After watching this video it seems to me that HP and Microsoft has nothing to fight against the iPad except holding on to Flash as a last resort. The Flash "game" shown here is a shame -- who wants to play that "game" as opposed to those hi-res 3D games on the iPad? And as many of you guys pointed out here, you can see from the video that the response of the Slate is slow. Not even to mention the near zero maintenance of the iPad vs Windows-based platform. Can Flash alone win the battle?
Ok. For all of you who are saying it will destroy the iPad you are probably wrong. Apple still has the multi-touch. Also the HP slate has a 5 hour batterie. The iPad batterie is 2X that. Apple also sold over 450,000 iPads on the first week. The HP slate is also almost exactly like the iPad. The only difference is the brand and the fact it has flash.the You also have to face the fact. Books do not matter. Games do. The iPad wins with batterie and the games. I think the iPad wins by far.
@arishatkin The HP slate is NOWHERE NEAR the same as the iPad. It runs Windows 7, a FULL operating System, unlike iPad which runs iPhone OS. If you have a windows machine, you kind of already have a data base with a lot of games that you can play, unlike Apple and their App Store.

Web Browsing? Firefox, Chrome. The fact is HP Slate can do anything a computer can do besides high end gaming. HP Slate > iPad

Slate doesnt appear to be as "snappy" as iPad, but still looks cool.... if the Slate can do mobile internet (3G), then it might have a chance at competing with the iPad.

You can't really compare this to the iPad, as this is a computers, and the other isn't. It looks great, though I have no interest in getting one. I've got a tablet from HP, and I can easily say that it is the best computer I've used by far. Not the most powerful, but the experience is great. I'm sure the slate will be at least equal to it, but the lack of key-board is too much of a change for me.
It does look a bit slow, but in the end I'd much prefer a device like this, or a better tablet PC version, over the iPad.
Apple's technology may be incredible, but their software is beyond limiting. The user cannot customize their experience anywhere near enough. If Apple don't get over their obsession with controlling everything they're going to suffer in the end. Technology isn't meant to hamper user experience, it's meant to expand it; to make MORE possible, not less.

But we also love to use it for entertainment. Did you get it right. Most of the consumers are not IT professional like you or graphics artist. and wondering why other brands are pushing to multitouch which they think before not as a help to make money. We are not talking about to look smart we are looking for more options for control.

Why do apple don't want to collaborate with Adobe to have flash support to all their devices?? That would really suck apple thinks that people will follow on what they want to do... After watching this video it seems to me that HP and Microsoft has nothing to fight against the iPad except holding on to Flash as a last resort. The Flash "game" shown here is a shame -- who wants to play that "game" as opposed to those hi-res 3D games on the iPad? And as many of you guys pointed out here, you can see from the video that the response of the Slate is slow. Not even to mention the near zero maintenance of the iPad vs Windows-based platform. Can Flash alone win the battle?

Ok. For all of you who are saying it will destroy the iPad you are probably wrong. Apple still has the multi-touch. Also the HP slate has a 5 hour batterie. The iPad batterie is 2X that. Apple also sold over 450,000 iPads on the first week. The HP slate is also almost exactly like the iPad. The only difference is the brand and the fact it has flash.the You also have to face the fact. Books do not matter. Games do. The iPad wins with batterie and the games. I think the iPad wins by far.

@arishatkin The HP slate is NOWHERE NEAR the same as the iPad. It runs Windows 7, a FULL operating System, unlike iPad which runs iPhone OS. If you have a windows machine, you kind of already have a data base with a lot of games that you can play, unlike Apple and their App Store.

@macchelsea You can play a lot of games without a decent graphics card. Even if it did have no graphics card that doesn't mean that its going to be used for JUST gaming. HP overall has WAYY more usability than the iPad just because it runs a full fledged operating system. Its not just about gaming. What about office applications? Slate can run Office 2010 perfectly. Web Browsing? Firefox, Chrome. The fact is HP Slate can do anything a computer can do besides high end gaming. HP Slate > iPad

The iPad from its very beginning isn't designed to be a tablet PC. Period. It won't replace my MacBook Pro and that's what the genius is. Remember this: Steve Jobs will NEVER let two Apple products compete against themselves. You have to buy both. Not with a tablet PC and Windows notebook.

You can't really compare this to the iPad, as this is a computers, and the other isn't. It looks great, though I have no interest in getting one. I've got a tablet from HP, and I can easily say that it is the best computer I've used by far. Not the most powerful, but the experience is great. I'm sure the slate will be at least equal to it, but the lack of key-board is too much of a change for me.

It does look a bit slow, but in the end I'd much prefer a device like this, or a better tablet PC version, over the iPad.
Apple's technology may be incredible, but their software is beyond limiting. The user cannot customize their experience anywhere near enough. If Apple don't get over their obsession with controlling everything they're going to suffer in the end. Technology isn't meant to hamper user experience, it's meant to expand it; to make MORE possible, not less.

Okay, I do admit that the Slate isn't as good looking as the iPad, but unlike Apple products the Slate is not meant to be just a fashion statement. It actually does something. And maybe the touch isn't as responsive as the iPad, but you don't need to buy add-ons to get USB support or a webcam.
