I wonder how the world would have turned out had the Greek empire survived. Had the schools of philosophy and science never been closed. Had the Dark Age never occurred. I can't help but think it would have been a better world. Imagine being 2,000 years more scientifically advanced than we are now. I think the destruction of the Alexandrian library was one of the worst things that ever happened to humanity.
