A lot of people say that Gate of Thunder is one of the best shooters they've ever played, if not THE best. I wonder if it's really as good as advertised? What makes it superior to shooters such as, say, Lords of Thunder? I really want to know, so I can experience its greatness, too. It seems to me that one of the more weaker tracks in the game was used here.
It looks like a Thunder Force game so it has to be really good. I am definitely looking forward to buying this when I get the Super CD-ROM drive in the future.
I know Thunder Force was a good game series, too, but I think it's starting to come into the light. Its great controls sticked with smooth framerate and music make it one of the best shooters out there.
Looks like the usual Gradius/Defender (R-Type, Life Force, et cetera) clone to me. Nothing that spectacular.
The best shooters I played would be along the line of the aforementioned, Galactix, Galga, Tyrian of course, Raptor, OverKill and the little known yet nicely done Tubular Worlds.
Gate of Thunder's music is ostensibly the most amazing thing of this game.
You're very right about that, but I have learned a bit that it also has pushed the TurboGrafx-16/TurboDuo hardware to the edge, as well, since there is multiple sprite scrolling backgrounds (the system is capable of one layer of parallax scrolling naturally), and many smaller objects at once on the screen. Either way, I'm hoping to try this out once I get the chance.
No. The PC Engine Duo/TurboDuo unit does not need a Super CD-ROM card to play any CD-based game (as the compatablity with them is already built-in). With a TurboGrafx-16 or PC Engine, however, a system card 3.0 would be required.
Good! That should be able to play all CD-ROM games without any system cards, as well as Japanese HuCard games. Try looking in the "PC Engine/SuperGrafx Sales & Trades" section of the forums on the PCEngineFX website; many of the sellers there are trustworthy and fair to my knowledge.
@Foxstab Nay, it means it's better than most shooters out there. What makes this game spectacular is the soundtrack (obviously), and it's fair and addicting game play. Try it sometimes, don't judge a book by it's cover.
@123doomdoom As said in my first post in reply to this upload: I've played this type of game a great many times, on what appear to be far superior executions, already.
You beat this game 30 times? Great. Well, I erode Tyrian so much that it had skid marks with over 100 plays and almost as many victorious finishing. So....what? I don't play it anymore. I play other things now.

@OceanBlueKirby Does this need the arcade duo card?

@OceanBlueKirby Thanks!
I have been waiting for sign up activation for over a week now. :(
Might have to go ebay.

You're welcome. Oh, that's a blower. Well, good luck finding a PC Engine Duo RX on there that you can afford (and won't be scammed at, either).

@Foxstab I beat this game 30 times...does this say anything?

@123doomdoom Mostly that you had patience to trudge through it and a lot of spare time.

@OceanBlueKirby It's the music, balanced game play, and great presentation.

Thanks, but I've pretty much already been informed of those aspects.
