  • go suck your dad dick

  • Cool vid but I wonder what they did in the days before CNC machining?

  • @GeneralG1810 Manually Cam Grinding machines

  • cool

  • Fascinating!

I milled some camshafts for a Saab B engine for Folkrace (Scandinavian budget rallycross) in an 4 axis bedmill, with a Sandvik 390 mill 32mm diametre. With Surfcam for programming.

The surfaces where then grinded with a grinding stone in the spindle.

Now, i did not know anything about ramps in the profile, so i did not add any, but the camshafts worked really well. But i am not shore about life expectancy due to no ramps.

  • @Stingray2112 the cam itself wont ware as easy and with a cast iron you can but high lbs springs

  • Made in the USA!

  • @sprydo7 but the metal is made in china..lol..

  • why does the video get fucked up near the end? ...... good explanation though ..

  • This is pretty cool. I always thought these things were cast.

  • we run comp cams in our dirt cars

  • It's disappointing to see that people are just using software to design and NOT their own knowledge and/or experience. Everything is done for them! How easy is that...

  • @urbex2007 bisimoto does his own cams too...

he was also given his knowledge... so in a way its not him althouth is he himself that "invents" them

  • Making the cam is easy, it's figuring out the right profile you need. I went threw hundreds till I got the right one.

  • One wonders if a higher lift cam causes more wear in the valve guide.

  • @seapeddler me too, i guess that's why they also make valve trane components.

  • '

what kind of metal use on a cam

  • @bestamerica Aftermarket roller cams are generally machined from steel bar stock. Flat tappet cams are made from hardened cast iron.

  • SpeedwayMotorsInc,

    '

    okay thank explain about metal

  • @SpeedwayMotorsInc

    wich alloy?

  • @wa1523 For answers to specific questions about camshaft metallurgy & materials, we suggest speaking directly with Comp Cams by calling them at 1-800-999-0853.

  • @SpeedwayMotorsInc Why cast iron, is it softer so it has less wear on the lifters?

  • @Stingray2112 Cast iron cams are more economical to produce since the rough shape of the lobes can be made when the cam is cast, resulting in less machining for the final product. Also, the cast iron material is a better match to the cast iron bodies of flat tappet lifters resulting in a more even wear pattern between the similar materials.

  • @SpeedwayMotorsInc-Are flat tappet cams made from cast iron due to its nature to absorb oil? Just wondering, Thanks!

  • @77OliverPuller Although cast iron is more oil absorbent than billet steel, flat tappet cams are made from cast iron primarily because the rough shape of the lobes can be made when the cam is cast, resulting in less machining for the final product. Also, the cast iron material is a better match to the cast iron bodies of flat tappet lifters resulting in a more even wear pattern between the similar materials.

  • @SpeedwayMotorsInc Thank You for the information! I have a 1951 Oliver 77 that I am putting a motor from a later Oliver which has a 310ci. and uses a flat tappet cam. Was looking at possibly have a cam made instead of having the stock reground. Thanks!

  • @77OliverPuller No problem at all, you're very welcome. Good luck on your project!

  • I bought a comp cam for my 87 gn, I don't regret using comp cam shaft at all.

  • Something that looks so simple is not. No wonder they are expensive. I always thought they were money hungry.

  • what a crazy amount of responsibility
