And there was no real need for that constantly given that there wasn't suppose to be anything on the tracks. Even if he did though, noway to stop the train. It takes 2 miles for a train to stop.

@chukmaty Actually they did. They were on the decline during the 50s and finally by 1960 the majority of steam locomotives were replaced by diesel engines. However there are still some in operation on historic routes. I totally agree this movie is iconic and this scene is pretty tense.

Movie speaks to innocence and innocence lost. Different time but the message is universal. Crazy to think that this movie came from the same novella as Shawshank and the highly underrated Apt Pupil. Try to explain how King has influenced pop culture and I get many open mouths and blank stares. As Jon Fogerety once said "someday you'll understand".
