Did you use nLite or anything? Is it slipstreamed? That usually throws this error. There is an easier way to do it if your not specifically trying to create a grub menu entry. Look on my channel. Its all automated.

i got this error: "This doesn't seem to be a valid source, could not find DOSNET.INF RETRY to select a valid source or CANCEL to return to the main menu." I try to install Vista, my usb is the same as yours (8gb) and in the RMPrepUSB I chose FAT32 and in the boot options I selected WinPE/Vista v2 bootable. Really don't know the reason of the error, do you know what is happening? Your help will be appreciated. Thank You.

there are better free ways to automate everything. This is kind of an old way to do it but shows how to add Windows installations if your building a multiboot. That is where you build more than one installation option on a thumbdrive. The prime expert boot costs money. I know there is freeware out there.

@gloobarr what you are trying to say is that you want to boot up from a mobile phone. It's impossible to boot from a mobile phone! If you have a SD adapter for the microSD card and a SD card reader, it is possible to boot from a SD card, if your computer's motherboard is capable to boot from a SD card. If you have a netbook with an integrated SD card reader like HP Mini or Asus EEE Pc or something else, there is a high probability that it can boot from a SD card.

Nothing is working for me. I have tried about 3 guides, how to install Xp from usb drive. When i boot the usb, it let me choose between a weird dos program, and to install windows xp. When I choose install windows XP, i just comes to DOS..

I have tried fat32 and ntfs. I can not remeber, but one time I came to windows installation, but it couldn't find my harddrive.

Rule #1 in troubleshooting ANYTHING computer related - Google it FIRST!!! It's way more than likely you're just experiencing an issue that some other poor sap had to figure out how to fix. It might take a few hours, but most likely, you'll find an answer or at least a direction to keep looking in, if not a complete solution.

But it sounds to me like you simply downloaded a bad copy of the install files. Just download it again and see if it'll install with a new copy. Oh, and update your OS 1st!

Its the XP disk. If your computer didnt come with one its on a partition on your hard drive. You would be better off reading your manual to see the F-Key that allows you to use this partition.

I am using vista and I downloaded and installed winsetup from usb as you said. But in the middle it says that it has not been totally installed due to files\qemu\fmod.dll.

Another reason this error maybe created is because your XP source is edited by vlite or nlite.

Try selecting the c:\temp\winxp path or c:\temp\winxp\i386. Im guessing it wants the i386 directory though so leave off the i386 and just give it the path c:\temp\winxp

DOSNET.inf was included in service pack 1 of Windows XP. A simple google search of the file will take you to many available sites that will allows you to download it.

No there is no loopback. In order to do this you would need to look into GRUB2 (not grub 1 grub legacy it has no loopback option) I have tried to install with an ISO and get BSOD. You may try if you want to. Chainloading the ISO does not seem to work.

Thanks for this. I used a 16 Lenovo usb and formatted fat32. The text mode part of the install was very slow, over and hour close to 2. Would choosing ntfs increase this?
