This song is an example of why the the diminished chord is the best chord in the universe. Listen to the chord on 'town' and 'sea'; the most 'poignant' (deeply affecting and touching) of the chords; its such a sublime chord that God only had to make three of them LOL (ask any guitarist; every 4th fret is the same chord in a different transposition and with a different name, but the same chord in effect)
Absolutely love this...my dad sang it to me when I was little and now sings it to my daughter when she's fussy. Definitely brings back a lot of wonderful memories. Gotta love Danny Kaye
God I love Danny Kaye and this song!! My Mum and Dad used to play it on their record player - you know the old ones made of wood that were a full size cabinet. Brings back such wonderful memories *sigh* THANK YOU :')
My father had the same passion and passed it on to me. The tunes of a wooden radio sound better than coming from the new artificial plastic boxes. Father loved playing the gramophone and was fascinated from reel-to-reel tape recorder machines, the ones that were available before the cassette deck hit the market. I still have these old records in my collection and play them every now and then.
I so very much agree with you. It´s really a pity. Have you seen Chitti, chitti, bang, bang, the musical with the magic flying car? I love that one too.
Yes Lucky I have seen those two! I also loved Danny as Walter Mitty. When I think of Danny and all of the movies he was in I smile ear to ear. What a talent! So missed!!!!! Thanks again for posting this and loving Danny, too!!!!!!!!! Wonderful, Wonderful Danny Kaye!
I like Danny Kaye, too. He´s one of my favourites musical stars. I like him especailly in Hans Christian Anderson but he is also brillant in the Court Jester (Der Hofnarr). Have you seen both movies?
Neither an artist nor a professional dancer but my hubby and I have been in hobby standard ballroom dancing for quite a while now and tunes of a quick Viennese Waltz or a slow English Waltz of three-for-time rhythms are simply our favourites.
Would some kind soul please tell me where I can watch the entire movie on the Internet? Thanks and good wishes from Singapore.

anche a me piaceva tanto Danny Kay. Averlo rivisto in un film alla TV mi ha commosso.

Danny Kaye was such a part of my childhood. I fear wonderful talents like him are lost on the ADD, Transformer, Playstation generation of today.

I remember this song when I was a kid. What a fabulous song, even though he pronounces Copenhagen wrongly.

I wonder if Barack Obama is singing this

You´re welcome Maureen. I like Danny Kaye a lot especially in Hans Christian Anderson. But I love musicals and like dancing myself anyway.
