks you for sharing/advising your knowledge with me

    thanks

    kas

  • you are welcome...

feel free to write me a message if you have a question.

  • i will do, ta

    thanks mate

    kas

  • when you move your body, it uses energy. i think the best answer to your question is another question what do you want to achieve? if you want the body of a sprinter fast paced swimming is your answer, if you want the body of the long distance runner, slow paced long swimming. either case you will certainly be doing yourself some good.

  • both, your muscles will even out better

  • The example swimmer drops his elbow ;) it look horrible lol

  • I cant wait to jump in a swimming pool, gosh I miss the water XD

  • Thanks.That was very helpful. : )

  • thanks so much for postin this video..i was strugglin tryin to do too much at the same time. before this video swimmin like a baffling event/

  • I SO appreciate the free tips on youtube. Money's tight these days so it's really a fantastic thing helping us swimmers out like this. Cheers for giving to the sport.

  • Good stuff from Mr. Scott! Thanks!

  • Very useful and concise.

  • Great video! Keep them coming!

  • because cianwash there is a line at the bottom of the pool and a t right before the wall. i swim

  • if you're supposed to keep you're head down than why do some swimmers (Ian Thorpe) keep their head facing forward??

  • when???? watch all his race videos again

  • I found this to be very insightful for a real amateur. But when going from recovery to catch phase, what was meant by extending to 170 deg elbow flexion? That threw me, because elbows don't flex to 170. They sometimes extend to 190 in hyperextension. I take it you meant 170 shoulder flexion. I'm not sure my shoulders would go another 10 degrees if I wanted to.

  • I thought he said 107* not 170.

  • I've been thinking about that. I think he means the angle between the whole arm (not just elbow) and shoulder. Your arm hanging at your side would be 0º. Arm in line with your torso, directed straight forward (parallel to the surface), would be 180º. He advises to extend your arm so it ends up a little more angled down than than just straight forward, that's the 170º.

Another way of looking at this is what "Total immersion" recommends: just find the arm angle at which you feel balanced.

  • Many times, being a champion doesn't mean to has a great tecnique, being a champion means to has a lot of things. Obviously, there is not just one perfect tecnique, some tips maybe different,e.g. A.Popov & I.Thorpe...Anyway, I'm agree with cianwash: when you swim your head shouldn't be facing down, not just to avoid to crash against a pedal boat or the swimming pool wall, but it's usefull to keep a good streamline position...But we have2remeber that swimming in the sea is different from pool...

  • Very helpful, thank you!

  • Yes you do, otherwise you aren't doing the stroke properly and you are making it incredibly uncomfortable for yourself.

Did you read the description? "Six-Time Ironman Champion..." I'm sure Dave Scott knows what he is talking about.

  • how should you know if you aren't going to hit something if you are not looking forward?

  • tilt your head just enough to see where you are going of course lol

  • exactly - I'm hoping you aren't swimming in an environment that you are completely oblivious too.

That's why there are markings on the bottom of a swimming pool, so you have an estimate as to how far away from the wall you are.

  • thank you so much sooo helpful

  • very helpful...the fine points really help..its was great learning tips...thanks!!

  • very useful information

  • WOW! I am trying to learn how to swim- and this video was SO helpful!! Thankyou!

  • ran with Dave few times back in time in Davis, CA. GREAT guy, humble, knows a lot, great example for everybody. Take care ,from your brazilian buddy Cesar now living in San Diego. I hope you are doing well.

  • great video thanks

  • y was she wearing a aqua blade in practice

  • I was born in the water....haha...

  • I don't completely agree with taking my hands way out of the water at 170 but everyone has their own style and should do what works for them. anyway, this guy is right about the basics for freestyle/front crawl... practice is best of course

  • Do you swim

  • yes. swam since I was 4...not saying much I suppose since I'm 18 :D

    I assume you do?

  • yes

im 18 tooo jajaa ive been swimming sice i was 2 ......

  • good for you :D

  • I started swimming in the Year of Constantine 306 A.D. and have been ever since. I am 1,702 years old. ;) So ha got you all beat.

  • Im laughing......in the inside.........jaja

  • I really think that you shouldn't be keeping your head down. I'm on a swim team now and our coatch tells us to look forward a little. So that our heads are more arrow-dinamic in a way.

So this may or may not be right, but personally, looking a bit forwards makes me go faster.

  • i agree.

  • me too

  • I utterly agree with you. I had been a swimmer once and was told to keep my head a bit lifted, to look in front of me. With the head down it actually means to have a greater water resistance

  • aero-dynamic

  • hydro-dynamic....

  • exactly

  • aero is AIR...lol you meant aqua-dynamic LOL:) but i knew what you were talking about :)

  • yeah, try hydrodynamic...

  • ya! that too! LOLOL

  • how many olympic athletes do you see swimming with their head straight down?

  • actually thats the way you're suppose to.

  • this video was very useful to me so thanks

  • oh my god SHUT UP YOU RETARDED KID

  • thanks alot dave made me go from 24sec to 22sec flat

  • In my case the high elbow is great for 50m. For a long swim (and of course slow), it's not ok as I get tired too soon.

    ANyone agreeing with me?

  • No... don't. the elbow stays up, you will get stronger....

  • super. thanks. cristian

  • useful tips and yet to try them out ;)

  • really useful,effective tip.

  • THANKS! helped me break my really slow time of 36:48 time for 50 free down to everyone else in my age group YEA FOR A RELAYS!!!

  • i cant wait to be in the olimpics when im older!!!!!!i swim for lake isle!!!!!!!division 1 undefeded champs!!!!!!!i luv 2 swim!!!!!!!!<333

  • Really helpful video that - many thanks. Can't wait to get back to the pool :)

  • Man! This video helped a lot! I just took about 5 seconds off my 100m freestyle time! Thanks!

  • this stroke isn't really for a 100m sprint. in a 100 look at getting your arms going like a windmill and keeping your head still. you should aim to break your 50m pb in the 1st 50 and go on the break your 100m pb through sheer speed of rotation and kick.

  • Thanks!

  • It's simple, but good enough.

  • This video is exelent. I defenetly will be using the information on this video at the YMCA. Thank's guy in the video who I have no idea who he is.

  • Thanks, I just took a minute and a half off my 1500m time from watching this! cant believe the difference it made!

  • good ... man .. you are skinny, no wonder you are the ironman champ .. lol :P

  • awesome video.. i will teach to my kids this teachnique

  • great video'

  • Excellent, thanks very much!
