  • Only G-D can give such a gift.

  • as a nerd, this makes my heart melt! such a cute little girl.

  • Little, marvellous Goddess...never stop studying and improving!

  • We find the next Cziffra...

  • The "8 year old" sign has nothing to do there. 8 year old kids shouldnt play such a demanding repertoire, it sounds disgusting.

  • @BlazeKenny Of course because it was only some time after learning the piece. Insulting performances is not acceptable under any circumstances. Just Fuck off!!! (or you may have not even heard her latest performance of it)

  • You are great umi! keep always that beatifull smile god bless you with! I hope someday you can play here in argentina! and dont let bad energy from people make you sad. You are great and you will always be . best wishes for you!

  • Finally an American podigy

  • Mi chiedo come mai ci siano 36 "non mi piace". Complimenti a Umi Garrett!

  • Gifted! Wiz kid.. i wish i could play this and i have been playing for yrs.

  • this is the problem when kids try and play pieces their hands just aren't ready for...poorly controlled and many mistakes..i'm sorry to be a wet blanket about these things but i'm tired of kids doing this, whether it's being pushed into it, or thinking they can do these pieces justice...if you're going to attempt these things, at least do it in the privacy of your own home..lol

  • @ykrahs666 Uh...have you seen her most recent performance of it? Seriously...give her a break. She was EIGHT here. Could you do better at that age?

  • oh. my. god. *loud thumping noise* ive fallen and i cant get up.

  • Strangely the left hand mistake at 1:23 seems to fit perfectly in with the piece!

Someone who didn't know the score to this piece probably wouldn't perceive it as a mistake!

  • @Kalen1457 there's so many mistakes it's hard to tell which one ur talkin about..lol

  • w☺w,,,y☺u and EMILY BEAR sh☺uld meet...you tw☺ are just s☺☺☺☺ g☺☺☺☺d at the piano...

  • Great....but that's in exchange for a normal childhood... There's something not right about this...

  • @MrSimeon76 Uh..normal childhood as in playing video games till her brain falls out? I play the piano and I absolutely love it! I've been playing since i was seven and I'm currently 15. :)

  • @EmilyBearfan good for you! :) but as long as you enjoy it. My point was that many gifted children are forced to fulfil their parents ambitions to numb the disappointment of their own failures in life. Also, I'd never suggest the better alternative is playing video games till your brains fall out! lol... Everything in moderation ;)

  • Whooooow!

  • amazing...

    simply phenomenon!

  • My god in your hands this difficult piece is simply magic:)

  • @Ellinidara hai ragione....ma God...così si scrive....nun me ce manna'! ciao

  • @Francesco1Gabriele Certo, hai ragione ,è un semplice errore di battitura. Figurati.

P.S. Sii buono,io non capisco niente di dialetto;( parlami in italiano, almeno me la cavo:) Grazie.

  • @Ellinidara SARO' BUONO....nun me ce manna'....IN ROMANESCO....GERGO TRASTEVERINO...SIGNIFICA: non mi ci mandare....E LO SAI DOVE!

OK, VEDREMO IL DA FARSI...MA NON STANOTTE.

    BUONA NOTTE.

  • I quit!

  • Unbelievable!!!

  • so freakin cool

  • What the hell did I just witness? (And who are the 34 dislikes and why don't they remove the garlic from their souls?)

  • this is it, im not playing anymore

  • At 8 she is into the music like a virtuoso. The most amazing part of watching prodigies isn't just their ability to hit the proper notes. It's the mental capabilities to memorize and play under pressure. I think I'll just have to subscribe to her channel. She's too good.

She obviously has had additional masterclasses from some excellent pianists. The top pianists really do give additional help to the exceptional prodigies.

Lang Lang was working with Anna Larsen and George Li at a young age.

  • a wonderchild! bravo bravo!!! I only hope for Umi that aside from the piano, she also gets to play with friends because she is only a kid!

  • Thank you so much for posting on Youtube. The world is a better place with this girl !

