Please Help.I never oiled my guitar before so I don't know much about these things.I have Maple Neck but Rosewood fretboard. Can I use Lemon Oil? If not which Oil should I buy?
@caitisnotonfire Does your gutiar have a Floyd-Rose? If so I'd recommend going to a local guitarshop and watch them set up a guitar with tremolo (they do it at new shipments), and most are very willing to let you watch and learn.
If it's a hardtail guitar like my Epiphone, its even easier than stringing an acoustic, but the strings needs time to stretch(which you can do yourself). There's youtube videos for all that stuff :)
i have some questions is it ok to use a cloth instead of a toothbrush cuz if i get a hard toothbrush wuld it scratch it? also shuld you let the oil soak in or is that why you rub it in? also one more srry for all the questions this is actually my first time doing this hope my guitars will be ok which my oldest one has been but also what is the name of the song it sounds kinda like buckethead?
@SanjeevGeorgeV i use very fine steel wool on my fretboard and polish my fret with it for years and it has done no harm what so ever... i use steelwool on my frets and they shine like a mirror, it also cleans all the dirt outta my fretboard then i use System65 lemmon oil and clean then string up... WORKS PERFECT. Keep Strummin
@SanjeevGeorgeV u use the finest grid steel wool possible only to polish off the tarnish on the metal frets.do so by taping the wood leaving only the metal fret wire visible.then rub with the steel wool
@SanjeevGeorgeV but like i said.finest grid possible and only for the fret wire itself.and dont forget to tape off the wood around the fret.i fukked up one of my old guitars by not taping.but if u use the finest grid of the wool ur frets will shine like a mirror!
Hey, AFAIK you should not remove all of your strings at once as the strings help the neck to stay in an optimal position. What I do (also when changing strings) is to remove strings one by one, that I remove one string, clean it up or clean the fretboard beneath it or change the string, put it back on the guitar, move on to the next string etc.
@Englepest Got it. One more thing to say, if your guitar has a fixed bridge, that might also cancel out the scenario that I described (not sure if your guitar has one).
I use white vinegar to clean my frets, and after I dry them; I use baby oil to polish the guitar fret. Then I wait for an hour or two for the oil to dry. I do this every two weeks. Is this safe? I've been doing this for a month.
I have a question and I hope someone can answer as Fast as they can or help me I have my ESP kh-ouija guitar but I have play a Lot with it and the neck is really dirty and is getting white dots and I dont like It the thing is That is a maple neck I I've heard that using that lemon oil thing is bad for maple and I don't want to mess up my neck does anyone know Anything to clean my guitar neck

Do you HAVE to remove the strings to clean the frets?
caitisnotonfire 1 week ago
@caitisnotonfire No, but what harm does a set of fresh strings do anyway?
Englepest 1 week ago

I never considered using a toothbrush when cleaning my fret board but I will next time. Thanks for the tip

FYI. For maple (fretboards) an oil which is used for billiards cues has been recommended.
Greetz (from Germany, which might explain my bad English :o)

Is it ok to use steel wool to clean the fretboard?
SanjeevGeorgeV 3 months ago
@SanjeevGeorgeV I dont think I would use it on a electric guitar-neck, but I've seen it's quite popular on acoustics.

@Englepest How bout olive oil?
SanjeevGeorgeV 2 months ago
@SanjeevGeorgeV Yes, it's recommended by Gibson etc. Use 0000 Gauge steel wool only.

Twice per year??? I do this about twice a month! Will it mess up my guitar???
megaluisdeth 3 months ago
@megaluisdeth If you oil it to much it will swell up the wood and push the frets up which is not good to say the least.
azfryguy 3 months ago
@megaluisdeth No, it shouldn't mess up the guitar. If anything, keeping the guitar and neck clean on a monthly basis helps the guitar out.

TheArtsaves 5 months ago
@TheArtsaves Yes,that might be so. If the neck suddenly looses all the string-tension at once, the statement would be an important fact,
But since you gradually loosen up the tension, it's nothing to worry about.

@jlfernandez28 I dont know man. Myself I wouldnt use anything thats not ment to use on the guitar.
If I were you I'd pick up a guitarcleaning-set off ebay or something. Rather pay extra for the right products, than ruining the guitar :)

@maniactre My best suggestion is to try some mineral fret-oil, such as "Fret Doctor".
Although I've never used anything else since I got no maplenecks.
