  • This song puts me in Major depressive disorder.

  • I always sing this song to my girlfriend and she always kisses me after haha

  • Holy Jesus Individuell86!. This Video really Got a Hold on Me, in my soul and mind. Thank you. Thank You Very Much.

  • @MrCapi55 my pleasure :)

  • patsy cline

    sweet dreams

  • Detroit Rules,Supremes Rule

  • A very demure version of Smokey and the Miracles song by The Supremes!..

  • @Terrilliser they tried to let it sound more like a rock-ballard with some pop-influence

or in other words to let it sound beatles-like

that fixed perfectly with the other stuff from the A Bit Of Liverpool album

  • love this cover

  • I always thought "A Bit Of Liverpool" was the worst Lp the Supremes ever released

  • @MotownMaster I checked out the album again a few days ago

and yes... compared to the other stuff this is maybe their worst

but it isn't only their singing on some songs, but mostly the arrangement and mixing

however their are about 3 songs that are good

this one, can't buy me love and you can't do that

but I really don't like bits and pieces and how do you do it

their version of house of the rising song is okay...

  • i think i like this more then smokies version harmonys are deadley :) xx

  • Supremes - Do a great job on this - AND - everything else they sang!!

I'm not mad at any of them, but I like Diana Ross the most!

  • @keenan243 lol I don't even get what he's trying to tell us...

  • COCKSUCKER

  • @huge10inchdick thanks honey

  • @huge10inchdick ur the fag..... watchin dianna ross and the supreams u spanner

  • @huge10inchdick TAKE THAT!

  • @huge10inchdick you surely must be referring to yourself?? i mean, look at that username??

  • .•´♥`*.♥ *´,•*´¨♥¸.• ♥ ´

  • there can only be one supreme leader.

  • Kool! Motown at least on record was rock and roll!

  • @hellonyhello lol they recorded nearly every genre

  • Listened to this by quite a few different artists, haven't found better than the Small Faces version.

  • sing flo!!!!!!! i love her etta jame style voice...i wish forence would have done more etta james type material wen she left the supremes..she would have tore it up!!

  • @MrKwEsI91 yes something really soulful... that's true but she was a soprano anyway not like etta

ABC didn't use her voice she really wasn't bad singing in her alto-range but in her soprano range she kicked asses :D

  • Supreme beats destiny's child anyday!

  • @IdealThinker I think the same way

I think destiny's child were good singers and a good group but the music of the supremes and their voices how they fixed together is much more what I like than this "new modish stuff"

  • @IdealThinker beat them at what and wheres the contest ???

  • nice upload. If it wasnt for SMOKEY these girls wouldnt of been anyone.

  • FIRME

  • Great pics! Thanks for posting.

  • @fuckwitit10

    thanks :)

  • @Individuell83

    lol, enjoy, hehe

  • @fuckwitit10 watch your language u immature punk

  • @fuckwitit10 ur parents probably didn't raise u right huh?

go back to school and learn some manners hoe

  • She.s alright!! ohhh. I dont like you but I love you..seems that Im always thinking of you...oh u treated me awful but I love you madly anyhow.. someplace somewhere someone is thinking of your smile.... ; - )

  • @k8ycreates

hes smokey wrote great lyrics :D

  • You know what? I would hurry home from school just to catch them on their time slot on the radio where they would play a lot of their songs.3 of their songs played in an hour would make me extremely happy! Then I would just content myself listening to the radio hoping the next time slot would play even 1 song of theirs! Crazy isnt it? We do a lot of crazy stuff when we are young!

  • @npenciso

haha what a great story :D

I think it was great back then

I mean the positive thing today is you can listen to their stuff on youtube or deezer not in high quality but the sound is alright

the point which is much more sad is that such great music isn't played anymore in the radio... maybe in the usa but not in germany where I live.

not even such great music isn't produced anymore

  • this song's got a hold on me.

  • @WannaBewithChuckB

    lol

    it's a nice one :)

  • damn i want hair like that they r big pimpin

  • @rezzedout1

you need a brush or curlers

and a hairdryer and hairspray xD or simply a wig like they did :D

  • beatles got it better :) still good though

  • @abot1011

    I like all versions

but don't forget that the miracles recorded it first :P

  • What a great video and sound! I love

  • @yeksirf

I'm glad you enjoy it :D

  • Great cover of the Miracles and Smokey ofcourse!

