There is freeware solution to make portable applications (instead of expensive ThinApp) - Enigma Virtual Box. It supports both x86 and x64, moreover, it emulates all the files/registry in memory, and does not create temporary files like Cameyo

I also see the one listed "official" portable AV, plus some talk of a portable malwarebytes - spybotDS - somethingelse, triple combo available.

Any thoughts on this? What's a good strategy?

If people want to do these i recomend a program called mojopac which basically turns your flash drive or whatever into a virtual machine. So, as long as you have administrative privilages, you can run it and your programs

I don't think so. Otherwise it wouldn't work. A portable drive doesn't have a registry. If it does it would apply it to any computer connected.

When start pc rapidly press F8 key over & over, so opens in safe mode. Then go to Start-Help & Support-Pick a Task- System Restore. Pick a time in past to restore PC to. EZ! If that doesn't work, u can always use yur XP disk to either Repair OR reformat to like when pc was new. Files & programs u had will be in a folder called My Backup in C:, but they will NOT be installed anymore. Keep backups! Eusing Free Reg Cleaner will backup registry in"file"-use that to be able to use all in "My Backup"!
