@spscotto It does, the advantages are that it's more comfortable and much faster/less effort on the flat and downhill. It's a little bit slower on uphills, and it's not so good at ducking and diving through standing traffic. Perfect for my long flattish commute that's largely against rush hour.
Don't you fear that some car may rip your hand off when you put it out like this? I as a cyclist would be afraid. That's why I lift my hand up so that no one can hit it.
@CouriersRUs I did have a camera looking back, but it ran out of memory a mile or so further back. You can see this view on the red light jumping cyclist video that was uploaded on the same day. I have a bigger memory card for that camera now.
I get treated really well by most of the traffic. It's only a very tiny minority of drivers who misbehave on the roads. Most of those then see the camera on my helmet and then behave also. This guy must have failed to observe it?
@gfh61 3, if you look carefully. The 3rd is still a jumped red light, technically, although he does stop, he goes into the green cycle box. I don't really care about that one, but it does illustrate his contempt for red lights rather nicely, IMO.
@CyclingMikey I have seen many of your videos and makes me want to get a camera because some of things I see in Bristol would rival some of this. Just one thing stopping in the cycling box is not actually wrong , if they can't stop by the first line they are still meant to stop for the second line. I can't tell from the video if he could have stopped before but the stopping in the box is not especially wrong just depends why he has stopped in it. Doesn't really matter like you say.
@ALROCO12345 Yes, that's almost right - you can only cross the first stop line on orange, and be within the box if the light turns red before you cross the second line. The light was red before he crossed the first stop line so an absolute red light jump. Not one I'd normally bother with though, I only commented as it shows his general disrespect for red lights with the other two reds he ran.
@CyclingMikey ok, like i said i couldn't make it out from the video. Keep up the good work but obviously i hope you stay safe. Have you ever got hit or properly cut up that have knocked you of or is it mainly just idiots trying to overtake when its clearly pointless because I get a lot of that. Only once I have got cut up and I took evasive action into a dustbin. LOL Oh and i had to hit a Land Rover as he nearly pushed me into another car but he soon got back into his lane. He just didn't see me
@ALROCO12345 Thanks, no crashes or collisions yet. Actually, that's not quite true, I've come off once or twice on my ownsome. There's one video up somewhere in Jan/Feb I think, on Catford gyratory.
I was curious, does the bike you use have any benefits as opposed to using a normal, upright bicycle?

@CyclingMikey thanks for the quick response, it was really on my mind for a long time lol

@spscotto Have you seen "A pointless overtake" video from my channel? That should show the aerodynamic advantage nicely.

That's cool. Can you mount the camera on the front looking back? Would love to see whats happening behind you and how the traffic treats you.

@AnotherCopierOfM13 You mean the driver? ;) No one made him drive through those lights, he did it all on his own, I think.

Well i don't know if you can count but ...... How many red lights???

lol it wasn't even close to amber. I'll admit, at times I've jumped an amber, but never that close and I always watch out for cyclists.
mkkreuk 1 year ago
@mkkreuk Yeah, blatant reds in each case, IMO.
CyclingMikey 1 year ago
Always a bit worrying if you are the first to stop at amber/red lights and you hear someone from behind speeding up to 'beat them'.

@drsquirrel0 LOL! Technically that was a jumped red light too - he goes across the first stop light and into the cycle box.
CyclingMikey 1 year ago
2 seconds after they turned red. Worse was the way he cut across lanes.
