Oil imports are a large part of our annual trade deficit, takes billions per year out of the American economy which weakens the dollar. I believe that it is simple math...you can't continually send out large amounts more than you take in. Why do you believe increasing fuel economy is harmful?
I live in the Pac NW and work at 4 refineries as a contractor. These refineries are pouring BILLIONS in these plants to increase production. Follow the money, if oil was on its way out these companies would not spend a cent... They know the truth and are showing by how they spend their money... Fact is the world still has plenty oil...

A solution would be to use Swap Battery Electric cars. Adding more renewable energy every year, as more people adopt EVs. It is cheaper to build renewable power plants and an EV infrastructure than to purchase oil each year. It will cost about the same amount of each year of imported oil to build the EV infrastructure and renewable power. (the renewable power and EV infrastructure will last us forever(as long as we maintain it)).

Small cars today arent ratle traps. Here is what you do, go out and test drive an Audi a4 or a Saab 93 turbo. what you find out is they are safer, faster, better. You would also see that you could hit a brick wall with a Volvo and survive. Now, knowone is forceing anyone to buy a small car, you will allways beable to buy a truck. I live in the Pac NW and work at 4 refineries as a contractor. These refineries are pouring BILLIONS in these plants to increase production. I don't have a plan. Right now, as far as I'm concerned, the only option for the short term is to use less oil. I'm also for drilling, nuclear, and any alternatives that could conceivably give us our balls back! A solution would be to use Swap Battery Electric cars. Adding more renewable energy every year, as more people adopt EVs. It is cheaper to build renewable power plants and an EV infrastructure than to purchase oil each year. It will cost about the same amount of each year of imported oil to build the EV infrastructure and renewable power. (the renewable power and EV infrastructure will last us forever(as long as we maintain it)).

You do know Venezuela stopped selling oil to the US aboout a 2 years ago. The US does allow Venezuela to refineries in the US as well as sell gas. the US allows it just for the taxs. but they don't sell it.

Small cars today arent ratle traps. Here is what you do, go out and test drive an Audi a4 or a Saab 93 turbo. what you find out is they are safer, faster, better. You would also see that you could hit a brick wall with a Volvo and survive. Now, knowone is forceing anyone to buy a small car, you will allways beable to buy a truck. I am a truck owner myself, I would be happier than a pig in shit if it got 35 mpg.
