  • We don't need the tree to make the paper. We need to all grow Hemp and leave the tree's alone. Thank You for this video from this Master

  • Beautiful!

  • Buddhists, it is commonly assumed, do not believe in a Creator. As far as I am aware, the Buddha himself didn't actually deny the existence of God, he just didn't think it was very helpful to ask the question. But is there anything in Buddhism comparable to God?

  • @bayreuth79 It is true that the concept of God exists in Buddhism. In fact, one time, the Buddha went to a Brahma Realm and had a conversation with a God. There was even a psychic battle between them. If you would like to know more about this, I invite you to read the Brahma-nimantanika Sutta: The Brahma Invitation. It is the Sutta #49 of the Majjhima Nikaya. If you prefer to listen to the audio (with commentary/explanation) instead, then google "The Invitation of a Brahma by Ajahn Brahm."

  • If anyone wants to know the true meaning of Emptiness please email me at tommy.yong@yahoo.com and I will sent you an ebook free.

Buddha says that we are the bonding between Body, Consciousness, Perception, Feelings and Mental Formation. These are the existence of an "I", "Self". So we need to achieve NO I or NO SELF , the atainment of Emptiness, Nirvana.

It's explain in detail in the ebook.

  • @TommyYongThiamHuat Please take care in how you describe anatta to non-Buddhists, or they could easily misunderstand. We do not need to *achieve* not-self...we need to *realize* the self-less nature of the five khandhas / skandhas...I hope you can see that people new to Buddhism might get scared away from how you put it...anyway, I know you mean well, so sorry if I seem critical...namaste :)

  • "The true miracle is not walking on water or walking in air, but simply walking on this earth."

    — Thich Nhat Hanh

  • The master idea of emptiness is very much the same as Lao Tzi's idea of "wu".

  • Wonderful explanation thank you very much

  • Wonderful explanation thank you very much

  • body and mind drop off.....

  • great lesson. thank you. "The cloud and the paper inter-are." Beautiful; true.

  • that took a while to fall into place for me but very nice explanation, very clear. He is wonderfull

  • The Paper could be anything...but, I think he is using the paper as a metaphor for You. All the World's a Stage...

  • The innovation, cleverness and brilliance of a talk like this can only be described as Art.

  • Thanx ☆For Your Loving❤Presence ★☆★

  • How beautiful is this... so so wonderful! On the surface as words it can be taken and appreciated and then further as an invitaion it points so softly and welcomingly. So kind of you to share this. Much love.

  • In the beginning it appears-as emptiness- that is only appearance as' you have always been filled by the ego. Really, you are feeling the absence of the ego; that’s why you feel empty. First the ego disappears-but the feeling that the ego is no more creates the feeling of emptiness- It's just absence-something was there, and now isn't. The ego has gone, but the absence of the ego is felt. First the ego will disappear, and then feeling the absence of it - Only then will you be really empty.

  • Meaby by interbeing, he means co-existence?

  • Very nice indeed

  • "this shit of paper" ahahah

  • why do the students laugh when he says the paper and the cloud interare?

  • I think they're just delighted at a fresh concept and a fresh use of words "Inter-are."

  • Wonderfilled teaching and wonderfilled video, thanks.

  • thanks so much for this video I think is one of the clearest explanation of the buddhism ive ever heard /read

  • why they laugh when he says interare?

  • "to be is to interbe" Thich Nhat Hanh

  • I am so blessed to be able to see the cloud :)

    Peace

  • it has become a very negative word - empty

how many times you've heard ''what an empty person'' spoken in a very negative manner...

  • @DarthHuru Many translated words are given sharp or abrasive apparel. We may benefit in asking whether this is the intention behind the original teachings and watching carefully who is applying the points or spines. 'Extinguishment of desire', 'ego death' and 'suffering' are other such badly translated words.

  • I love thiss :]

  • brings a new light to the meaning of emptiness. A very calming feeling I'd say.

  • u need to be saved this life is so empty and meaningless

  • What in the world is that creature? It looks like some kind of Californian giant moth, but it's daylight and the critter never flaps its wings. A remarkable bit of videography. I'm a little skeptical of Thich Nhat Hanh's efforts to comfort us in the face of death, but this show of concentration sort of legitimizes his discourse in my view.

  • genius...

  • anybody that is making effort to honesty look within themself is an intelligent person

  • @sophijean

i was merely commenting on the sentiment behind his way of looking at the world. . but yes, you are right. . anyone who is making any kind of effort is intelligent. . .

  • @sophijean you should make a distinction between intelligence and wisdom

  • @sophijean

A effort means you trying to reach somewhere or get something, but how can you make an effort to be yourself? Isnt it that you make effort to separate from the source, no effort is needed to let go lol!

    Love and light!

  • Exquisite. Something that should be shown to teens.

  • So then, non-self is a innacurate translation on part of the english language. What non-self actually means, is that nothing is independant. All things that exist only exist because they are made up of, and dependant upon, other things. Hence no-self, is no independant self, not oblivion. Boy, I wish more westerners could grasp that. More people need to understand this so we in the west will stop seeing Buddhism as Nihilistic and depressing. Id say its the single biggest turn-off we face here.

  • exactly

  • Many people are also very attached to the idea of a soul. The concept of the immortal soul, so central to western mythology is incompatible with emptiness.

  • Interesting.. Maybe deep breathing meditation may provide an answer. When all senses are 'switched' off during meditation we may see emptiness.

  • @barbarbarbar2 Senses are not switched off during meditation. Rather, becoming more aware of immediate reality and sensations in the mind and body - one observes that there is no such thing as an independently existing object or thing (e.g. the ego, it is only an idea).

  • @Haliotro Exactly!!!

  • @fragrantrain86 That is correct. Buddho-gymnasts turn it instead into a self-destructive, ego-effacing torment, exaggerating toward repulsiveness in part so as to minimize who might find value in it, and in part to seem extreme and skillful. However, the principle you are referring to is 'no soul', 'anatta', 'anatman'.

  • Wow! This is soooo beautiful! Nature! I love this! I love him!!

  • Wonderful.

So often I hear Emptiness used as an excuse to turn Buddhism into a fancy form of Atheism and dismiss all of it's mystical claims.

I feel this cleared things up on the subject.

  • Thanks for this video... today I realized the true meaning of 'Emptiness' ..this concept has eluded me for many years...now my mind is clear and calm

  • Beautiful

  • I am so grateful to see another teaching by the Master. Yet another opportunity to water the seeds of interbeing-interconnectedness. Thay explains it so simply and with a gentleness that has you smiling as you understand.

The visuals are perfect, selected with care enhancing the words, deepening the insight.

You are providing a gift for everyone and wanted to thank you so much...Victoria