  • it really is :D

  • This type of music isn't dead. You just have to know where to look. Check out Raphael Saadiq's lastest album and Mayer Hawthorne. And to TasteOfTorment, "rap" is bad but not hip hop. In fact if you listen to the good hip hop that is out there (not rap) then you will realize that many of the artists get inspiration from this era of music.

  • not even rap always have to be bad when the supremes recorded "the ballad of davey crocket" both mary and flo had rap parts in it it was some kind of early rock

    and

did you ever hear about paolo nutini? he's a great singer his music has some ska reggae blue eyed soul and also folk music in it really great combination if you check out his sunny side up album that I have on vinyl :P

  • This was the only decent track from A Bit Of Liverpool, that Lp never should have been released, i love The Supremes but that was just an awful album

  • I don't think it was that bad... I don't like the first and the last song from the album they're really not that nice but stuff like can't buy me love this one or you can't do that are not really bad I think

the cream of the crop (crap) album was much more bad :D

  • omg omg flo and mary's voice. so heartfelt! pure bliss ;]

  • it really is :D I can tell you

you can mostly hear them on the early albums where did our love go, the supremes sing country western and pop or more hits and also on a bit of liverpool or we remember sam cooke :D

  • are you sure it isnt originally theirs? the beatles loved their version of this song

  • did I say the beatles did the original if yes then I'm dumb xD the original was by smokey robinson and the miracles :)

  • Nothing like that hot Detroit sound :D

  • yes you can really say the detroit sound was hot :D

you could say motown had it's own grenre that consisted out of GREAT R&B with influence of gospel, soul and pop

  • Yeah, the only complaint I have now it where it is now. With all the bad rap and stuff

  • yes we would need something like that today

    but it's gone...

  • D: I know.

  • lol I'm sure somewhere out there are some great soul singers who love to sing traditionally soul and R&B ... but that's not what the music industry want to produce...

  • Ok I will later :D don't have time now I'm a bit stressed still need to wrap the presents :D

  • I'm glad you like it :)

  • Well my friend - I have been away for a little bit and when I come back it seems that you have been very busy posting lots of GREAT early songs from the Supremes. So many that I have never heard before. Thank you - you are so great!

  • lol thanks a lot :D and welcome back

but in fact I didn't post new stuff since month I don't know why I'm not really in the mood to make videos I'm really to lazy :D

  • Lazy? You? No I don't think so young man. Maybe I just did not see all that you had posted before. I'm a little/alot older than you and do not know my way with the computer. The holidays are coming. Is that bothering you?

  • lol not at all I can't wait to get holidays :D

sadly I am lazy if I have nothing to do I always lie on my bad :D

what do you do on christmas?

  • Glad you are looking forward to the holidays. What do I do on Christmas? It really depends where I am. I try to spend time with my family where there it lots if cooking and eating and drinking and loving each other. Then I try to get back to NYC to see my friends there. What do you do?

  • oh that sounds good :D

well maybe you know we in germany get presents on the 24th on Christmas Eve and not on the first christmas day like you in the USA canda or the UK :D so on the 24th I'll be at home and we'll have gift giving then my sister and I go to my father and have gift giving there and after that to my grandma :D

on the first christmas day my mum my sister and my mums boyfriend go to my grandma where the rest of the family is and watching old self-made films from the 70's :D

  • and party christmas with my mum's family on the second christmas day well go again to my other christmas where the rest of my fathers family will be and havin gift giving again :D

it's a bit confusing but I think it will be nice just sad we never have snow on christmas =(

  • It sounds that your family has traditions that they follow for Christmas. I'm glad you will be spending time with you family for the holidays. And just for you, I wish that there will be snow for you to make you happy! Merry Christmas!

  • lol thanks :)

my grandma is from czech republic. She came to german in 68 and since then she said there was never snow on the 24th once there was snow on the second christmas day I think it's about 6 years ago :D it was nice I remember we lived in a flat at this time and it was a house on a hill and the cars which wanted to drive the street up all slipped back down the hill because there was ice on the street and we used it to sit on our bottoms and slipped down the hill :D

  • That sound like a good memory. Especially sliding down the hill on you bottoms.

  • lol yes it was would be nice to go back...

you know this feeling if you think everytime back then it was nicer and you feel that today isn't that nice anymore but a few years later you think that even the year before was nicer and you think every year is getting more and more bad...

sounds strange I know :D but I remember how nice it was back then and how it is today....

  • I feel the same way about memories sometimes - that times in the past are better than what is happening now - and when you look back in the future on what is happening today it will seem better than now. Not sure why that happens. I think that is why I have been enjoying our conversation and the music you have been posting - it reminds me of the past when I was younger and more innocent? Take care friend.

