The body of water passing underneath is Botany Bay. Noise abatement means that most 747's arriving in Sydney must approach from the south east over the Tasman Sea and then over Botany Bay.
actually, the rudder controls the direction of the nose when flying (eg. landing during crosswinds). to steer the aircraft on the ground the pilots use the rudder pedals with the brake on what side the want to turn, so if they want to turn onto a taxiway to their left they would push left of the rudder pedal and if its a tightish turn they will also press the left brake slightly.
Ok. First off the usual VREF (Landing Reference) speed of a B747-400 is around 150KIAS depending on weight which translates to over 200Km per/h depending on winds. He wasnt coming in fast at all. Its definetly not Singapore, as YSSY's tower is unique and in obvious positioning. And finally yes, all Qantas B747-400's are equipped with On-Demand IFE systems with individual monitors per seat in all classes. Seating arrangment is 3-4-3.
hiii!! i'm a spanish girl and in one month i'm travelling to sydney in this plane, so i would like to know if the seats have tv or not(i'm in the tourist class), and what is the plane like inside, becouse i'm travelling myself during 30h (spain - australia) and i'll really get bored
I'm not 100% sure....but I'm pretty positive it's like that because all their flights come in early in the morning so the crew can have their rest periods...and then they all leave at night. LAX and SFO are the only 2 airports in the US that Qantas flies into.

yes they do, theres also a rudderish thing on the tail ( i forget what its called) that steers the plane while its on the ground...
ansettaddict123 3 years ago
its called a rudder and they dont usually use that they use the tiller
gallardoking 3 years ago
no the rudder is only for the air. They actually have a steering wheel to their side that moves the wheel on the ground.
thefsxflyer 3 years ago
Rudder are also used for Takeoff and Landing, you can see in some videos !!!

Another quality landing by a QF 744. Qantas, still the world's greatest airline, IMO. Thanks to our excellent pilots, as well.
