Is it possible to re-upload this video with some captions explaining the different stocks you're using? As a future cinematographer, It'd be very educational to compare. Thanks, and great job!
Hey Max, compliments for your reel. Cinematography is good, but here the real question is how did you encode this video to obtain such a good quality on you tube??? Did you bypass the youtube encoder uploading a flv with an higher bitrate as few people have done? Otherwise what kind of file did you prepare for the upload on youtube? Cheers
Beautiful work. This would make a good promotion for 16mm film - for those considering trying out the medium. Just shows what good lenses and a creative mind can do. Inspirational.
well i have been working with digital and film for the past 7 years, and Digital is my main medium right now (Canon Xl2) but i want to work with Film as my main medium and i am trying to find a cheap way in.
I am trying hard to find a way to shoot Super 16 as my main medium, can you tell me how much the AAton cam u have is, and how much it is to shoot on film and transfer it to digital for editing????
You don't even need an Aaton if you're just starting out. Look at Eclairs on ebay. Just make sure you get quality lenses - older Zeiss super speeds are sharp and inexpensive.
@maxkovalsky DONT DO IT! Buy a nice used Arri SR, they're cheap as hell now. We made the mistake of buying not one, but TWO S16 Eclair ACL's. What happened afterwords is more grief then can be summed up in 500 characters. A dozen trips to an Eclair tech in New York and another in LA, and then many thousands of dollars later at Visual Products...before we had production-ready cameras. Had we known then, what we know now, the tiny bit more for the SR would ended up WAY cheaper. Avoid Eclair!

Why shooting S16 or Ultra 16 when you can shoot 2 perf. Techniscope film for the same price as 16mm? And you get the 35mm picture quality!

Finally, the first 16mm short I've seen on YT that actually has good cinematography.

Excellent, what model aaton? lenses? I like it a lot.

Aaton LTR 54. I mostly used Zeiss primes and a Canon for the zooms. Some softer shots were filmed with an older Angenieux.