  • This is awesome. I wonder what Liszt would have said, if he had witnessed this. One can't help feeling mediocre in many ways when confronted with that little girls enormous talent.

  • amazing, enough said.

  • I just watched your interview on TV in a local TV show (tu mañana) that means "your morning". I hope you upload a video from your concert here in Panama. I'm sure it was excellent.

  • Brava! very impressive! Congratulations.

  • Bravo!!!

  • Flight of the Bumblebee is just chromatic scales and a bit of arpeggios (which I'm getting tired of seeing so many kids play) but Liszt, Debussy and Mendelsohn are much, much MUCH harder to play and Umi Garret pulled all of it off beautifully! And for those tiny hands I say she's going way fast to catch up with the tempo.

  • I'm sure she has been blessed by God. Her talent is amazing. She'll have a piano recital in Panama on August 19th. I hope she likes my country. God bless her and her parents.

  • @Roptimusprime Thank you! I look forward to playing there :)

  • @Roptimusprime I am sure she worked hard by herself to get to this level ....

  • The utmost of humanity ..... mind boggling .... so many "dislikes" ?? Jealousy ?? Envy?? I can't imagine an argument that allows for a dis.

  • 2nd Rachmaninov!

  • she feels it too, that's rare for somebody her age. speechless

  • Epic.

  • Young lady, your playing is fabulous. What virtuosity!

  • 28 dislikes? what? why? how?

  • WOW You played that?I guessed melodies, but I could guess only left hand in beggining

  • cziffra e' meglio??? baghaghaghaghagha non c'e' bisogno di dirlo ma lei ha ancora otto anni con altro ottocento di pratica potra' arrivare a cziffra

  • Amazing & Unbelievable & So Cute!!!

    Wawoo!!

  • One 4year boy played Liszt etude No.1 {Pruledio}TWICE!!

  • Good,but G.Cziffra is better.

  • why didn't i pick up the piano when i was a kid... sigh...

  • @Y3n26 Its never too late

  • Good grief! At 8? The definitive version is also here on youTube by Cziffra.

  • Amazing !!!

    God bless her.

  • WONDERFUL!

  • @wow4411 Thank you! ^^

  • I think I commented on another one of Umi's videos saying that I have never seen a child express music as beautifully as she does. I stand corrected, I have never seen anyone express music the way she does. Keep at it kiddo!

  • Well played Umi. You are a true musician and have a great future,

  • Such a difficult piece of music, played wonderfully by such a young child, by heart. Absolutely wonderful performance. And I love to see that she enjoys playing the piano. Extraordinary.

  • simply amazing !

  • Splendid little one!

  • I think I heard a little applaud at the end.

  • unbelieveable

  • Comment removed

  • Stupid that the sustain pedal of the piano makes noise. If it was a practise piano, no problem, but not in a concert! This child is making music so well, and then you hear that annoying sound. Very irritating.

  • In addition to my last comment, this is fricken excellent. And a Liszt piece especially.

  • that smile in the end....

    wow!

if i had kids, i would be really glad to see them so keen on music!

    Continue the hard work, Umi

  • Incredible! who could play that good at this age? Truly amazing, to me, a child prodigy

  • She is great!!

  • who could dislike this????

    you play AMAZINGLY well!!!!!!!

  • WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • She plays very good but comparing her to Richter is not fair!

  • That is the most amazing thing i have ever seen.

  • this is one of my favories from you Umi and i still watch this like all the time :))))

    ♥frankee♥

  • this is one of my favorites from you Umi i still watch this all the time:))))))

    ♥frankee♥

  • WHAT....THE...FUCK....HOW?!!?

  • HOLY HANNAH =O|

  • my jaw just dropped. an 8-year-old playing liszt...amazing...good job Umi! keep playing music!

seriously, this girl seems to enjoy music more than a lot of people i know

  • very good she goes to my school i love her

  • oh my goaat you're so amazing! but don't you feel pain in your hands when you play this piece? having little hands like yours and play such a big repertoir should not be easy..

  • real talent, very talented little lady bravoo.

  • Wow. That was.....wow.

