Why offer it to Clinton? Simple. Obama still has trouble wooing many working class and Latino voters, and nominating someone who overwhelming had their support could go a long way in November.
Personally, I had trouble picking one when it came time to vote, though I did settle on Obama. The idea of the 'dream ticket' makes sense to me and I hope it becomes a reality.

And frankly for Obama it could be the best turn of events. The less support that HRC has in the party, the less concessions he has to make, the less he has to rely on her, the more HRC will be ignored, the better for Obama.
