The mirror is self reflection, he tries to hide his face behind make-up but it doesn't work. The chains around his neck are reminiscent of a collar, showing he cannot escape his appearance.
While the man can come and go as he pleases, the monster cannot.
Washing his hands is symbolic that the man is clean, while the monster is not.
He realizes we dispose of waste in the washroom, hence he will never be able to leave.