  • thanks for this really nice comment :) however I grew up in the 90's I really don't like most music of the 90's all those unreal instruments and the rhythms but it's still nice to listen to it sometimes because it brings back memories :D

  • album filler. Motown loved to issue albums with two great songs and 10 filler songs. For some strange reason there was an exception...the Temptations had some early albums loaded with great material...a great value..

  • lol thanks for the info

but they knew how to make albums interesteing that people buy them :D

  • Great recording by Diana Ross & The Supremes

  • thanks I'm glad you like it

  • wow!

  • lol yes

I'm glad you like it :D

  • Someone thought the Supremes couldnt sing, but that the Beatles could, WOW. LOL. The Supremes are light years ahead of the Beatles int he vocal department R&B singers can sing circles around pop singers any day of the week

  • well I think both were good groups

  • Although the Supremes are my FAVOURITE group ever, and I want to place them about all others, I do have to say in the Beatles defense that they were some trail-blazers too

  • amen

  • @tuzwol

well, the beatles could sing any genre they wanted.

they have some of the best vocal harmonies in rock, but noone compares to the beach boys, brian wilsons vocal arrangements put phil spector to the wall.

  • @OropherThranduil ,maybe no one in the rock department or the pop department maybe, the vocal harmonies of the Doo-Wop/ R&B groups cant be matched

  • @tuzwol

listen to good vibrations, with sometimes 4 seperate vocal lines singing at the same time, and still it all blends perfectly together.

also the everly brothers were huge pioneers of harmony singing, just like the four freshmen and many many more.

  • @OropherThranduil ,the Mills Brothers were pioneers,so were the Harmonizing Four, The Five Blind Boys,Doo-Wop groups and gospel groups as well. Lots of pioneers

  • @OropherThranduil ,The Platters as well ,the Drifters,Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers, The Dells, The Cardinals,The Robins,The Ravens and many other doo-wop groups as well.

  • @tuzwol

i also like the Linda und The Evening Birds and the weavers

they made the first recordings of lion sleeps tonight in africa and the weavers brought it to america i think.

  • Comment removed

  • no, "Mbube" (Zulu: lion) was written in 1939 by Solomon Linda and performed by his group, the Evening Birds. "Mbube" became a hit throughout South Africa: it sold about 100,000 copies during the 1940s; and it lent its name to a style of African a cappella music which evolved into isicathamiya.

then Alan Lomax brought the song to the attention of Pete Seeger of the folk group The Weavers around 1950.

then New lyrics to the song were written by George David Weiss, Luigi Creatore and Hugo Peretti.

  • Comment removed

  • @tuzwol

those newly written lyrics to Mbube where the Lion sleeps tonight, the complete melody of the song is taken from Mbube.

you can find it on youtube.

the tokens recorded Mbube with the newly written lyrics and title.

  • @OropherThranduil THAT IS THE SAME THING WITH AMAZING GRACE. ON THE SHIPS THE CHAINED PEOPLE WERE singing with no words. mmm, moaning, and words was added, and then called Amazing Grace. AND IT IS LIKE THE LION SLEEPS TONIGHT. ALL HAVE SONG IT AND CLAIMED IT.

  • @sharonanony

no, linda wrote the song, that's a fact.

it's not like the house of the rising sun.

it's well documented and you can'<t tell me the lions didn't know about that.

  • @tuzwol didnt know that but it doesnt surprize me. they did alot of unjust things back then and motown was no exception.

  • If anyone has ever read my comments I have never critize or told anyone what they should like about the Supremes or any other artists or even their life style. I like the Supremes singing the Classic IV song call Stormy.

You have people who think that the Beatles were better singings then the Supremes. You have some people who think that Vandelles or The Chentels or Sherrills or EnVogue and do I dare to say Destiny Child aree better singing them the Supremes but that their opinion.

  • that's true

I mean I like most of the bit of liverpool album I don'r really like how do you do it and pieces and bits is also not really my style but songs like the house of the rising song is REALLY good by the supremes.

I also don't like heatwave by the supremes the instrumental is a bit boring the lead not really powerful and the backing too less and quiet on the stereoversion I don't know the mono one

I also don't like their version of in my lonely room no passion in the lead boring

  • instrumental and the backing is nearly lost... also the version of these boots are made for walking is not the best in my opinion it's one of diane's solo while she was still with flo and mary without backing a bit too soft lead and well the instrumental is ok

but there are soo many songs which are amazing I love "you're gonna come to me" of which were minimum 3 versions which were all great but never released

also the ballad (let me hear you say) I love you STUNNING ballard but never released

  • so I think there are songs from every artist which were maybe not the best or the best covered version of a song...

but I think most of the supremes stuff is still great

  • I can respect your opinion. You like everyone else have a right to feel they way you do about the Supremes style of singing whether it be Diana doing lead or Jean Terrell or whoever did lead singing for the Supremes.

