  • Had an opportunity to Mr. Goesllin in person in Yuma, AZ a few years ago.

Still have the authographed CD that I purchased from him.

Excellent musician........I really like his style of playing the "Stick".

  • Some of you have wondered what piece I am playing on this video and the name is Si Beag Si Mhor written by Tourlough O'Carolan in 1688. Some of you were wondering about the tuning of my Stick on this video and it's basically the "classic" tuning of reverse perfect fifths on the bass side and perfect fourths on the melody side. I want to thank everyone for all your compliments over the last three years. It's greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Leo Gosselin

  • @tmuse12 Do you have music for it, or did you play by ear?

  • @TheGiantPony1 You can find the melody in a number of Celtic Harp, Irish whistle or Irish fiddle books. I worked out this arrangement myself for my grand stick.

  • Would love to hear this played on Bob Culbertson's AcouStick. What tune is this anyway?

  • never seen one of these before how is it played

  • Very nice, Leo!

  • good, but too simple

  • pobre tipo...se tienen que ir a tocar afuera?!!?!?!? hay que prender fuego a todas las familias!!!

  • Awesome music! I saw him today while walking downtown Gig Harbor. I even bought one of his cds. Great music.

  • A light breeze, green fields, flowers ang butter flies...

  • Beautiful. Just beautiful.

  • I'm selling my chapman stick.

Don't hesitate contact me for further details.

  • Whats the name of this tune?

Listened through all of the soundclips on his homepage, couldnt find it : (

    Please tell me

  • @Gandor83 Shee Beg Shee Mhor is the title.

  • The stick's pretty much a guitarist's piano. I WANT ONE!!!!

  • a very nice rendition of Si Beag Si Mor... a Turlough O'Carolan tune written for the harp. Nice that Leo chose it... one of my favs... nice job Leo!

  • wonder how it would sound if Jimi Hendrix played Chapman stick instead of Fender.

  • Not as good as Leo =]

  • Now here goes a big one

  • Don't be a smartass. Not everyone has well-developed ears. Some people watching might not even play an instrument and just be curious

  • The bass side it tuned in 4ths. The treble side is tuned in 4ths and 5ths i believe

  • bass side is in 5ths, treble side is in 4ths

  • The bass side, starting from the middle of the Stick, gets higher by a fifth for each string. The melody side is tuned in fourths, like a guitar, but with out the major third tuning the guitar has between the 2nd and 3rd string.

  • what amp is that in the back?

  • I want a fucking chapman stick! I think listening to this converted me from piano to stick just like that!

  • words can't express what you just sang with that gorgeous melody

  • Very cool, and well played! I prefer sticking to bass...but I love tapping.

  • dude 7 string bass tapping sounds awsome though

got the umph that this thing doesnt have

but chapmen sticks do sound real nice

  • very beutilfull

  • Very Alex De Grassi/ Medieval/ Classical ballad.

  • More women should use a chapman stick !!

  • nice guitar braski

  • This songs is as happy as the last day of school, I could listen to it forever.

  • i love the chapman stick

  • Sorry in advance that I do not know everything. Please, please, don't call me retarded. I just want to know; how do

these chapman sticks work, and is it anything like an electric guitar?

  • Similar. The Chapman stick has a pickup just like an electric guitar. It runs through an amp the same. However, the Chapman stick (someone correct me if I'm wrong) is intervalled at perfect 5ths for each string. You tap the instrument instead of picking the notes, and it has a much wider range. It will pick up the notes when you tap them as well.

  • Comment removed

  • Actually, you are 50% right in that the "bass" side is usually tuned to 5ths but the "treble" side is usually tuned to 4ths. There are variations on this for certain idividuals but the 4ths/5ths thing is pretty standard.

  • backwards

  • ????

  • That was lovely. I can barely play my 10-string Stick, the 12 would boggle my mind.

  • for a moment i thought he was eric clapton........he seems so at home

  • Nice...

Like the NM shirt, too =( )=

  • sounds good

  • nice beard mate

  • What do you mean? Govt put the brakes on what? I guess I don't follow....

  • Nice stuff--the Chapman is definitely the Jetson's instrument of the space age(too bad our govt put the brakes on that!) Leo plays with sensitivity and mature technique--amazing what people can do when they put their hearts and minds in the right place!

  • holy crap?! :O :P

  • Pretty. Real pretty. Now play a flute at the same time through your nose.

  • Beautiful, really! I love your tone on the instrument; keep it up!

  • This is a beautiful rendition of "Sidh Beag, Sidh Mohr" - gorgeous

  • Amazing!

  • Masterfully played. Very beautiful. Is this your composition? Anyone ever tell you you look like Eric Clapton? ;-)

  • fantastic thats all I can say, and the outdoors just adds to the vibe of the song.

  • saw Leo play just a month or so ago in Tubac, Arizona...he is good...

  • jävla mupp

  • Sweet... tout simplement.

  • Nice job, man. One of my favorite trad songs. Nice interpretation. Marvelous Stick technique!

  • Beautiful man, who wrote that song? Mark Knopfler?

  • Knopfler? WHATTHAF***? The music is "Si Bheag Si Mhor" by Turlough O'Carolan who was a blind, itinerant Irish harpist and composer, considered to be Ireland's national composer. He died in 1738.

  • I've looked all over the internet for other versions, but I can't find anyone that comes close to playing it as beautifully as Leo Gosselin does here.

  • Bob Culbertson is the only one that comes close or equal to.

  • That's great, but why outdoors, dude?! Get this in a quiet studio.

  • Since it's an electrical instrument, I doubt that the acoustic will have much effect on it...

  • Obviously it was some sort of festival...

  • INCREDIBLY beautiful !!!

  • here here!

  • SOunds like canon sorta

  • he looks like eric clapton and martin sheen's love child... but he can play!!!

  • oh wow..

lovely. i can't get enough of this.. amazing.

  • he looks like clapton

  • maybe because hes the clapton on the chapman stick and this is his "tears in heaven"

  • Amazing!

Stick is a very versatile instrument.

Classical baroque pieces like that or progressive rock, like what Tony Levin do are very very good to hear...

Abt the video, incredible playing! Very beautiful piece!
