They even blew up a M67 under dragonskin, and nothing penetrated the carrier! On top of that it made that m67 explosion look like 5 M80s compared to what they look like uncompressed!

Why is everyone talking about the dragon skin. They trashed that idea, it sucks. And whats all this talk about the AK-47. It might be powerful but its not going to penetrate the armor either. Only the .22LR will penetrate body armor. No bullet will penetrate a functional plate.
@NLStacks2k10 If .22lr was the only one that could they would not make AP 5.56mm rounds or bigger. A .22lr is going to do significantly worse than even the 7.62x39mm which is worse than the M855.

If so the 7.62x39mm used in the AKs would do even worse since the bullet(as in without the cartridge) is basically the same size and weight as the 7.62 NATO round but is slower. Which would make it do even worse against armor.

Also the M855 was made to penetrate a steel helmet out to 600m. As is it can penetrate atleast 3mm of steel out to 600m. The AP 7.62x39mm round can penetrate 6mm of a tougher steel at 100m. It would get worse as it slowed down however. Not saying AP 7.62x39mm would be worse but the normal 7.62x39mm round would be worse than either at 100m or 600m.
if you where wearing soft body armor on top of that there wouldn't of even of been a bulge on the back from the 556 and the 9 wouldn't of even touched the plate
survive an m4 from 25 meters without the kevlar to help slow the round down, smaller surface area faster moving round than the 7.62... the vest works.

strange, you tell us what you saw on the history channel, but truth is, that was when it was at its premium, upright and rigid and it is true that at that position it is better than interceptor, but to an extent, if it is hit below a ceramic plate or were two cross then its likely to fail, and in combat a soldier is crouched and moving the armor plated around and while stretched, dragon skin fails miserably, interceptor is great and does a good job at what its supposed to

The M16 round, known at the M855 is small caliber as people know. It is made to penetrate armor vests of the old Soviet Union and steel helmets. It should go through.
An AK47 7.62 X 39 isn't made to penetrate anything.

i understand this, and i've done the same tests myself with my navy background so im fully aware of the 7.62's capability. but you must understand what it was designed for. it was ment to be a bullet and nothing more, the designers had no intent of it being an Armor penetrator, just for it to be a big round. were as the 5.56 is designed to be super sonic, and very very accurate, were as the 7.62 lacks. but yes, you are correct, it does (7.62) pack a hell of a punch

Is that rated as a level 3 plate in conjunction with 3a soft armor? I have level 4 SAPIs and I wonder what they would stop without soft armor...

I can't believe they use this junk when there is much better like Dragon Skin which can take 100 rounds of AK 7.62mm without back face deformation or penetration. Most often the enemy will get more than a few shots at you.

strange, you tell us what you saw on the history channel, but truth is, that was when it was at its premium, upright and rigid and it is true that at that position it is better than interceptor, but to an extent, if it is hit below a ceramic plate or were two cross then its likely to fail, and in combat a soldier is crouched and moving the armor plated around and while stretched, dragon skin fails miserably, interceptor is great and does a good job at what its supposed to

The M16 round, known at the M855 is small caliber as people know. It is made to penetrate armor vests of the old Soviet Union and steel helmets. It should go through.
An AK47 7.62 X 39 isn't made to penetrate anything.

no not really, yet another myth, ive yet to see a 7.62x39 go thru more than 5 inches of wood, it is made to be hard hitting, not penetrating, like a hammer but no nail, were as the 5.56 is the nail but with a slightly smaller hammer

Look for AK vs. M16 penetration tests. AK will penetrate better no matter what the material is.

i understand this, and i've done the same tests myself with my navy background so im fully aware of the 7.62's capability. but you must understand what it was designed for. it was ment to be a bullet and nothing more, the designers had no intent of it being an Armor penetrator, just for it to be a big round. were as the 5.56 is designed to be super sonic, and very very accurate, were as the 7.62 lacks. but yes, you are correct, it does (7.62) pack a hell of a punch

Yes, the 5.56 does penetrate armor better than it penetrates most other materials.
But ofcourse you can get 7.62s that are designed for specific tasks, such as armor piercing & incindiary.
I don't know what you mean with 5.56 being supersonic, because most rifle rounds are, including 7.62

7.62 is usually quoted at 715m/s(2,346 ft/s) - 800m/s(2,625 ft/s), for the 5.56 905 m/s(2,970 ft/s) - 940 m/s(3,100 ft/s).
Muzzle energies favor the 7.62 @ 2,000 J, against the 5.56's 1,790 J.
Overall the area of operation, the type of target, and the distance make the most difference in the comparison.

N.I.J doesn't let there plates go over 44mm if it does then the plate isn't N.I.J so what every ya are wearing it better not break your rib or cause injury because then for you are not wearing a PLATE you are wearing JUNK

how would you know? did you serve a tour in iraq like them and experience all the shit? just like an ied hitting a hummer...the armor stops the shrapnel like the plate stops the bullet, but the shockwave still can have major effects.

we used an AK47 on the old plates we carried back in 2003-4 and with 6 shots, the plate expanded to about two inches thich but still NO penitration.

You said the plate expanded 2 inches...to the side or did it expand straight (towards the body)?
If it did expand 2 inches towards the body, would that cause internal bleeding or any other injuries?
