@hcvang I would love to see episodes VII-IX but I don't think it will happen. With all the expanded universe out there, I don't think Lucas would want to mess with that cannon, because I think his version of the events that take place after Return of the Jedi would be considerably different than all the EU books.

@hcvang I'm not talking about the merchandise. I'm talking about the Star Wars Novels that came out after Return of the Jedi Like the Timothy Zahn series which pretty much stared the "after Jedi expanded universe". Lucasflims and Lucas himself has approved these novels so they become official plots in the Star Wars universe. I was saying Lucas won't make more stories with the Original trilogy characters because his version would be extremely different from all the Novels.

@hcvang You're not getting me. The Expanded universe has been excepted as part of official Star Wars history. Hey if Lucas wants to make more movies I'm all for it, however don't expect the new films to have anything to do with Luke, Han, Leia, or any other characters in the Original Trilogy. Lucas has even stated that if he were to do more films they would have all new story lines and have nothing to do with the Skywalkers.

Putting the existance of idiotic novels and comic books above the possibility of new films with the great cast of the original trilogy is just plain wrooooong...

and if he's smart, he'll change his mind and do the sequel trilogy and ignore the novels, like a real artist

@hcvang I think in the beginning he didn't know the novels would become that huge but I totally agree with you, while the novels are quite good, the Star Wars franchise has become just a money machine. All these Star Wars themed products have become ridiculous. Star Wars used to be just about A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. I liked the Prequels but they kinda put a weak link in the Star Wars chain.

@nnnnnnnp I dont have any problem with star wars being a money machine - i'm happy for him to have created this empire from nothing, that's amazing. but i want more films... and if he says "nah, we'd have to write movies that fit in with the comics and novels" then he can just go fuck himself - that's got nothing to do with star wars. there are 6 movies, 2 ewok movies, and some animated series - that's the stuff that means something, is important. comics and novels dont matter =(

@nnnnnnnp Ancillary stuff really shouldnt impact the core of the francise, the heart and soul of it, the films. There are 8 films, 4 animated television series, and that is what matters - that's all that should be taken into account when considering new films. They can make a million novels, and if they are good and sell great, that's wonderful - more star wars - but making them canon is dumb. Just make more movies - sit back and let another direct 'em, and go "approved", "not approved" on stuff

I saw the re-releases twelve years ago and the only Star Wars I have not seen is ROTJ, so I hope that movie gets re-released so I could see it in theatres for the first time.

The trilogy was supposed to be re-released into theaters in 3D in 2007 starting with the first film. But that never happened but they still want to do it.