  • Reminds me structurally of La Campanella. Great job, I enjoyed it a lot!

    Thomas

  • Amazing Umi ;)

  • much to cute and yes, bravo!

  • from yuja to umi...

  • i feel pathetic

  • @laughlovelaura don't worry.. I'm with you =[

  • It took me over 4 months to get this, and still it wasn't as good! wow!

  • @MollytheWhite Well hey, at least you can play this... I can't! :P

  • lol my cousin in 7 and he can play this

  • I learn this when I was 17, it's farking difficult! and she plays like a little mozart minuet =.="

  • I am floored. This girl has such emotion at such an early age that I cannot believe, never mind the incredible technique she has.... incredible.

  • Is she Japanese ??? she's so good

  • Is she Japanese ??? she's so gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood!

  • @haneem95 Thank you very much!! I'm half Japanese! :)

  • How long did it take you to learn this piece?

  • Incredible!

  • Wow ok i am retarded... The public is too amased for applause lol

  • WOW I CANT EVEN PLAY LIKE THAT :O SHE IS ON FIRE!

  • Brilliant.

  • incredible! She looks as though she's actually enjoying herself which is what matters :)

  • OMG! She`s so young, and she`s playing THIS!!

  • es maravillosa

  • Unbelievable !!!

  • she's so fast ! very good job, impressive ! :O

  • wonderful, wonderful! I really look forward to her progress when she gets older.

  • How much her parents didn't let her go out and play with friends while she had to play piano!??????????

  • She must have had an extraordinary teacher.

  • :o A M A Z I N G :o

  • So inspirational! Now I want to play this. I'm not nearly as good as you are, dear Umi, and I'm almost twice as old as you are!

  • a little over half my age, and way more than twice as talented

  • the best! g-d bless her! true talent

  • per ora solo un fenomeno circense

  • Please God tell me that whoever teaches this girl has shown her videos of Cziffra!!! She could be the next Yuja Wang! Get her into the Liszt Academy! SOMETHING!

  • O______________________O WOAH!

  • If I didn't know there are prodigy kids out there, I'd easily say FAKE ;) ... But here we are .. the next Angela Hewitt!

  • Brava Umi....in bocca al lupo!!!

  • She is so cute!! And she has in-depth understanding of the piece. Amazing!! BTW I also work in a restaurant called Umi.... I love both Umi!! ;-)

  • better than i'll ever be.

  • wow WOW WOW WOW WOW. A genius... nothing less.

  • Holy... wow this is simply amazing.

  • Incredible style without any tension and so relaxed it is an amazing performance, her enjoyment obvious. thanks

  • I love the fact that kids will be inspired to pick up an instrument watching this than cigarette or you know what...

  • Not KIDS, PARENTS!

  • @OCUBOX what century do you live in? for a start, there's as many kids playing music as ever. secondly, smoking cigarettes or weed (because you were so afraid to say it) and picking up and instrument arent mutually exclusive, just look at any really influential jazz musician over the past 60 years, they were nearly all cannabis smokers. people as ignorant and naive as you really piss me off

  • WOW WOW WOW!

  • It's always amazing to see how a well-trained youngster can excel. Of course a natural aptitude or talent goes a long way too... along with some really hard work.

Congratulations. Probably only another 4 or 5 years before she'll reach teacher status. Wonderful.

  • AMAZING!!!! really impressive how she is INSIDE the piece, not only perfectly playing by a technical point of view

  • This is ridiculous, well done attempting this at such a young age, but allowing someone so young to play such a mentally difficult piece, I mean I have a philosophy that before you play something you should never think of the technical difficulty of the piece as it limits you straight away I personally think its counterproductive and that she should build up her repertoire starting from simpler pieces, because when she comes back to this when she is older she will have trouble with it...

  • @725piano: I manage UMI and let me say that she has performed with major symphony orchestras, been on tour in China, appeared on national television, and just released her first commercial CD. Not too bad for someone who isn't even 10. I know very few adult artists that have the kind of insight to their repertoire that UMI has with hers. She knows her stuff. She is an amazing child.