I guess I did not care for The Supremes singing Beatles's songs because as a kid back them I didn't think they could sing. There about 5 songs that I like by the Beatles. I like Diana & The Supremes singing Does your Momma Know About Me.

  • well I mostly like stuff before the name changed into diana ross and the supremes

not because of the name or cindy

it's simply because I love to her flo's voice in the backing and not the andantes ... sadly you mostly can't her cindy on supremes songs with diane

and also HDH left the same year flo left and the wrote most of the songs which I like =)

  • It seem that I have upset The Fuckdaddy with a comment about this song recorded by Diana Ross and The Supremes. It so sad that one has use foul language and make statements that are not true. I think Mary and Flo can sing certain songs very well and then their others song they should not sing. I never did like the Supremes singing any of the Beatles songs when I was kid. However there are 2 songs that I think they did well Michelle and Yesterday.

  • Comment removed

  • Flo looks a lot like Rosie Perez. Or Rosie looks like Flo, ha. She was beautiful!

  • a bit yes =)

they also say flo looks like faith evans

  • I love to hear Mary sing the lower harmony in the mic! And I hate when people say that Flo and Mary weren't good enough!!! had they had the platform to show their talents, maybe they would !

  • yup so true :)

I love the suprems version sounds so country and chilly

  • i cant find the country western album nowhere its killing me

  • so do I !

I saw it a 5 times in american ebay

but ALWAYS the mono version of it

the stereo version is sooooooooooo fu***** rare

I hope I'll get it once for cheap money =D

  • i finally saw it on my ebay but it probably is only 1 available it is 88 bucks

  • yes they are really rare and people who know florence ballard mostly know how rare those singles are

so I had soooo much luck not to only get the normal single because I got an original dj promo single

the quality is not thaaat good because abc cut the rills to deep so a record overtune. I first thought it was dirty but it wasn't I cleaned it and I saw it was the records itself which sounds a bit noise.

whatever I love the single and play it up and down the whole day =D

  • thats awesome:)

  • i freaking love this song

  • so do I

I also love the miracles version but the supremes is great =D

  • I love their country western albulm.Mary and Flo showed that they ahd the chops to deliver along with Diana. The supremes where one of the most versatile groups around who could do a little of everything.I also liked Diana on my hheart Cant Take It No More.Just like Envouge no one can argue that all four girls had what it takes to deliver.Back then I dont think the music industry knew a group could have more than one lead singer. Thank god motown had the Mavelettes with Wanda and Gladys.

  • yes sadly there was only one lead singer ...

  • I love the song and Diana voice which was quite unique. The only person if nutured would be Wanda Rodgers of the marvelettes .She had as good of a distinct and sexy voice as Ms Ross.Would have been nice to hear Flo or mary on this one.Their country albulm had great leads by both

  • yup I think flo would have done a good lead like mary also but flo is really clear in the backing

yup I LOVE the country western and pop album

some people say it was one of the most worst album BUT I love it

    it's a great album it's only a shame I doesn't have the stereo version

  • mi Y mi vatos rola he dnt like it but i love it

  • lol what?

  • lol

  • sry I didn't get it xD

  • me neither i dont know what he is saying

  • whatever xD

  • lol

  • Holy Cow...the melody of the song...Hummmmm You really got a hold on me...Yeah! (I love you Wil)

  • lol hope you enjoyed

I love the a bit of liverpool album only this beatley like mix is a bit strange with the voices right and the instruments left

whatever so you can hear flo and mary clearer =D

    thanks you're welcome =)

  • i dont like it but i love it.

    lol

i love it madly . its really got a hold on me.

    i love this song

  • thanks for commenting joe

    so do I

  • I think Flo or Mary would have been better

with this song. Mary and Flo had a more soulfull sound . Diana is okay.

  • yes but flo and mary are rocking the back =D exspecially flo when she goes YOU REALLY GOT A HOLD ON ME =D

  • get over it. diane was the lead singer of the supremes. quit dreaming about flo and mary as lead singer for the supremes. they werent good enough duhhh

  • What is with this attitude about get over it. I have a right to state my opinion like everyone else. I like Diana but not this song I did not care to much about her singing it. All I am saying is that I think Flo or Mary could have been a better choice.

