The audience is not shouting in approval for nothing... Definitely a 5 for characterization and at least a 4 1/2 for the singing. What I so much like about him is that his voice is just placed perfectly, and that allows him the easy high register and expansion. His singing is not coming "from the throat" at all.
Great British Verdi baritone. Greatly missed.