  • @abmsghost There is a pianist in my country, Mijail Tumanov, who played Rachmaninov's Third Piano Concerto at age 17. He was accepted into Julliard University and Berkley School of Music. It's nice to know Costa Rica is exporting something other than bananas and coffee.

  • what do you want to play when you´re 18?

this is just AMAZING! Keep it up liitle girl!

  • Liszt's finger dexterity has reincarnated in her!

  • @pigberto all I think @Mr98guiliano was trying to say is that statistically, most of these absolutely amazing virtuosos tend to be chinese. Even if she is half Japanese, it's a difference. From the way it looked to me, nothing more was implied.

  • Ez nem igaz! Amit ez a kislány a zongorán müvel az valódi csoda, hihetetlen.Ezt csak ámulattal lehet hallgatni. Igazi művész!!!!

  • so what's next 3Thd Rachmaninov maybe at the age of 11?Note to the teacher:you nare a criminal and egomaniac.

  • IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!!!!

  • Amazing! Brava! You are a genius!

  • That is amazing Umi! Continue doing what you're doing right there! And remember, if you come a cross a piece that you can't play proficiently yet (which I think is kinda impossible for someone like you ;) Just keep trying and you'll get over the piece sooner than you can say....

  • brings tears to my eyes!

  • AMAZING... to play that good this girl had to adapt all the gestures of an adult.? well she is perfect though.

  • I bet they were all applauding without touching their hands.

  • amazing

  • Not just about the incredible technique or skill you notice here at this young age.. but the love & passion in her playing that flow naturally. Bravo Umi!!

  • Even watching the video, it's hard to believe that little girl is playing that. She's amazing!

  • wonderful. Another Aimi?

  • hahaha..nice kid

  • for the girl: u are so good i thought that was adult-played.

for the parents: now ur made us feel a bit hummiliated with this awesome girl, don't make her think playing good it's the only good stuff of music.

  • i love how she's almost bouncing off of the chair with every note- i mean.. how much more excited can an 8 year old be about her music? BRAVO!!!

  • love her smile at the end! so sweet!!

  • oh, finally not a boring asian! you have energy and much feeling while playing! youre great! :D

  • It's amazing just how many talented/gifted crystal/indigo/rainbow (whatever label you want to use) children there are in the world

today...it just blows my mind. I read somewhere that there are a 'queue

of souls' out there that are just waiting to come and incarnate on this

planet at this time 'cause it's such a specia...l time to be here, in human

history, the souls can learn such a lot! (I love that thought) We

should be very proud to be here at this time : )) xxx

  • How can this be happening ? :-D I want to learn this to know what does it mean to be able to play it...

  • I love this, what an admirable beauty :)

  • There is something natural about this performance and I trully love it :)

  • OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • really??????? what a genius girl!

  • just one question: what sort of food and vitamins do you take?! i want to take them too! gosh! too good!

  • This is not even related with being genius or clever anyhow, but I do incredibly admit and give huge applause to her big and great efforts into it. Still musically immature but as I said, very great work, superb techniques and good tolerance to achieve this level.

  • wow!!!! This is really fantastic.

  • she's fantastic,and she's not chinese!!!!!

  • @Mr98giuliano She's half Japanese though. What's your point?

  • i love how when she gets all into it she makes the cutest faces!

  • Oh, my GOD. :O The spirit she has while playing! Agh, much more passion, and I'd burst! BRAVO

  • Absolument incroyable! Il faut le dire, même si les mots ne peuvent rester que dans l'euphémisme!

  • Come rovinare l'infanzia..........

  • Just wanted to say she is one of the happiest children I have ever met, she loves what she does and lately I have been wondering, why would a kid playing foot ball 3 hours a day, or a kid playing videogames all day would be happier and have a better childhood than a kid that just enjoys music, just wondering...

  • @ExcelLied It just depends on your passion. Some people are inclined to play football and thus excel at it. Some people are more into music. But I do agree with you on the video games part. It's not really a talent that can be showcased haha!