Diane was not the singer in the world back in the 60's but she had a unique sounding voice that was different from other female singer and Flo along with Mary help to creat a out sound that set them apart from all other girl groups.

  • Everybody does not like the same sound in there singing choices. Its silly to keep trying to push your views on others. Luther Vandross had a premier VOICE but if a person like hearing Johnny Cash you can't change their mind and taste. Diana Ross was and is a wonderful singer with an amazing sound and style ...if you like Mary and Flo best go buy their records and play them over and over and quit trying to rewrite history Diana Ross does not care about you!

  • FOOL I know everyone does have same opinion as you or me. However Fool I did not say I didn't like Diana singing There were certain song I I beleive Mary or Flo could sung a little different them Diana. Let be real about this their only a few artists that could cover another song do it well or bettter. Certain songs that the supremes sang by other artis I like that Diana did were good and them their were other songs Diana with the supreme that were not that great..

  • redwalls76 You are a nasty faggot son of a bitch -- you are a lifestyle loser ...YOU CAN'T TELL ME WHAT TO LIKE!

  • What is even more sadder is No one disputed Poor Paul Williams who WAS the Original Lead singer for the Tempts get pushed to the rear in favor of David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks. No one disputed Rosland Asford who was the Soprano in the Vandellas and had a great standout voice Yet Martha Reeves Lead ALL songs yet none of you even whispered. QUIT Puttin Flo OUt unless you Put all those others..Paul, Rosland Asford , and other Back ups who had ONE LEAD and they could sing lead yet u bash Diane.

  • i dont kno why yall hatin on diane. but some one Must Really think she is great to shell out 250.000lbs (650.000 in american dollars)for 40mins, to hear some one who Cant sing or has no talent and 64+yrs old. Clearly Diana's was force to be reckon with back then and this is One song she matches smokey note for note. as for Mary and Flo in the back, well what esle can I say but they were/are the SUPREMES. Diane was /IS Diana Ross. then and Now. she, Aretha, Tina ,Patti Dionne, r LEGENDS.

  • Love you Flo

  • she ruuuuulled this song =D

  • its you really not you've but diana was jammin as well diana would later sing more soulfully but this in the beginning so she wasn't allowed just listen to her later songs with the group "reflections".

  • diana had a pop voice not a soulful voice

she was able to sing songs with much feelings in the lyrics and she was able to sing clear and nice but not soulful

I like her but the truth is that she had a pop voice

  • Agreed. This song doesn't really suit her voice. The best version of this song is the Temptations' IMO. Eddie Kendricks basically had Smokey's voice, but with a more consistent tone.

  • I like the supremes version but it's not the best

it's good that flo is so dominant in the backing without it it would maybe sound more bad

  • LOL! Flo was jammin on this entire album!! LOL! This is exactly why she had to stand 20 Thousand Feet away from the microphone! Her voice is soooo damn powerful!!! Poor Mary...She must've been temporarily deaf after some of these recording sessions!!

Sang it, Flo!!! Flo's voice is like an instrument, itself! I bet the funk brothers used her on some of their instrumentals!

    LOL!

    GO FLO!!!

  • lol yup she really RUUULED the songs =D

it's a bit sad that mary is so quiet on some songs anyway

    I love the album

    thanks for commenting rodney =D

  • cock in my pocket hulla!

  • lol ehm xD are you okay?

  • Please help me recall the name of song which she sings,"Flo, she don't know cuz the boy she loves is a Romeo and i listened once to my friend's advice and it's not gonna happen twice/"

  • it was their 4th # 1 song "back in my arms again" =)

    I love it =)

  • Dianas voice gives me shivers. This is a stunning version :D

  • I think she did a good job on this song =)

  • Love this song! Where did you find it! i've been looking for it!!

  • hey it's included on the "A Bit Of Liverpool" album

if you want it I can send it you give me your e-mail adress and I'll send it you tomorrow

    and have MERRY CHRISTMAS

    you're welcome

  • love this song and really like diana ross and the supremes thanks

  • my pleasure =D

  • OOO Diana you better coo that now - oo so sweet and controlled.

Mary and Flo being working it out. My FLO YOU BETTER SAAAANG that backing now =P

  • Lol they did it great

Flo is really clear in the backing but mary aso is on a few parts

Diana did a great lead but florence would have to it better anyway =D

  • well my video of this song will be better!!! men... duh love them madly even when treatd badly geeeze
